First the good:
Location a block from the boardwalk at Playland, and a few blocks from Asbury Ave is great. (However, it's not "steps from the boardwalk" as claimed in another review). The three bedroom suite layout was also perfect for our multigenerational 7 person vacation. The cleaning staff was unusually friendly and helpful.
But unfortunately, there was everything else:
Despite the hotel being brand new, there was already non-negligible damage to our room (e.g. electronic blinds didn't work in multiple rooms, hole in the wall from overzealous door opening, etc...)
Hotel website claims "Guests can utilize the coin operated laundry room on-site." This is NOT true. The laundry room was literally devoid of machines. The check-in desk at the affiliated Impala Island Inn told us that we needed to use the laundry facilities at Ebb Tide Suites, half a block away. And even then one of their machines ate my money and didn't work.
Pool is tiny. More like a glorified hot tub, minus the hot.
Most notably, the building itself did not feel finished. It was like the builder was running behind scheduled and rushed to get it open in time for the summer season. For example, the aforementioned laundry room. Proper signs indicated floors are missing in stairwells with hand-scribbled papers taking their place. Our room was missing a door threshold between one of the bedrooms and the common area (leaving a strip of bare plywood exposed); the threshold between interior doors is mostly cosmetic so on one hand, not a big deal. But it literally takes 30 seconds to install one, so kinda bizarre for it to be missing.
But here is the real head scratcher: the parking garage under the hotel doesn't look finished. I know I am biased by the recent Miami condo collapse, but some of the major load-bearing columns didn't seem properly lined up, Drywall tape is exposed and peeling, and in some cases missing altogether. Maybe this is all cosmetic too, but I just can't imagine a builder looking over that work, in a major hotel, and saying "Yeah, that's good enough". If they think visible work that shoddy is acceptable, imagine what non-visible stuff they also thought was fine.
I'm not a contractor or a structural engineer, so I'm not making any specific accusations. I can only say how I felt, and I honestly didn't feel safe staying here.
We are heading to the Flanders for the next...
Read moreMy family and I have been frequent visitors to the Impala Suites location in Ocean City, NJ over the past couple of years - our most recent visit being from Sunday, 7/30/23 to Thursday, 8/3/23.
We will not be returning to this Shorebreak Resorts location anytime in the future. There were a list of issues during our last visit - Room 311 had no/limited WiFi, the bedroom television never worked properly, the room telephone never worked at all, and their was false information shared with us about how and when these issues would be rectified during our stay- which, ultimately, they never were.
After speaking with front desk staff members, I asked to communicate with the Manager and ultimately his non-action and lack of responsiveness is in large part why we will not be returning to Impala Suites. We contacted one of the Owners too, and he chose not to respond to me either after multiple attempts to connect with him.
When we checked out on Thursday, 8/3/23, the Manager assured me that he would handle things and that he would call me if there were any problems or issues. Disappointingly, he did not follow through on his word (we never received the partial refund he promised us) he never called me to notify me of any obstacles in this process, and he never called me back when I left a message with the front desk again on Monday, 8/7/23.
I then reached out to an Owner to see if he cared to learn more about our concerns with his Impala Suites and why we have no plans on returning again. He did not respond either.
My only take away is that the Management and Ownership of Impala Suites do not care about their customers - only...
Read morePros Center location Half block from beach Parking so convenient , can leave beach stuff in car and grab daily. Pool gets the job done after hot day at beach Place is new and no carpets in the room is a huge huge plus! Every room has a balcony which is great. Very modern! Housekeeping services they were great! Cleaned the room so great and thorough (I can’t fault them for the fan being dusty because you would need to be pretty tall or carry a step ladder but keep an eye out because you need the fans because the AC units are week) when I turned the fan on it looked like a volcano exploded and ash was falling)
Cons- Place seemed rush to open. Room was dinged up, lots of dust on fan, lights didn’t work in bathroom (bulbs were out) Furniture in room had stains Way too many bugs for my liking! I know it’s beach town and flies/ants are things that just come but luckily I read reviews before Going and brought bug spray, so I killed all myself and sprayed the doorway, the sliding doors and the balcony! Remote blinds are a disaster! Cool concept. It disaster! Our friends room didn’t work! Our room in the last night didn’t work and we had to wait till midnight when the amusement parked closed to finally get our kids to bed! Finally at 1 I was able to find a YouTube and reset the remote to get it to work. Maintenance man had left when I called at 10 so they couldn’t help.
I would for sure stay here again but will monitor review to see if the place is maintained For a place...
