Millport Dairy was originally part of the Greenmarket vendors but have since opened their own brick and mortar location on the UWS, steps from the 96 St (1/2/3) station. The new space is small, but packs a ton of goodies like fresh eggs from both hens and ducks, loads of cheeses, butter, meats, pickled greens, baked goods, and soon produce (the shop currently has asparagus for $6/bunch but strawberries are coming next week)!
You'll also find some of the best and freshest eggs in NYC here. For $6/dozen, you get eggs with an incredible deep orange color, which speaks to the quality and care of the hens that produce them. There are several egg options, from regular hens to pullet hens ($4/dz) to Ameraucana hens ($9/dz) to ducks ($12/dz) as well.
The shop is run by Farmer John who is extremely knowledgable about all the products he sells. On my most recent visit, I also picked up a dozen pullet eggs, which he explained, are the first eggs laid by young hens so they are on the smaller side but contain more nutrients. He also recommended that I cook them lightly to retain said nutrients, preferably sunny side up.
I'm very excited that there is now a brick and mortar location for Millport Dairy in the city, and highly encourage you to stop by during their opening hours (Wed-Sat, 7a-4p) for excellent quality goods from a...
Read moreLove that they opened. Also, I hope they keep the laundromat sign, I love the confusion.
So far, mostly everything I’ve bought has been winners.
Eggs rule. Three different prices, tbh- they all taste the same to me. The yolks are almost orange and there’s only slight difference in size from the $4 - $9 version.
The strawberries are the best I’ve ever had in life. Dramatic, but true. Insanely expensive for $9, but highly addicting. Their jam is almost too sweet, but still great.
Ditto their pickled anything. Best of all, are their jars are good quality. Aka- reusable for all you malakas out there who are into that, including me.
Their breakfast meats are good quality. The country sausages are ok, lil dry for my taste but good. The bacon and ham are the move, Gina.
I don’t regret any of the vegetables I’ve bought. The best value in the store.
I’m big on small businesses and this seems like a family run spot. The gent at the register is straight out of central casting for an Amish movie. They seem to be located in a few hours away in Pennsylvania. That said, I’m getting poorer every week from this spot. 1st world...
Read moreI was beyond giddy when I learned that Millport Dairy was going to open a storefront in my neighborhood! I have been a longtime customer of theirs at NYC greenmarkets. They have now been open almost two months (opened May 1, 2024) and each visit there are more offerings. The cheese! The eggs! The produce! And so much more (Pickles, Meats, Jam, Maple Syrup, Bread, Milk, Butter (salted and sweet), Cream ... a new surprise every week!). The produce is fantastic (seasonal, so grab it while you can!). Run, don't walk, to visit John, the owner, at his new store! The prices are also the best in town for items of this quality. There are so many more offerings at this storefront than were ever offered at his booth at the...
