**Final update: The free night coupon that management promised was looked for in mail and emails daily. I even called back, but ultimately nothing was ever sent, not to mention the refund. We are still very upset about our loss of a good vacation and the money we spent with this company, and will never be staying with Hilton again. Even seeing one while traveling gives me anxiety from the memories, and we encourage everyone who is looking for a hotel never to stay at Hilton or its companion businesses!
*Update: They never even sent the coupon!
Original post: Checked in to stay for the weekend and unfortunately had to leave early due to a family emergency. We left in a rush and were charged for the entire weekend ($600), after not even staying. I tried to speak to the owner but it took four days to reach him. When I finally did, we were told there was nothing that could be done due to them messing up our reservation. I was asked for my address and told I'd get a coupon in the mail.
Our initial experience: At first we were placed in an already occupied room! Someone was smoking and my daughter suffers asthma. After going back down to fix this, we found out later that we were double-booked on the same night (because I also booked through expedia before arriving, which is what we were expecting). I found out that they had canceled our expedia booking and then they rebooked us under their own service, which nullified my refund insurance for emergency cancelations with expedia! They did this all because they were confused. They wound up shoving us into a room without working air conditioning on a hot summer night and it was a smoking room from the smell. We mentioned all of this to management after and were told they would send us a free night for our trouble, but never addressed why they double booked, why they first put us into an occupied room with a smoker when my daughter has athsma, or why they didn't just issue us a refund after hurredly putting us in a non-cooled smoking room that costed us $600.
Ultimately we wound up wasting the money we were charged to stay that could have been used for our emergency, all because Hilton failed to refund us in their confusion and after canceling our first, fully covered expedia booking. I'm appalled and very hurt that they did us this way in the midst of going through a family emergency. (The family member is now...
Read moreThe organizer of the 33rd Annual Charleston Cup (held at the Charleston Area Convention Center in North Charleston, SC, from February 25-27, 2022) failed to follow its own published COVID-19 mitigation policies, potentially putting the health of hundreds of attendees and youth gymnastics competitors at risk. Mask wear was not enforced at all and, when questioned, an event attendant said that there were no mask wear standards in place or enforced at all during the multi-day public event.
Organizer's published COVID-19 mitigation policy: "During these trying times due, we must enact several processes and procedures not only to provide a safe competition but also to stay incompliance with LOCAL & STATE GUIDELINES as well as those established by USA Gymnastics our national organization which sanctions the competition. To ensure that the meet runs smoothly and safely, we ask that you read the following information carefully and make sure that all athletes, coaches and visitors are familiar with the guidelines. Important to All: COVID Protocols: The City of North Charleston requires that all visitors wear face masks to enter the Convention Center and Exhibit Halls."
The organizer blames the Convention Center for changing its policies prior to event execution (Organizer: "By the way, it was the North Charleston Coliseum/Convention Center that changed their requirement.")
The North Charleston Coliseum and Performing Arts Center and the City of North Charleston should avoid doing business with the Charleston Cup in the future due to concerns about the organization's ability to keep patrons safe by complying with City and, by extension, its...
Read moreI was here for a pro-life conference on a very rainy stormy day. We entered through the Embassy Suites that joined the Convention Center through a hallway that connects the 2 structures. We thought we'd get a bite at the hotel's restaurant beforehand. The hotel closes their restaurant from 1-530pm. To prep for dinner I guess. I met a couple of guys who were hotel guests and learned there was no room service either. There were only 2 front desk people who were overwhelmed by the number of people checking in. My last observation was the leaky roof. When we left through the hotel later to check on the dinner the restaurant was serving, we did see numerous buckets for the numerous roof leaks. The dinner was a small buffet. We choose to eat elsewhere, it didn't look worth the high price. I don't remember the exact amount but I think it was around $20 or more. So far I have judged the Convention Center of the attached hotel and I do think the Convention Center should exert their influence to improve the hotel & their services. The rain had its way with the Convention Center too. The water was flooding the lowest floor hallway, taking out the ATM. It triggered the Fire Department to respond to make sure it was disconnected to prevent an accidental electrocution. The other conference areas I saw were clean and water free. The bathrooms were clean and the drinks they...
