Things that I really liked: Room was cute, clean, and really spacious. The location was AMAZING. Literally 4 walking minutes from the private beach and marina. Parking was great, we parked right outside our room door everyday. Breakfast was included with our stay. It wasn't the full one they normally over but they had pretty decent "take away" options. 24/7 front desk so we were able to check in at 1am.
Things that could use improvement: The beds were really firm, which usually indicates they're newer but my body ached. A hot shower helped though. If you like a firmer bed, you probably won't mind it. Weird lighting situation in our room. Two lamps on the bedside table and then a main light. The lamps had outlets. Here's where it gets weird, we turned the main light off and all my devices that were plugged into my lamp stopped charging. I tried to turn my lamp on to see what was going on and I couldn't. We determined that the switch for the main light, also controlled my lamp. We ended up unscrewing the bulb from the main light and it was fine. The walls are thin. You can't hear anyone breathing but we could hear people upstairs, outside, next to us, etc. That being said, we were so exhausted and at the end of the days, we would just crash. If you really like completely quite, it's something to consider. I wasn't told about the security deposit charge while I checking in so I was a little shocked by the additional $100 . $100 isn't bad but a quick notification would've been helpful. I went to the front desk the following day and the gentleman there at the time explained it to me. We were told that we'd be provided beach passes. We weren't told that they run out of them. Which was fine until we'd get to the beach and they had sold all of their day passes.
Things that really sucked: During check out, there were guests telling the person at the front desk, that they had been charged twice and the girl handed them a receipt and told them they'd only been charged once. I thought the guest were mistaken and ignored it. While checking out, I was told to email in the receipts for the beach passes we purchased and that they would reimburse my card in 2-3 business days. It's currently day 8 (not including the weekends) and I still have not received that money back. I verified that she received both emails with both receipts while I was standing right there. I shouldn't have ignored the guests who said they had been charged twice because 2 hours into my 8-hour trip home , I got a notice from my bank that my account had been over drawn. We were stopped & I logged in to investigate.Sure enough, they had charged me twice. Once at check in, $788.48 & once at checkout $688.48. I called them about it & the girl who answered was the same girl from checkout. I told her that I had been charged twice & she kept saying “we only charged you once.” I told her I was staring at at the charge, my overdrawn account, and a $11.99 overdraft fee. She didn't seem to care or be apologetic and told me to email it in. I sent it as soon as I hung up & never heard back. So, when I got home after an 8-hour drive through a literal smoky fiery hell, I had to call them again. I believe her name was Stacey or Tracey, but she was apologetic and explained why it might've happened. She deserves a raise because if it weren't for her, I would probably would never consider staying here again. -I carefully saved and planned this trip as a birthday gift for my mom and they literally left me with nothing, didn't seem to care, and didn't try to rectify it. We did get a call back from a female assistant manager on the 17th or 18th but that was after we called again on 16th. I got paid on the 15th and was able to cover bills but that was pure luck and the lack of sympathy for something that was caused by their establishment was disturbing. I believe in second chances so I will stay here again and I'm hopeful it'll be a...
Read moreThe location is great...walking distance to the casinos and shops and restaurants etc. Its in a quiet location and has a good amount of parking spots. Check in was easy, they even allowed us to check in early which was nice. The room was clean, the space inside the room was plenty big for two people. We had a view of the pool which was nice, but not something we really cared about. For 3 nights we paid just over $600 in July. Here is a list of the pros and cons. Pros: Location was great. Clean room and bathroom. Friendly staff. Nice pool and hot tub. Parking was plentiful. Quiet at night. Free breakfast was okay. Private beach access is a short walk.
Cons: Worst bed I've ever slept on. Seriously it was a total nightmare. No support, very cheap quality mattress with a bouncy springy sloppy feel...hated the bed. We were told that the beds were being replaced this year...too bad it wasn't at the start of the summer season.
