Prior to departing to the airport we picked up our bags from the reception, we were planning on getting an uber and had checked the price, which was $25. Just in passing my partner asked the lady at the front desk if it would perhaps be cheaper to get a yellow cab and stated the price of the uber. The lady said uber was fine but she could arrange a car that would take us to the airport for just $15! We gladly accepted her suggestion and she called someone who, from the way she spoke on the phone, appeared to be a friend. After 10 minutes another lady came in, greeted the lady at reception like an old friend and stated she would take us to the airport. Just before the airport the woman pulled to the side of the highway and onto the hard shoulder and said she would need paid before taking us into the airport. She then said she would check her "meter app" before proceeding to just open her calculator on her phone and type "75" before saying the cost of the 20 minute taxi would be $75!!!! We stated that this is not the quote that we were given and that we did not have $75, we only had $40 but that the woman at the hotel who had arranged it had quoted $15. The driver stated that she worked for a company (not that there were any logos or taxi registrations visible either inside or outside the car) and that they set the price, not the hotel. Except she had clearly just made up the price on the spot!! We stated we understood however we physically did not have that money and were clearly visibly shocked at the price as it was more than quadruple what we were told at the hotel and triple the uber price. The driver then proceeded to effectively hold us hostage at the side of the highway until a police car came and cleared the hard shoulder. We discussed with the driver that she could drop us off at the airport and we could give her the $40 we had on our person (we are not from America so our phone do not work so could not bank transfer or even call the hotel) or if she could drop us back at the hotel we would arrange alternative transportation.||She eventually agreed to drop us off at the airport in exchange for the $40, however to our horror when she got to the departures she just drove straight through and back on to the highway and towards the city! She stated she had changed her mind and that she would drop us back at the hotel to book an uber but that we still had to pay her for her gas!! ||We had a flight to catch and she expected us to give her the last of our money for an hour of wasted time and to end up back where we started. She then proceeded to "call the hotel" however a male answered (it was a woman that was on desk and that had arranged the ride), and although I am not fluent in Spanish she then told him to basically "pretend he worked at henrosa hotel". I told her to take us back to the hotel and we would discuss with the reception in person, as it was the woman at reception who had arranged this whole scam|| Instead she agreed to let us out and abandoned us at a petrol station miles away from the airport and still took all our money!! Like I said, our phones do not work in America so we had to trek for blocks to find WiFi in order to arrange for an uber which we then still had to pay for! So an hour and a half later and $60 down we finally made it to the airport.||||This was clearly a scam set up between the lady on reception and her friend. That will teach us to not just get an uber, won't be making that mistake again!!||||An other wise lovely stay completely soiled my greedy cheats!!||||Horrific experience and all orchestrated by your...

Read moreGreat experience from start to finish! My VIP status was recognized immediately upon check in where I received a complimentary bottle of wine. The hotel also provides complimentary water, coffee and tea in the lobby. No balconies but there is a front porch area out front with tables and chairs overlooking Collins Ave. Room is very clean and modern, not many unnecessary decorations or fixtures which I like. There’s a mini fridge (no microwave) and a safe to keep your belongings. There’s a large flat screen tv hung on the wall, and they use shutter blinds instead of curtains, and wood flooring to help minimize the collection of dust, making the room feel even more clean. The bathroom was spacious and has a walk in shower with a glass wall, no shower curtain!
The hotel is a block from the beach, right on Ocean Drive. They provide you with 2 complimentary beach loungers and an umbrella for a $20 surcharge. Breakfast is complimentary, but be advised that it’s at the Cavalier Hotel which is about a block and a half down Ocean Drive. The options are yogurt bowl, bacon and eggs, or pancakes. Nothing to rave about but it’s a decent breakfast to hold you over until lunch.
The hotel is close to all the South Beach action, but far enough that you’re not in the crowd. It’s on the upper end of South Beach, closer to Mid Beach which tends to be a little more laid back.
One thing I should mention is the walls seem a little thin. I couldn’t hear my neighbors but I did hear everything out in the halls. My room was near the ice maker and I could hear every single drop of ice being dispensed. Not sure what that’s about but it it is an older structure as most boutique hotels in South Beach.
Overall I would recommend this hotel. I’m already considering staying here when I come back to...
