I have stayed at well over 100 hotels in the past 10 years. I can say with absolute certainty that this was, by far, the worst I have ever encountered. What you should know is that the place is for sale. So, I'm doubting the owner cares at all if anyone enjoys their stay because it won't be a long term concern for them if they don't have repeat customers. When we arrived to check in (at 7:55pm) there was a sign at the front desk that said "closes at 8:00pm", however, no one was there. There was just an envelope with our name on it. We then noticed a man (owner, staff??) patrolling the parking lot and yelling at anyone who tried to turn around or park to take a photo of the sunset. I get, it's private property, but standing in the parking lot for hours yelling at people who try to turn around seems a little ridiculous. No joke, we witnessed him out there for HOURS, and this happened each night we were there. Instead of taking care of guests, this guy was more concerned about making sure non-guests didn't try to spend a minute in his lot. The water pressure was nearly non existent. I have spray bottles with better water pressure. The tile was not finished - someone tiled the bathroom but then never capped off the edges or finished the grouting. The threshold between the room carpet and bathroom tile was unfinished and a tripping hazard. The carpet was very dirty and covered in crumbs and pebbles. the electrical outlets were extremely loose and we were hesitant to even plug in our phones out of fear of being shocked. The box spring was torn up and dirty, and the mattress was noisy and uncomfortable. the TV stand was in need of a wall anchor because it was ready to fall over. All of the paint was cracking off the outdoor decking and railings. The stairs leading up to the 2nd floor were suspect, the wood looked very warped and ready to snap at any moment. We had to leave 1 night early because our dog injured his leg and we tried to contact the owner to talk about the situation - we didn't really expect a full refund, but we thought that maybe we could at least get a half day back (quarter day, $20, anything..?), especially considering the rough shape of the place and the quality of the stay. The girl cleaning the rooms gave us his cell phone number, but we called and texted and the phone went straight to a full voicemail box and our call was never returned nor were our texts. If you can't give us anything back, that's ok, I get it, but you could at least have the decency to return our call or texts. We'll go back to Lake Placid, but we'll never stay here again and we'll be sure to tell everyone we know...
Read moreAs I entered the lobby to explain that there was water in the soap dispenser and not soap in it at all, a male employee started yelling at me, in front of my child, that I was supposed to check out earlier. He was beyond unprofessional and he was trying to be intimidating. It was a local trying to intimidate a tourist. I asked for the owner, opened my email to show the dates, and she finally said that she put the wrong dates in the computer and her employee was mistaken. She also admitted that I was overcharged for one of the nights that we booked. I was told it would be corrected, but the owner had been very busy as she has two jobs. I had to go back to the lobby a second time and request the refund.I had to wait for her to pull out her laptop and make the correction. Once back in the room, when we used the new soap, a brown liquid came out. It looked like iodine. not a good thing ever but especially during this pandemic. To top it all off, snow fell, as it usually does in Lake Placid, and the driveway was not plowed by 9:00 AM. We had a very difficult time getting out of the lot. Go to a different hotel where the service is friendly, honest, customer-centered, appreciative, and where the facility actually has real soap, because you will not get it at this...
Read moreThe Alpine Motor Inn is NOTHING like described on their website. The restaurant/bar wasn't open. The room was very small and not clean. Papers, etc. found on floor. Two different floors as you walked in as if patched. Tub not clean and the toilet loose. We paid extra to have a room with a view, there was a golf course you could see on the left and you could see the mountains to the left but that was the view. The lawn was not kept. No ice or soda machine. The coffee they say is available is in a small room in the office but there was only one small pack of coffee, no cups, etc. No maid service although there was an envelope in the room for a tip. I would never recommend that anyone stay there. The worst motel I ever stayed in. There was even a long black strand of hair in the sink and neither I or my friend has long or even black hair. There was no place to put your bathroom items such as toothbrush, etc. except on the bathroom...