The free breakfast was ok but the potatoes were flavorless and COLD when we got them. The bacon tasted really weird, like it was from Walmart or something. Only had the free breakfast 1 of 3 days there.
Two of the three nights we were there the tv service went out to the whole motel. The first night it was for several hours...the second night it was about an hour. The front desk had to keep calling the cable company to have them restart the service, then you had to unplug the little cable box to reset it in your room. That was irritating.
The windows were not locked. We discovered this on our second night that the windows were not locked and someone could have just slid open the window and got into our room. I had left my drone and my pistol in there the night before and was not happy that no one checked to be sure the room was secured before renting it out. Not cool at all.
The water valve for the shower was almost impossible to shut off. We had to slam it in with a closed fist to turn off the water.
The first night there the air conditioner for our room would not turn on. The guy from the front desk tried to make it work...but couldn't. After he left we heard a loud noise and finally it came on. That noise would re-occour all night long as the units compressor was turned on. As if sleeping on that thrift store mattress wasn't hard enough, we now got woke up several times a night from the ac unit...no rest for 3 nights makes for a long hard trip home.
I gave 1 star for the location. 1 star for the friendly staff and overall clean room and property. And 1 star for the available parking and check in/out procedures.
Minus 1 star for that bed...it should be burned. Minus 1 star for the problems with the TV service, the AC noises and inconsistent operation, and for the shower water valve needing to be slammed with a fist to shut it off.
If they do not get new and BETTER QUALITY beds, i would not book at this motel again. I would also recommend asking how long the room they give you has been using that same bed. If its more than a year, ask for a different room if possible. I was also told to ask for building 2 next time as it is not as heavily used and therefore the beds, shower water valves and ac units are in better shape. The trade off is not being in the main courtyard...not a big...
Read moreWell folks, I’ve got to be a bit blunt here in my evaluation. It was over a decade or so when I was last on the Station House property so you can take that into account. There have, apparently, been a few ownership changes since then. ||Our room was on a lower level, as appropriate for our age, in a room in the 120 series on August 24th and 25th of 2024. As mentioned in some of the reviews, some of the rooms are dark. They have been renovated though from what I recall of the rooms of the past. Despite that, we could see stains on the carpeting. However, one must realize you have a lot of foot traffic all throughout the year under quite different weather conditions and various outdoor activities involving tracking in of ice, snow, mud, beach sand and the like.||My main complaint is 1) the lack of safety rail assists in the bathroom we had (talk about a litigation lawyer’s dream!) and the location, of all things, of the toilet paper dispenser about 30 inches away, 2) the lack of forthrightness at the front desk as pertains to beach access and 3) the $699 we paid for 2 nights there (based upon a metric comparing what value we perceive we received at Station House compared to our staying at 4 and 5 star hotels in the Monterey/ Carmel area ). As to the issue of value, we must also mention that daily housekeeping activities are not offered.||There are a couple of things I would like to elaborate here. Based upon my discussions with the Lakeside Park Association people who own the beach and operate a potable water distribution system that serves many of its members, this hotel group is an Associate Member (they have their own well incidentally). That means, if you receive a voucher from an Associate Member, you will pay half the $30 adult fee and the $20 for a child fee to get on the beach. I don’t know if that charge is per person or not. I do know that if you are from a hotel or lodge that is a full member you pay $5 with a voucher. ||In our request for a voucher to get to the beach, we were told, on Saturday, the beach was closed for a wedding. On the second day, Sunday, we were told the beach was closed because of weather conditions. I visited the area on Sunday and discovered the beach was open. I suspect that the Station House probably was short on the actual paper vouchers which are issued by the Association or, perhaps, there is some different arrangement between Station House and the Association that we are unaware of. Regardless, the staff there could have informed us what to expect bad news or not. I think being up front with guests shows greater respect as opposed to not being forthright. Please give your guests some credit as rational human beings. ||While the location of Station House is stellar as regards access to Stateline and the entertainment and dining opportunities found there, I must evaluate this property as a 3 to be fair. Will I return to this property again?...
