if you would to ask me my review 2 months ago, it would be 5 stars. this was my absolute FAVORITE restaurant. i told everyone i knew to come here and we ate here everyday we were in ocnj. My bf and i even drove 2 hours in the rain for their last day last season. (we also have their stickers on our water bottles)
i came with a friend a few weeks ago and noticed the crab cakes were different, no biggie but not as good as they used to be.
Came here labor day weekend with my bf and mom. she was so excited to finally try it after 3 summers of me coming home from our beach days with left overs. she ordered a poke bowl from their specials. when the girl brought it out my mom was a little confused since it didn’t say raw on the menu and simply asked if it was raw, she was just unaware. the girl said it was, offered to pan sear it, but my mom said she would try it. the girl walks back to the counter (mind you we were the only table in there and could hear their conversations the whole time) and starts whispering to the other counter girl and an older lady (owner maybe??). with her back to us whispering, the other 2 girls are staring right at us, as if my mom caused a scene or sent her dish back. i stared back at them and we maintained eye contact while they continued to whisper.
as someone who has worked in a restaurant for 8+ years, i felt as if this was totally unacceptable, rude, and unprofessional. if you had to make a comment about my mother asking a question, you should have gone to the back and talked instead of staring us down. i felt very uncomfortable. we finished our meals, stacked our baskets, and left. it’s upsetting that i won’t be returning after 3 years of being a loyal customer and recommending this place to dozens of people. i hope the owners will read this and inform their employees on the proper way to talk about and treat paying customers.
edit: my mother was stuck between the bowl and the burger and ordered the bowl since that was what the counter girl recommended. she had no issues with it being raw (she ate and enjoyed it), just simply asked if it was raw since she had never...
Read moreAfter weeks of wanting to visit this restaurant my best friend and I finally found time to go for lunch. Not only were they cash only and had a very fishy seeming atm that charges you a fee of almost 3 dollars, their prices were outrageous for subpar food. I am a salmon lover and was very excited to indulge in some of their salmon teriyaki. The fish was thin, dry, and tasteless. It was a huge disappointment. I could spend the absurd amount of money elsewhere and get a salmon meal far better than that. The rice was mushy and tasted as if it has been in someone else's mouth. My friend ordered the crab cakes which again were insanely overpriced for being quite tasteless, dry, and certainly not fresh. To add to the awful experience, the cocktail sauce that was given was a solid mass. It was as if they just pulled it out of the freezer. Please do not waste your money here, there are plenty of other places on the boardwalk that will charge you far less but give you a much...
Read moreThe only issue I had was how difficult it was for our party to actually eat. We had two toddlers with us and only 2 or 3 tables out of all of them had space to put the height chairs without completely blocking other tables or a pathway, and only 1 of those tables was available so half our party had to sit at one end, the other half at the other. It is very close quarters regardless, even while trying to order. Once we sat down however, the foot was delicious. I had the hawaiin chicken and I would highley recommend. I almost went back inside to buy just the teriyaki sauce that was used. It was far enough from the boardwalk main so you didn't have the crowd, but it was loud due to the "under the boardwalk" go-carts being right next to us. Price was average, as to be expected for...
