WARNING: DO NOT BOOK A ROOM IN ADVANCE. We made the mistake of booking our 2 king rooms 4 months in advance thinking that it would be safe & a lock in for my mother inlaw to have her wheelchair accessible room. Boy were we wrong. After driving 10 hours all excited to make it to our first family destination vacation to New Orleans we arrive to find out that someone "accidentally" gave my mother inlaw's room away. They didn't have the nerve to tell her and gave her a room key to a room that she could not get her wheelchair through the bathroom door and 2nd the bed was so high that you had to use a stool to step up into bed. That would have been nice for someone without a disability. We go back down to the lobby and ask for a refund on their room only so that way my inlaws can go to a place that CAN accommodate her handicap. The PELHAM REGUSES. Stating that it was a NON-REFUNDABLE room. Yeah but was she supposed to sleep on the floor and ride down to the lobby to use the restroom? We asked for management and was told that they would be in on Wed., then Wed. turned into Thurs. then Thursday turned into Friday. Asked for the manager's name and was told " oh it is hard to pronounce." okay spell it for me then. They spelled "C-H-I-L-S-M. Hard to pronounce Chilsm? Friday comes the manager is there where my inlaws are told that they will NOT get their refund because in the heat of my mother inlaw crying and the room not being available and not having a place to stay after driving 10 hrs and the short haired blonde lady telling them that she would Not refund their money, my father inlaw yelled at her asking why and saying that it was not right. He never called her names just yelled about the nonsense and demanded their money back. Which any human would do. Still time this day no corporate no upper management has reached out to them and they lost over $800 due to the Hotel's fault for giving their handicap room away that they booked 4 months in advance. Sad very Sad.. Oh also be prepared if you are staying 1 week to pay an additional $250 for parking that is mandatory. Now let's discuss our room. We stayed even though the circumstances. I found a hotel across the street to accommodate my mother inlaw's wheelchair. It was way nicer and did not smell bad! Our room as well as the hotel had a musty odor throughout. If you are allergic to molds or smuts be aware and bring your allergy medicine. The lighting is dim. The elevator is slower than a slug stuck on a salt trail. But the architecture of the rooms with the tall ceilings are the only good thing about this place. Oh and the cleaning service, they are super sweet. Never ever will we recommend the Pelham or it's...
Read moreWe arrived after 2 pm on a Friday for a 2-night stay. The first words that the clerk said to me were, "So you want to pay for early check-in?" Huh? Pay extra? I didn't recall saying anything like that at ALL! Here, this was a largely empty hotel at the time, mid-afternoon, and she was unwilling to let two road-weary seniors have access to their room that was definitely ready and waiting and ALREADY PAID FOR! Apparently her earning a little extra folding money was more important than our comfort. The day earlier in Baton Rouge, our luxury hotel there let us check in 3 hours early with no problem and no additional fee. ||Now, I'm not a cheapskate so it wasn't about the $40 bribe she requested; that was chump change. It was the principle of the thing, about being treated less like valued guests and more like being told we weren't welcome and please go away. Did I mention that my girlfriend is handicapped, was in real pain, and wanted to lie down?||I asked her if we could leave our bags there until 4 pm. She said yes, but that we had to lug them in because they don't offer valet service if they don't park your car. She also said she couldn't park my car since I had already paid for the first few hours on a street lot. Hmm, this was starting to feel like more of a bad Motel 6 experience than checking into a supposed luxury property. So we ended up cooling our heels at a bar down the street for 2 hours until they would release the room. Guess what? It didn't cool ME down; rather, it put a huge damper on our fun weekend in New Orleans.||The Pelham hotel is off the beaten path, and the front entrance is next to the dumpsters of the Ruby Slipper restaurant next door. And while that is a great brunch restaurant, the hotel street front is, shall we say, "wet and fragrant." ||Our room and the amenities were nice enough, but just bear in mind that this is 100+ year old building, so rooms are small. I had to wait an hour for ice because that same desk clerk hadn't bothered to fill the bin, which also chapped me. ||So all told, I would say this is more like a youth hostel in terms of service and front desk concern for the guests' comfort. Don't get me wrong; we travel a LOT and normally stay at AirBNBs or VRBO, so we're used to hauling our own bags and roughing it a little. But we're seniors, and we thought we paid their higher room price to enjoy a little luxury, pampering and friendly courteous service. If you're looking for the same, I might suggest the DoubleTree, Marriott, Westin, Caesar's or any of the dozens of other nice properties in the...
Read moreI saw the Pelham online. This was our first trip to New Orleans and actually the first real vacation we've ever taken. I called before even booking at the Pelham probably 3 times with questions. I was met with friendly answers that were informative and kind. We booked and I was getting nervous because I was reading some of the reviews here so I ended up calling to confirm our reservation since we did book 3rd party and everything was fine. Someone is there 24/7. One of the things I did notice is parking. They do charge for it. They have a valet service and you have access to your vehicle at any time. We never needed ours so it stayed parked. We had no complaints about the valet service. Our vehicle was in the same condition as it was when we parked it. When booking the rooms please pay attention to your booking. They have interior rooms that do not have a window in them. I knew when I booked that I booked an interior so it was expected that we wouldn't have a window. The room is small but it seems larger because of the high ceilings. However, this isn't a problem. It's a place to sleep. And there's plenty of storage. You have a full closet inside of your room. We were able to do everything comfortably that we needed to do. My only complaint was lighting. It was pretty dim at times, especially if you're going to do makeup like I did. Thank goodness for muscle memory. If you need to do makeup, I suggest bringing a lighted mirror. The rooms were exceptional. They were clean and smelled clean. The linens were clean. I love the charm of the hotel. You can tell that it is an older building. It has been remodeled and you feel that New Orleans charm staying there. There was an exceptionally awesome concierge downstairs named Lloyd. Lloyd answered all of my questions that I had and was extremely helpful. Anytime I would ask for recommendations or information. He would do his best to get me the answers and help me. We will definitely be booking one of the studio rooms next time. They are much larger and normal rates. They aren't much more expensive than a regular room. The location of the Pelham is fantastic. You are right nextdoor to the Caesars casino. And I mean right nextdoor. And the French Quarter is just a 5 minute walk away. It's a quiet and central location. Security is nice there as well. You do have to be buzzed in the building. I definitely will be...
