I am the guest who stayed from 3/8-11 with another girl. To be specific, this was my second time in Hanoi after so many years, so I was quite excited to have a relaxing stay here. The reason why I gave it two stars has nothing to do with the services or equipment itself, these two parts have saved this trip from being the worst. The room was neat and nice thanks to the cleaning lady, and the guy who had helped us carry the luggage was really helpful and kind. Let's cut into the main topic, I wish the young guy who greeted us at the front desk could be more sensible about some sensitive topics since Hanoi is a big city that has attracted tons of tourists all around the world, so I expected a professional welcomer like you would know better than people who are not working in this industry. When I showed my passport to the receptionist, I felt completely disrespected by being called "You are from China!" in such a rude manner. As a Taiwanese who has been living in Taiwan for 23 years plus staying in the US for 1 year, I have deeply known that this is quite a complicated topic which is also confusing. but whenever I tried to explain our situation in the past, I could receive a friendly interaction along with a respectful conversation. Unfortunately, I felt disappointed when I talked to this guy, you were supposed to be respectful to any kind of passport holder no matter what their self-identity is or what your opinions are. Instead, he kept trying to argue with me even though we already had a clear statement. I truly felt disrespected by the arrogant attitude. I work in one of the two biggest airline companies in Taiwan, and I have faced many international tourists every single workday, I am fully aware of how to peacefully react to different situations, and so are you, you should never treat the customers this way. At last, I sincerely hope the same circumstance will not happen once again. Sadly, it was indeed the worst first impression ever of Hanoi....
Read moreThe location is very good, with the night market, Dong Xuan market and beer street all within easy walking distance. It is near enough to beer street and the bars etc, but on the quieter side towards Hang Mam so you do not get the noise.
We had a junior suite with a balcony. The bed was comfortable and the aircon was pretty strong, and there were ample powerpoints to charge our devices. There was a mini safe and a mini fridge too.
The room was slightly dated and small, and we had to squeeze into the corner between the bed and the cupboard. The balcony was tiny and there was only a metre or so of space, but it afforded a good view of the street below. The room floor was rather dusty.
They did not serve breakfast, but there are ample places to dine in the area., from the Michelin star Duong's and high end May De Cuisine to the grilled meat street food on the corner. There is a flight of steps between reception and the lift on the floor above, but staff can assist to bring the luggage up.
The staff were friendly and helpful, particularly Mis Kim and Tracey, and the nice gentleman (sorry, forgot the name) who studied before in China and who helped with our luggage. They suggested several places to eat and shop, and can also help to arrange airport...
Read moreA glossy and refined take on your typical Old Quarter building with AMAZING service and care that really make the stay exceptional.
Hana, Ken, Max, and the rest of the staff made me feel welcome, appreciated, comfortable and taken care of, extremely professional yet comfortable like a friend.
I booked a junior suite which had a bit of an emphasis on the "junior" and the balcony was large enough to stand and smoke but not large enough to sit. This is typical "balcony" is expected however in the Old Quarter.
I think it's a great choice to mid-range travelers and certainly a world of difference from options the Old Quarter provided years ago.
Bed was comfortable. Room was very clean. Towels were new. Water pressure and temperature were EXCEPTIONAL. TV while very small had a wide range of channels and the lighting in the room was adequate. Could use an extra outlet next to the beds, which was a bit frustrating but this is not the InterCon .
Overall a great stay and a great experience. Truly world-class and 5 star service. I felt better taken care of and attended to here than I have staying at 5 star hotels in New York, Hong Kong or Paris. I was blown away.
A+. If you're staying in the Old Quarter and considering this spot, I...
