Pretty damn good place. Overall nice pizza, although yall could leave the pizza in the center of your oven which hardens the center crust, as the toppings tend to slide down the slice. Gelato is awesome, you can tell either they make it themselves or they got a top notch brand. Either way properly priced for the quality.
Here was my only problem. When eentering from the side (we got confused because of second story liquor place next to them) you will walk past the sign that says please wait to be seated. When walking into a place that is small but has a lot going on, your eyes will never see that sign. We only saw it after leaving from outside, and only because we turned around to laugh at the confused guests that just entered. It is confusing because there is no centralized greeting spot, you walk in and you are in the middle of the room Needs to be a chalkboard literally in front of you or a damn hostess stand. We were a little confused but I quickly just told the Gelato lady that we wanted to sit down and have a pizza. She then told us to sit where we would like and she would get the server.
Well the point if all this is that a) get a hostess stand or chalkboard and b) train your Gelato workers to help greet and seat anyone coming in as the one server could not do it all. Seriously cross train your employees so that they can help or have a manager on shift to direct them. This is basic small business. We watched every guest that walked in after us go through the awkwardness of trying to figure out where to order or how to sit at a table. It isn't hard. But...
Read moreShady business practices. They have been marketing the 'chef flavors' like crazy. Then they push the group-on which is not valid for pizza and food (which it states). HOWEVER, the group-on is NOT valid for the "Chef Flavors" either. Plus, when I asked about the cost I was told they were the same, but when I went to check out, they were not (this is also when I was told that the group-on was not valid). After all this, the only thing I was told was "well it's for charity" (what percent?) and then after a long pause, "we could dump it back in and you could select a non-chef flavor." The entire reason I purchased the group-on in the first place. I was very unhappy and had groceries in 110 degree car. So I just paid for it. 16.08!! for a pint of ice cream. Maybe if you come from old Scottsdale money this is not big deal and Gelato Spot could be playing Robin Hood. 16.08!! The chef flavor I choose was good, but a splurge on quality and calories for me is paying $5 for Talenti (awesome) at Sprouts. Point of the story. The group-on would make the price reasonable if you could actually use it. Sucks too. I am a huge wood fired pizza fan when it is done right. Yet there shady business practices makes me never...
Read moreWOW!!! We went tonight and had a bufala and a spicy pepperoni and I must say, this was the best pizza I have ever had in the Phoenix area. It may be the best I have ever had. The sauce was perfect, the cheese amazingly fresh and flavorful and the crust was to die for! We also had the gelato. I highly recommend the salted caramel. I cannot wait to go back!!! I live in Southern Phoenix and will gladly drive here every time I want pizza. I thought the service was friendly and prompt. I would give them high marks there as well.
06-10-13 UPDATE: We have been going here for quite some time using Groupons. The Groupon had always stated that it was for use with Gelato, but they have been taking them from us for pizza for about a year. Under these pretenses, I purchased five more Groupons in the last month. They NOW are enforcing the policy for them to not be used on food. I am now stuck with 5 Groupons that I won't use. Unfortunately, the Gelato Spot has lost a good customer and one of their...
