After a wonderful stay with my 2 sons recently, I wanted to take the time to write and thank you for your unique brand of hospitality. Doubtless it’s difficult to go wrong in terms of enjoying the Heavenly Tahoe environment but having Mellow Mountain and it’s ‘family’ atmosphere as a base made that huuuuge difference in that we felt “at home” rather than part of the typical tourist brigade. We hope to return again at Christmas with even more of our large family!
Meantime I don’t need to risk enlarging your heads by adding to the 1000s of Reviews in circulation telling you how awesome you are so I’ll instead contribute by giving my Top 3 practical tips for how to put the cherry on top of life chez vous:
Maya’s Mexican Grill: village-style great Mexican favorites from the Lady from Querétaro and her Team . Ask for the secret menu….more secret tastes revealed en espanol of course. FreeBird Café: Tahoe can’t help being a bit touristy so the coffee tends to be chains or worse. So for 3rd wave coffee and all the superfood stuff goes with it, make the effort to visit Freebird a couple of miles out of town. Well worth it compared to slumming in a Starbucks. Bikes, bikes, bikes: Biking is not marketed enough in Tahoe and maps, trail signs, etc. are a disaster but those with a GPS and a problem with gridlock traffic on busy days can unlock a whole new dimension by simply hiring a bike. Safe, paved trails abound for the ‘relaxed’ cyclist so we ‘re not talking about becoming one of those lycra-loons flying around the circumference road inches from cars. Easy glides to Camp Richardson, along the Pioneer trail to Meyers or just to release you for a ‘proper’ coffee at Freebird will make you feel liberated.
Many more but we said “Top 3” so let’s hope on or more of these tips might make Tahoe life even more amazing for...
Read moreThe best hostel I've been in in the western states ! The rooms are clean. The beds really good and the ambiance is spot on considering what you want traveling and meeting others! Best part: Pricing is really, really good for what you get.
The rooms are motel-ish with 4 beds and are kept really clean. The beds are really comfortable and the rooms have their own toilet and shower.
The ambiance is perfect. Mellow it is!! The kitchen area is a real cool spot where you will defo meet other travelers. Lots of room for cooking. The bar seats here make it an awesome spot to get the conversation started with other travelers. The big table is perfect for some drinking games in the evening before going to a casino on which are in walking distance. You'd rather chill? No worries: On the sofa's you can chill the max out (mellow down) while watching a movie via the beamer.
The location is spot on and they have a lot of room for cars. Beaches are nearby, (grocery) shops as well, just as a couple casino's.
Thanks guys! Had a...
Read moreMy friends and I were in the middle of a hike on the Tahoe Rim Trail when an unexpected emergency forced us off the trail on July 4th. To our dismay, every hotel was either fully booked or charging a ridiculous holiday rate. We were feeling pretty hopeless until we came across the Mellow Mountain Hostel.
The amazing people there truly went above and beyond to help us. Even though they had no rooms available, they let us set up our tents in their backyard. This was my first time staying at a hostel, and the experience was far better than I could have ever imagined. The shower and restroom facilities they provided for us were spotless and felt like a true luxury after being on the trail.
Everyone we met was incredibly kind and generous, they even offered us a beer after our stressful day. We can't thank the Mellow Mountain Hostel enough for their hospitality. They truly saved our trip and showed us what a wonderful community they have...
