Carefully check your charges and room folio statement. We joined our family for a week of touring Charleston, which was simply lovely. A few days into our stay I received a final folio (checkout statement). I asked the people working the front desk why they cancelled my reservation. They explained they didn’t cancel it, but were following their “standard accounting practices”and not to worry everything was okay for the rest of my reservation period. Upon online checkout at the end of our stay I didn’t receive my usual Marriott folio with the charges incurred for the length of my stay. While at the airport I called the front desk to ask for the folio. I was told it wouldn’t be available until Monday (this was Saturday) when the accountant arrived in the office. I then checked my bank charges and found Marriott had charged me thousands for my stay. When I calculated the rate per the charges on my credit card I determined they charged just shy of $1000 per night. I contacted my bank to contest the charges, I called the Marriott RI and told them they charged multiples over the contracted rate. I was told by the front desk person he could see I was charged a “crazy” rate, yet there was nothing he could do about it. The accountant apparently decides what the rate will be, when someone stays “longer than a few days”. I never received an adequate explanation from the accountant as to why this hotel does not follow Marriott protocol. I’ve been a Marriott member for 40+ years, have traveled extensively worldwide and have never encountered something like this situation. It took weeks and endless phone calls with the hotel accountant to charge the correct amount for our stay. The accountant processed numerous credits to my account, some as low as $.05. No one else in our family (three other rooms) experienced this. I left this situation thinking this specific hotel is running some sort of money laundering scheme, hoping their patrons don’t pay close attention to their hotel bill. I did contact Marriott Corporate to report this situation and never received an explanation from them as to why this happened, although they assured me they would look into it. Based upon this experience, the lack of plausible explanation from the hotel’s front desk personnel, the hotel’s accountant and Marriott Corporate I would never recommend anyone stay at this hotel. If one must stay here (business requirement) I recommend requesting a daily accounting of charges to compare to the reservation rate to ensure they are not attempting to overcharge...
Read moreQuite disappointed with our stay. I stay quite a bit with Marriott - my platinum elite status is proof. I’ll admit, this has been one of the worst stays in quite a while.
Was a little suspicious when the door of one of our rooms wasn’t fully closed when I walked up to it for the first time. The room looked clean so we settled in and then I realized why the door wasn’t closing. The door was really crooked (see pics). The maintenance guy came out twice - it seemed to be fixed but after being opened once or twice l the door would once I get in sag and be really difficult again.
That was annoying but I could live with it. The door was difficult to open but I told my wife I can open it and close it as needed (it was too difficult for her to open and probably explains why the cleaners couldn’t close it after cleaning the room). Really wish these kind of issues are addressed before guests arrive. I wish it ended there …
Our room was 80° when we walked in. We turned it down and left for a few hours. When we came back the room was not any cooler. We are reluctantly had to call the front desk again and report this issue. Maintenance guy came again and restarted the AC unit but nothing changed. A little later they brought in a portable AC unit that wasn’t connected through a window. The end result was cold air out of one vent and hot air and dripping water out of the rear. The temperature jumped to 84° in the room (see pic). I don’t know about you all but sleeping in mid 80° weather inside of a hotel room is not what I prefer in the middle of summer.
The front desk did not offer to move us because they said they were supposedly completely booked. When I push the issue coincidentally somebody canceled a reservation in a two queen room was available (instead of our king). Although it was miserably hot my wife said it was past 11 and she wasn’t gonna be moving rooms that late into the night. As a result here I am typing a review at 11:30 PM because I’m beyond frustrated with this place.
Things have to be horrible to deserve a one star rating. This hotel...
Read moreResidence Inn Charleston Airport has truly become a second home for us. The staff treats us like family, always going above and beyond. The manager, in particular, has been incredible—he always has ice cream ready for me after my surgeries, which brings me so much comfort. The staff never fails to check on us—especially during those hard times. Their warmth, kindness, and genuine care have made such a difference in our lives. They’ve even taken the time to play with my younger brothers and make them feel special. We are forever grateful for the love and support we receive every single time we stay here.
We stay here for about four months out of the year—three months in the summer and one in the winter—so this place has become more than just a hotel to us. It’s truly part of our lives.
There used to be food and karaoke every Tuesday, which was always so enjoyable and entertaining—it brought joy to all of us. Coincidentally, my surgeries often take place on Tuesdays, so having that warm meal ready meant the world to us. It took away the stress of worrying about dinner for my younger brothers while I was in recovery. It’s those thoughtful touches that made us feel truly cared for.
Even the old staff—some of whom now work at the nearby embassy—were always so welcoming. Christopher, the current manager, reminds us so much of the former manager, James. That same spirit of kindness and attention to detail lives on, and it’s what keeps bringing us back.
We are so grateful for everyone who has made our stays so special over the years. A heartfelt thank-you to Christopher for his constant care, and to James, whose warm spirit we’ll always remember. And to the rest of the incredible team—Jemmy, Jenn, Don, Wada, Wanda, Gabby, Nicki, Margarita, Terrin, Deitrin, Domonique, Thailissia, Cody, Mirash, and Sharon—thank you for making this place feel like home. Your smiles, conversations, and kindness have truly touched our hearts. We appreciate every one of you more than...
