Let me start this by saying that when I think of a resort, I think of Dirty Dancing or Walt Disney World. That being said, I knew full well going into this, it was not going to be anything close to Dirty Dancing or Disney. We stayed in a 4 person cabin this past Memorial Day weekend and checked out this morning 5/27/2019. It's not quite yet fully the "busy season" (summer) so we got a pretty good deal on the room. I initially booked it because of the price and because of the extras you get along with it. We had a fine experience and I would do it again assuming I got it for the same price. The 1 room cabins are smaller than they appear in the pictures on the website and closer together than I imagined. My guess would be about 10 X 20 ft cabins spaced about 4-5 ft apart from each other (I did not measure, just an eyeball guesstimate) Each cabin has a queen bed and a twin bunk bed and comes equipped with a mini fridge, microwave, and AC (I was not expecting AC, so it was a nice surprise!) a tv, and a nice front porch with 2 chairs. The cabins are clean but certainly no frills. We had one usable outlet. I was also expecting the cabin to be more so located in the woods... instead, the view from our porch was of residential homes across the street. One evening while sitting on the porch there was a group of young men sitting at one of the residential properties drinking and making noise (harmless, but also not the view I expected.) The best amenities are the "perks" or free passes you get with your stay there. We got wristbands to visit Noah's Ark water park and Timbavati Wildlife Park tickets for the entire time we stayed. The only stipulation was not to remove the wristband, and they only give wristbands to guests on the reservation... so if you book a room for 2 adults but then decide to bring a 3rd, make sure to let them know so they will have wristbands for each person. They also give you a book full of coupons to other attractions and restaurants when you check in. Besides that, the amenities were somewhat lacking. There are 2 indoor pools. They are both nice and clean but nothing special. There are also hottubs and saunas which we did not use so I cannot comment. They had a lovely picture on the website of a lagoon... but when we arrived the lagoon was still under construction and taped off partially. Sometimes during the day we saw the construction trucks moving rocks and making dust, and there was a bit of a mechanical smell about the area. I was slightly dissapointed over this. They also boast a playground on the website which is basically 2 swings and a slide, not much there. And yes there is a small tennis court and a basketball net, but you have to bring your own equipment. because we stayed in the cabins, we did not have plumbing in the room... they had common bathrooms nearby. The common bathrooms were clean for the most part and I really liked the design where each individual stall included a toilet, sink AND shower. I also liked that you needed to use your room card to get into the toilet, that way you know you're not going to find a weirdo in there. I rate 4 stars for value! If you can book a cabin for under $80/night you won't beat this value most other places in the dells, especially with whats included. However, I rate 3 stars for service/general amenities. I believe they could do better. I also believe they might have plans to build more into the future. Every time I asked for something, I got what I needed quickly, but I didn't ask for much and no one went out of their way to ask if we needed anything. This is not the type of place you'd want to hang around at all day and I wouldn't consider it a "resort", but for inexpensive, family friendly accommodations nearby all the attractions it is a very good deal. Thank you American Resort for making a family vacation to the Wisconsin dells...
Read moreI recently stayed here for 3 nights. Here are my family's thoughts on the place.
THE GOOD: -They have 2 pools on site. One is a cool semi-natural lagoon that has a beach & waterfall and goes up to 9ft deep. (It's very cold) The other is a typical indoor pool you see at hotels. Nearby the indoor pool, there is a hot tub and a Sauna. -Clean facilities. Never had a problem with cleanliness during my stay. -The cabin was $74 per night and included 4 tickets to both Timbavati Wildlife Park and Noah's Ark Waterpark. -Beautiful area! Seriously eye candy everywhere you look. -Bathrooms can only be accessed with your room key. (Don't forget to lock the door behind you though!) -You can grill on a charcoal grill -Many nearby places to go to. Noah's ark is probably a 30-minute walk away. (5-10 minute drive away.) -The cabin was nice and included a small refrigerator, microwave, air conditioner, heater, table, chairs, 1 queen-sized bed, a twin bunk bed, and a small HDTV mounted to a wall on a swivel. -Each cabin had 2 chairs, small firepit, and picknick table. Ours also had a charcoal grill that we used extensively. Not sure if that was leftover by another guest or not. -They accommodated a few requests of mine such as getting a cabin closer to the lagoon and bathrooms. (Highly suggested.) -Close to a Walmart. -Bathrooms/shower rooms were different sizes. Some small and one or 2 large.
