AVOID AT ALL COSTS! This hotel is dodgy!!
First looks, looks OK, but seemed like an upmarket motel rather than a hotel.. upon entering, the reception smelt of mold and sweat, it didn't feel clean, and I was met with a long queue..
Finally got seen to, the woman wouldn't even smile, very short tempered, and appeared also the man on reception to the side of her (who was later seen yelling at customers to "shut up"). This is where it got dodgy..
They first wanted to see an American identity card and refused all other identification.. how can a someone on vacation provide this!!! They reluctantly accepted my British ID
Then they refused to accept any debit card.. they wanted us to walk several blocks away (note I had a disabilty lanyard on due to my mobility) to an atm as the one they had in reception was switched off.
After all this nonsense, they tried claiming the payment for the room hadn't gone through.. I showed them proof.. checked with the bank, who confirmed payment. Rang the 3rd party who I booked with, and they also confirmed..
After showing multiple confirmations, and them still demanding even more money, the booking was cancelled.. leaving me making (much better) alternatives..
The man behind the desk was witnessed by several shouting at customers to shut up as he was clearly annoyed by all this.. not professional at all. I was also personally discriminated, and I found all the staff to be rude.
I reckon they tried to take advantage... and from seeing other reviews, I think we had a lucky escape. If the reception smelt bad, goodness knows what the rooms were going to be like.. They are very discriminative and I recommend avoiding this hotel... it's not disabled friendly either.
Staff refused to give me their name when i asked to make a complaint. The customer service isn't even 1 star.. I've stayed in many hotels and Collins Hotel is the worst hotel I've ever...
Read moreThis hotel is a good option for visiting Miami on a budget.||The hotel has a nice-sized, gated car park. It costs $25/night, but there aren't many other parking options nearby, and it's a cheaper rate than hotels in South Beach.||We checked in, paid for the parking, and went to our room.||Our room was on the first floor, overlooking the pool. There was a short flight of stairs up with no lift.||The room was large and clean with two queen beds. There was a good sized fridge. There was a television, but the picture was very low quality. The air con was decent. The bathroom was a little small, and the shower was prone to flooding the floor, which was a bit annoying.||The hotel has no breakfast, but there are a number of restaurants and a Walgreens and a Publix within 5 mins walk.||The hotel has a pool, and was just a short walk from the beach. North Beach is much cooler in temperature than South Beach, and we found the beach really windy, but we still enjoyed a couple of hours there.||This is a good option if you want to visit South Beach but cannot afford a hotel down there, as it is well-served by both public buses and the free tourist trolley. Catch the bus from the southbound bus stop just behind the hotel. We generally used the city buses as they are much more frequent and take you all the way to downtown without changing. They also run until the early hours of the morning. Just be mindful that the traffic can be pretty horrific in Miami. Unfortunately, our visit coincided with Art Basel which we didn't know about, which massively impacted the traffic all across the city. It took two hours on a Friday night to get from the hotel to the HRC in Miami, but I believe this is atypical.||We were reasonably happy...
