Wildly disappointing. After traveling 10 hours to get there, we had all of our luggage for the family loaded up on one of their carts and I was pushing the cart following one of the front desk ladies around before we got to our room. She might have been new but did not know the layout of the property. Frustrating but not a big deal. We were there all of Spring Break and were told valet parking was 40 dollars per night (by comparison 18 per night at Marriott Fairfield in Key West). I used to valet park in Las Vegas where it was done for free...annoying but not a deal breaker. As we are getting ready for bed my wife notices orange Cheetos stain on the white comforter. I called the front desk which is useless. I don’t know why they have phones in the rooms. After calling 3 times with no answer, I decided to respond to the text they sent welcoming us to the property. This is your life line to the property. Text everything! Anyway, I explained what we saw and that I would like new bedding, they sent housekeeping to change out the bedding. Once she got there she could not grasp why we wanted all of the bedding changed out since only the comforter was soiled. I had to explain to her that since housekeeping missed a big orange stain, I was not convince they did not miss anything else. She ended up changing all of the bedding and left. Okay at this point we were really tired and ready for bed. The first 3 nights we were there our neighbors enjoyed marijuana so much we left the fan in the bathroom running constantly to fight the smell. Following that we had a different couple smoking by the pool. Now the hotel is advertised as a no smoking property, but that is not enforced at all. Midway through our stay we needed new linens and more towels and washcloths, while we were gone from the room, I texted Gabriel at the front desk to bring more and let him know we were not in the room so they could just set the stuff down on the sofa and leave. When we arrived some four hours later we noticed our door was open about 6 inches. I thought no biggie, we caught housekeeping in the room. They were not there, they just did not shut the door. We looked frantically for about 30 minutes to make sure the iPad, and laptops were still in the room, etc. and nothing was stolen from the room since it was not secured. All was good. At this point I am starting to question my hotel choice. Our room faced the pool on the ground floor. The pool on the roof closes but not this one. Loud parties lasted well into 2-3am on 4 of the 8 nights we were there. If you are looking for a quiet place to rest and recover from your days of exploring and vacationing, this is not your best option. Our last night there I want to check and make sure what was needed for a smooth check out given previous experience. The lady at the front desk showed me a bill for over 3,000 when we were quoted 2500 when we confirmed the reservation. I noticed that valet parking was 52.00 a night not the 40 I was quoted by valet when we checked in. I asked her about this and she said that was a different company, not the hotel. 25.00 for 1 margarita and 6.25 for a single can of coke. Those were our only incidentals on the bill... Still didn’t add up to a difference of 500 dollars. Oh and a 30 dollars per day resort fee. Still did not make up the difference, If you want the party atmosphere of South Beach and a great location this is a great choice, but there are many. If you want a well run, clean place to chill and rest after a day of running around sight seeing, you might take this all into consideration before booking a reservation. In the end, my experience of staying in a boutique hotel did not match the value for the price. I will not be staying here again. I travel extensively every year in many different hotels. This is the the worst experience I have had in...
