Only reason I give 2 stars is because the staff were amazing. Any person working at front desk was so nice, helpful and accommodating. I booked this trip as a little getaway for my sister and I. I figured, the price to stay was great and the pictures looked promising. Plus we got ocean view. Well, pictures are deceiving. We got here, and had to check in at a whole other building than what we were staying in. We were put in a room in the sandcastle building when the reservation said a whole other building we were supposed to be staying in. The sandcastle building looked rundown, the front entrance was not open, it looked abandoned. We had to walk on the side and down a little (unlit) hallway to find the elevator and make it to our room. The first room we were put in had not been cleaned. So, they moved us because again, the front desk were very accommodating. Our next room was fine.

Pros: The shower was good, nice water pressure. They give out two little bars of soap, and packs of shampoo & body lotion. Our AC unit worked well. Outlets worked fine. The cons: There was a bug smashed on the wall that we found. And the sliding door was very difficult to open, the lock also broke on it. The light in the kitchen did not work. Phone did not work. Our room did not get cleaned our whole stay, so we had to walk to the registration building to get towels, toilet paper etc. Elevators were unsafe and smelly.

As for the exterior, it was a sketchy building overall. There were multiple areas that look like they would be rooms to stay in, but were locked up and dirty looking on the inside. There’s not really much to do around unless you want to walk a little, which we didn’t mind. The pool was ok, but dirty, just a lot of sand at the bottom. Chairs were junky. But we had a good time hanging out there, it was quiet. Other hotel guests were overall friendly. As for the area with the indoor pool and hot tub— straight up dirty. The indoor pool was dirty and green. The hot tub was dirty, and had caution tape around the poles. The room overall had a musty, gross smell that was almost unbearable. But a plus side, there was a bathroom in there that was decent.

I am only listing all these details because this is the kind of review & pictures I would have liked to have seen prior to booking. I personally would not stay at this hotel again, especially for what...

One star is too good of a rating. I have never been so disappointed with a booking as I am with this one. Don't let the publicity pictures fool you like they did me! The resort was as total disaster. We had reserved an oceanfront and was put into a room overlooking a kiddie pool in a building where the elevator had been broken for 2 weeks, no date could be provided as to when it would be working. We were moved to another room in another building on the resort. At least the elevator worked (part of the time) The halls were dirty, the room was dirty (the sheets and floor had sand in and on them), one wall had a hole in it, the wifi didn't work, no clothes hangers, the sliding door to the balcony was off track and wouldn't open, the a/c didn't work properly and the cover to the wall unit was loose, the fridge was leaking water underneath into the floor, the floor safe was rusted and there were very few electrical outlets (not adequate in today's world of technology). We didn't have towels upon arrival and requested them. After requesting them and a broom repeatedly and being told that someone would bring them, we finally had to go to the office 2 blocks away and get them ourselves. This happened over and over during our stay. The property was a mess as well. Outdoor bar areas were abandoned, no outdoor showers for rinsing sand off, the water park and pools were trashy and there was actually algae growing in one of the pools, the place was unsanitary and trashy. We never saw any maintenance people picking up trash and taking care of the grounds. The parking was not convenient. I could go on and on but hope that I have given you enough information for you to be able to make a better decision than we did. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give this "resort" a rating in the...

Hand down the worst. Booked a trip September of 2024. I've been coming to the sea mist since '98 or '99. It's really sad to see how a property deteriorates over time. This last visit was the final straw. Dirty rooms, dirty sheets, wi-fi didn't work, TV didn't work (no service). Phone in room didn't work. One elevator out of service. Notice of building code violations from county taped to office window. The water park was closed. It looked like it had been abandoned for some time. There was trash and debris, broken chairs, etc. The building adjacent to the water park appeared to be closed at first, but I later observed some people. The impression I got was the building was being used to house the homeless or by squatters. Again, trash everywhere. The indoor pool was closed with a notice from DHEC. Not once during the stay did "housekeeping" clean the room, take trash, or offer clean towels. I had to walk across the street to the office and wait for the clerk to look up from their phone, each time I needed towels (and to complain about the wifi and tv on arrival). Peeling paint, rusted stairs, rust seeping out of the concrete, The outdoor deck facing the ocean had broken and splintered wood. A couple of the ground floor rooms were missing hvac units, and one was missing glass. They were fully exposed to the elements. I truly believe the building should be condemned if not the entire property. Yes, it's that bad. If the Sea Mist continues to operate like this, I can't see them staying in business much longer.

Now for the good - It wasn't crowded and the weather was nice.

Bottom line: If you're considering a stay at the Sea Mist,...

Pros: AC works good Shower had Hot water and good water pressure Every staff member was friendly and helpful Check in was at 4 but they allowed us to check in early. We were told our room was ready. Got to our room and there were dirty towels on the floor, beds unmade, dishes in the sink and trash in the can. Phone in the room didn’t work so we had to walk a block to the office and let them know. She was very kind and helpful and put us in a new room. Stayed from Monday to Friday and housekeeping did not come once. We had the sign on the door requesting a cleaner but when we got back to the room the sign was gone and cleaners had not been in there. Phone in the new room did not work so we had to walk to the front office again and ask for towels. By Thursday housekeeping still had not come so we had to walk yet again to the front desk in the pouring rain and ask for toilet paper. Pool area: Chairs were old and dirty looking and pool had so much sand in the bottom. Indoor pool was gross and the room smelled terrible. Hot tub wasn’t working and had tape around the poles.

By far out of the 50+ hotels I've stayed at this is the worst.first night we were locked out of our room they moved us to another room and there were dirty clothes and food crumbs in our bed so I go back to the front to see about a refund and when someone was coming to let us in our room they said it would be the next morning before they could get someone to fix the broken lock. It took us 4 hours th get into a room.So they insisted they would refund me after I had my stuff back, and they sent us to another room at least it was cleaner .they would not give me a full refund since they said I had stayed one night .horrible customer service and an extremely disgusting hotel ... I had even heard from an employee on the first night I wouldn't get a refund because because the manager doesn't care what kind of stay you have had he has been told to never refund ..the employee also told me everyone who works there hates there job. This place needs to be remodeled from the ground up the customers aren't happy and neither are the employees.
