My husband and I booked a room on Hotwire for this location in Murfreesboro based on the price and reviews. We were traveling from Florida to Missouri. We arrived and my husband and I were concerned about the exterior looks of your hotel with all the folks loitering at their doors. I went to check in and the attendant was very kind. However, a roach crawled across the desk while checking in. The should have been my next clue! My husband and I were very apprehensive about us staying at this hotel. We both work in the law enforcement field and very familiar with drug use and theft. I took the keys to room 162 and told my husband we should go check out our room first. We had our boys with us and we noticed as we were collecting everything from our vehicle, multiple people come to their doors and watched us certainly sizing us up. Think people who just rolled out a drunken, drug induced scooper without shirts and pants dragging. We walked through the interior of the hotel and I finally found our room.
When I used our key cards to open the door, there was already open luggage strewn throughout the room and it was already occupied! Obviously this is a huge safety issue with people have random access to rooms! We quickly closed the door and my husband and I agreed we should not stay at this hotel. I told him I would speak to your attendant about a refund due to the issues and our not staying there. We would find somewhere else to stay.
My husband took our kids and luggage and returned to the car. While putting everything in the car, he witnessed a drug deal in the parking lot of your hotel.
I spoke with the attendant and explained everything going on. She told me room 162 was mine. I told her someone was already in there. I emphasized were in the law enforcement field and there was a lot of questionable things going on with the property. I told her I’d like a refund. She told me she would make a note on my account and acknowledged it was purchased 3rd party. I wrote the manager asking for a refund and explaining our experience. I never heard a thing! I wrote corporate and got the following response.
"Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
I want to let you know that I called the hotel on your behalf to see where we're at in terms of your requested refund. Unfortunately, the hotel will not be processing any refund. They conducted further review and it appears that when you checked in, given the issue with the room, they offered you a better room. However, you refused and chose to leave the premises.
As you may be aware, each hotel in Choice’s franchise systems is individually owned and operated. Choice is not involved in the day-to-day operations of the hotel; however, they are expected to meet specific standards based on their brand affiliation."
None of the issues were truly resolved. I am beyond disgusted with this experience and out $132. I tried to write a review on Hotwire and conveniently, the hotel won't let me. Stay away...
Read moreThis review is specific to this hotel and NOT a reflection of Clarion as a hotel chain. I stayed at the Clarion Murfreesboro TN 2 nights. The parking lot was our first encounter. There was trash strown about including beer cans, take out food containers, and empty beer and soda cases just laying around. (All trash was still present upon leaving after two night stay) We parked, and upon entering the lobby, my first encounter was the outdoor pool. The pool was green and closed, I later found it may have been shut down by the health department. We checked in and after arguing with the front desk staff regarding early check in for gold club members and paying an extra $100 room deposit, we got our room keys and parked near the enterance closest to our room. There again was trash everywhere. The door, which should have been keycard access only was open. There was a 50 gallon trashcan outside that enterance, jammed full with trash the entire stay. The hallway was in definite need of a good cleaning. There were notable spiderwebs on the light fixtures and random dead bugs including one very large flying insect, which remained the entire stay. When we finally gained access to our room with our card key(which were not keyed properly resulting in another trip to the not so pleasant front desk staff),the room appeared to be clean. The bottom of my feet quickly reflected the carpet was filthy. The rooms were updated, the beds were comfortable. The wall mount towel hook fell out of the wall immediately when used. The toilet seat was broken. After settling in we walked to the indoor pool. Enroute to the pool there was trash littered around the sitting area. There was a significant amount of coffee creamer, sugar and other debris on the floor. This however was cleaned up by day two. The indoor pool was also greenish covered with pool noodles , and the hot tub had a film on top making it a hard pass for our stay. (which was dissappointing as the weather was rainy and it would have been nice to use without worry of getting an infective bacterial condition). During breakfast alot of our concerns became a bit clearer as the breakfast bouncer (needed to keep the homeless people from gaining access)explained they have a homeless people encampment in the wooded area adjacent to the hotel....hence the trashy outdoor parking lot and surroundings. This homeless encampment is no reflection on the hotel; however, assuring the hotel property is kept clean regardless how it got trashed is. I personally will not stay at this hotel in the future; however, its not really an option as i traveled a great distance and probably wont be in the area anytime soon. The price was reasonable, however, after seeing the upkeep, we definately overpaid at $79 per night. The hotel has so much potential. It's truly a shame. Again, this review is specific to the Clarion Murfreesboro TN and not the hotel chain as a whole. I would/will still give Clarion...
Read moreMy husband and I were on a cross country road trip and chose to stay at Clarion because of its location just off the highway, the price, and the photos on the website made it look like a clean, friendly place to stay. We chose wrong.
Our first room was directly across from the pool which may have been nice if we had kids or were looking for anything more than a place to sleep. The whole pool area was packed with people drinking and being rowdy and didn’t seem like they were going to abide by the pool hours. The only employee we saw was the young man at the front desk so it seemed unlikely that these hours would even be enforced. I pulled back the sheet on the beds to check for bed bugs and what I found was worse. The mattress pad was full of blood and urine stains along with cigarette burns. All of the furniture was damaged in some way. It looked like maybe a dog had chewed it. All of the countertops were sticky and clearly had not been cleaned in some time. I would have taken pictures but I didn’t even want any of my personal items to be near anything in the room.
We went to the front desk to ask for another room. When we got there a woman was screaming at the attendant that someone cleaned her room while she was gone for the day and said that all of her things were missing. The only thing the attendant could do was send her away. No manager, no security. I started feeling terrible for the young boy. He clearly had no help as people started lining up for assistance. It was a very busy Saturday night and the only person working was him.
We asked for another room in another part of the hotel. The second room was equally as bad. Again the mattress pad was filled with blood and urine stains as well as cigarette burns. The TV did not work at all. The bathtub was full of black mold. The dead bolt on the door didn’t work and it was clear from the damage to the door frame that someone had tried breaking into the room at some point. I went back to the front desk and asked for our money back. The front desk boy offered me a third room and I said no and asked for some sort of documentation that we were there to ensure a refund. He said he was unable to print a receipt but he could give me a copy of the form we signed when we checked in. He went to photocopy the receipt but said the scanner wasn’t working. I ended up taking a screenshot of it with my phone. We drove 1/4 mile down the road to a Double Tree and were welcomed with free cookies and water. Our room was spotless, no stains on the bedding, no mold in the tub. We slept like babies, refreshed to continue our journey.
I wouldn’t recommend the Clarion Murfreesboro to my worst enemy. We did get a full refund, however, it was a huge disappointment after spending 12...