THE BAD: -You have to be with any children under the age of 14 at all pools/hot tubs no exceptions. I was disappointed at this as my boys are well behaved enough to swim by themselves. So when we wanted downtime in our room we couldn't because they wanted to swim. VERY DISAPPOINTING. -You have to show your room key at the lagoon. This is very annoying too as it's easy to lose a room key that is in your swim trunks while swimming. Then they'll probably charge you for that. -Staff is mostly friendly unless you have an issue. I couldn't find my water park passes and asked at the front desk for replacements. The lady there acted as though I was trying to cheat them and asked for $25 for a piece of plastic. What, am I trying to get more passes for more nonexistent guest? I drove from 3 hours away in a 4 door sedan. Where would I put them? The trunk? My goodness, they could easily look this stuff up. -You better hope you have no issues because they view all the customers as scammers and not decent human beings. -There is no lifeguard at any of the pools. -Water park pass does not include parking. Which is $20-$25. Ridiculous. -No pets allowed anywhere. If they find pets they'll charge you $100 fee. -The owner answers many questions in the reviews with passive-aggressive and snarky remarks. Not professional and it's making them look terrible. -No feminine products offered when...
Read moreJust stayed here this past weekend, my family of 4 (kids 6 & 8 ), had a weekend vacation to finish off the summer. I wish I could leave a better review, but there’s so many improvements this establishment could make. •Let’s start with the hotel: Friendly staff at the check in Main Building, but that was the “best” part of the stay; they’re suppose to be nice and welcoming. They answered all our questions at early check in so we could get started with our vacation. By the time we were able to check in to our room in Bldg B, the outdoor security door didn’t close, let alone lock. First impressions of the building, very “dark”, dirty, not very well up-kept. the pool area doesn’t have towels… weird… Hot Tub didn’t actual “whirlpool” nor was it hot enough, so that was a glorified bath. You would think if you had Great Stuff Foam in the ceiling, you’d make it “disappear” and blend in, and also with the paint on the wall, if there’s dry wall patches, you’d paint and clean it up… Now the room, pictures make it look bigger than what it really is; but it is what it is.. it’s a hotel room, not your home. But, come on, at least vacuum; or buy a better vacuum or something. Toenail clippings on the ground, sand feeling carpet, and lastly about the room, make sure the fridge is cold, my fridge was on setting 1. So great, my kids dietary needs, now have to wait and hope they don’t spoil in a fridge that should have been cold. Luckily over night, after I adjusted the cooling setting, it cooled down and was “fine” afterwards… Put up a sign that says towels located at office in main building or something. Lastly, the Lagoon area and the mini obstacle course, nice white beaches, yes! But, do some cleaning of the actual water conditions. I get it “all natural”, but it’s okay to buy some bottom feeders and help with the algae, get some snails or crabs, something to filter the water as well. Now the mini obstacle course, you could have your staff, part of a cleaning process, is to scrub the algae off the steps to the floats, scrub the algae off the seams… I guess, just take some time and make it clean and presentable. This place is a couple years old, but felt outdated and under kept.
•Now for the “Land of Natura” Resort/Water Park area, this is where the money is stuck, and I get it, it’s the main attraction. There wasn’t much to complain about here, beautiful place. Kids had fun, adults had fun, helpful staff, all around, this place is what’s saving your overall rating. The water park resort is the 5 of 5 Star.
For the price of the stay, the “all inclusive-fun” with our stay, is what made the price worth while; being able to go to the Zoo, Waterpark, Treetop walk, Aloha Beach, The Vue, and everything else; it saved on the funds for everything...