Read moreWe were a group of 4 women who recently stayed for a long weekend at the Kimpton Angler's in Miami Beach in what was supposed to be a poolside bungalow. We had the following issues with our stay: I reserved a poolside bungalow and what we got was a “spa villa”; besides the fact that this was not what we asked for and we were not notified of the reservation change, this also has a different price per night than what we were charged. We wanted to be poolside and to have a rooftop terrace; that is why I chose a pool side bungalow I was told the suite was newly renovated. The paint was peeling on the door hinges and off the spiral staircase, and there were crusted dirt marks all over the floors, and stains on the couches. The electrical outlet in the upstairs bathroom did not work, nor did the telephone and light by the bed. The fan in the bathroom upstairs was constantly running with no way to turn it off (challenges for sleeping!) The room was dirty when we went in. Besides the crusted dirt splotches and stains there was a man-size footprint on the back of the bathroom door, hair in the shower, and cobwebs hanging down from the vent on the second floor bathroom. We asked to have the room cleaned again at the front desk and called two separate times to have it done and no one ever came. I was told the pull out couch was queen sized and comfortable. It was a double and NOT comfortable. Every spring could be felt in the mattress. When I asked if a mattress topper or extra blankets could be put down to try to make it more comfortable, the front house manager told me “yes of course” and then it never happened I had four names on the reservation since the first day I booked it. We only had enough bath and beach towels for two people. We requested more for the next day and they did not bring them. On Sunday, Housekeeping only came at 530pm and only made up the bed downstairs, not upstairs. We broke a glass and requested assistance to clean it up. No one came. The broken glass remained in the room until the next day. We found a drunk man in the hot tub when we came home from dinner; we called and requested security to patrol past the room a couple times in the night (we were all women staying together) and the person we called at the front desk told us he would leave a note for his manager in the morning. We weren’t really given any orientation. We had to call to ask how to connect to wifi. We registered for an orange theory class but then were not told where to go in advance of showing up to try to go to the hotel gym (which apparently does not exist). We didn’t know whether the towels would be changed every day or only if we left them on the floor. The front of house staff were all extremely friendly and were quick to offer their help, however whenever we actually needed it, they did not deliver. It was almost as if they were trained to appease the guests but not actually address or handle any of their concerns.
The Kimpton is a well-reputed hotel chain. We have stayed at the Kimpton in several locations across Cayman and the US and they have been incredible both in quality in rooms and quality of service. This really seemed not on par and will impact our choice of hotel stays...

The good: convenient location. 4-5pm wine they offer in the lobby is decent. Complimentary bike; they also provide beach chair, bag and suntan lotion – thanks – didn’t use.
The long table at their ground floor restaurant is beautiful; the front desk in the small reception hall is hand carved out of marble, it’s one-of-a-kind table.
Rooftop and the pool (my best guess is about 20 yards in length) is great. Heated pool opens during daylight hours (sunrise to sunset). During our stay, the air temp is about 50°-72°; the water I’d guess is below 80°, which I enjoyed it tremendously.
The little balcony over looking Washington Avenue is good place to have a nightcap and morning coffee. They provide coffee and tea in the morning in the lobby – termed it as breakfast (helllooooo!!), in lieu of coffee maker in the room.
The bad: asked for an extra blanket that never came. I’d rather not to have turn the heat up. They called the following morning at 7:38am, and said will bring it up but never did.
Telephone pad & mobile phone charging banks are dusty & dirty; and the USB ports are “unstable” (?) my phone keeps beeping, as if I just plug it in. Bathroom sink bowl is cracked. One of the facet is dirty. The silicone is moldy. Lotion pump and hand soap are not working well: either doesn’t work; occasionally when the stars all aligned, it came out in force, splatters all over. Lounge chair paddings are disgusting on the rooftop.
Valet parking is $45 per night with unlimited in and out privilege, with their app. But the guy also serves as bellhop. Saturday is a trying day. We waited for 20 minutes in the afternoon to leave. Returning at 11:30pm, we waited for another 20 minutes, with a few non hotel guests who have gone to the rooftop party. The staff at the front desk said he has three valets. As I was riding the elevator up, another staff asked how’s everything, and said he’s four valets working at the moment. Oh well.
The following day, I went to the rooftop for my daily swim, cigarette butts are around the pool and papers are all over in the bathroom. I’d guess the cleaners have not arrived. One of the days, we returned to the room around 4pm, our room has not yet cleaned. Not that big of deal but it seems they’re short on staff.
Thinking back, we passed by the hotel on our way to Smith & Wollensky, so I thought to go in, to see if they could check us in. It was 2:20 and knowing the check in is 4pm. Nope, they didn't have a room ready, but could keep my carry on. However, with my platinum elite, I should be in by 3pm. Anyway, in my little memory, this is the first hotel that didn't have a room to accommodate early arrival.
"Oh, can I use the pool, while waiting for the room?" Although I was torn between a late lunch by the water and a swimming.
"No."
So, they decided for me -:) So much for being their platinum...
