We had room booked for a 5-day stay. We arrived at 1:30 pm to find a dirty parking lot with broken furniture stored in various corners of the property. It looked bad but, we had a contract with Motel 6 and the reservation was set up as a direct bill so we hoped the inside of the motel would be ok. After parking, the man at the front desk came out and asked me what I was doing there. I told him I was there to check-in and he told me to wait outside. When he allowed us to go inside the tiny lobby he told me to leave the luggage outside in the parking lot. The check-in process was super awkward. There were signs all along the counter warning guests about everything from there being no microwaves and fridges in the room to smoking and parking rules. After confirming a few details he placed the key card to the room inside a used paper sleeve. The room he assigned was on the 3rd floor and there was no elevator. He saw that we were parked in a handicapped space and failed to acknowledge the physical difficulties we had getting up three flights of stairs with our luggage. When we finally got up to the room we found a garbage can sitting just outside the door that was filled with trash. The curtains were open so we could see inside the room-the furniture was old and run down and the bed was unmade. I went back downstairs and explained what we had seen through the window. The man called the housekeeper over and told her to clean the room. I went back up the stairs and met the housekeeper in front of the room. When she opened the door we could see that the room was even worse than what we could see from the window. The floors were severely damaged and had gray duck tape holding some of the pieces together. The furniture was filthy and heavily stained. Even the walls were dirty. We stood outside in the doorway and watched as the housekeeper fluffed up the pillows and remade the bed using all of the same bedding that the prior guest had used. I was shocked. We took all of the luggage back downstairs and told the man to cancel the reservation. There was no way anyone could be expected to stay at this motel. He tried to tell me that we arrived early and that was why the room looked the way it did, but the truth is I could have arrived next week and the room still wouldn't have been fit for anyone to use. He offered to put us in another room but, after everything we had witnessed with the sheets pillowcases, and blankets there was no way. If he had a better room, why would he ever assign this one? It just wasn't right. The whole feel of the place was very sketchy and unsanitary. The photos this motel provides to all the travel websites are very misleading –they are either very old or staged. This is by far and away the most filthiest place I have ever been to. There are several other hotels on Lombard Street that are clean, modern, and charge the same rates. I have advised the City and County of San Francisco to take this hotel off their list of providers and plan to write Motel 6 about this experience. I hope this review will save others the time and trouble we...
