Reading the amazing reviews of this hotel months before I made the trip to Hanoi, I was so excited to stay here. I arrived sometime in the early evening after a gruelling 14 hours of flying and was greeted kindly by a staff member. However, when I was shown to the room, I noticed that the bedsheets were not clean and had hair all over. I showered and right after developed a terrible rash most likely because I was allergic to the laundry detergent used to wash the towels. I mentioned this to the staff and very graciously, they had offered me a new room. The new room was a floor lower and I carried down my own bags. The bed was cleaner but I still had a bed feeling about it. I didn't mess up anything in the room (besides washing my hands and using one hand towel when I got in), but because I wasn't feeling well and worried about the inflammation of my rash that had now spread all over my abdomen, I decided to ask if I could cancel the booking. This was when staff became very angry with me--which I guess I can understand. I mentioned that I'm happy to pay for the room for the night and asked if I could have the other 3 days cancelled. I asked if they could try to understand that I have very bad allergies and could not stay there. ||They told me not to return and that they will convey my case to the manager the next day. When I messaged them on booking.com the next day, they said that they would cancel the reservation if someone took my room. All in a tone that was menacing and rude. ||I struggle to write this review because I understand that the situation was very frustrating for them. However, I had an allergic reaction and I felt that the way I was being treated was extremely unkind. Despite my utter exhaustion, I tried to mitigate the situation by offering to pay for the first night, I tipped the bellboy despite having to carry my own luggage most of the time, I tried to explain patiently that I wasn't feeling well, but it did not help the situation. In the end, I found another hotel that was way more understanding, kind, and hospitable. Where rooms were clean. ||I don't mind losing all the money I paid for the hotel but I want to warn guests especially those that might have contact dermatitis or other allergies, to maybe first check out the rooms before making a...
Read moreI will stay here again. Great location, in the old quarter. I walked to every corner of the old quarter and a little beyond; the hotel is centrally located.
This is a boutique hotel, done right. The owner/manager - Nam, the Concierge - Anna, and Thien - manager of the pub, are great. Everyone who works here is at once friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The people here really want you to enjoy your stay.
The rooms are the right size for a comfortable stay. Hot water in the shower!! Shampoo, toothbrushes, etc., everything you need - supplied. The bed and pillows? Outstanding! Very comfortable. The ac blows from the side, so you do not have blowing on your head or into your face, and the unit is matched well with the room size, cooling it rapidly.
The breakfast buffet is outstanding, and it is a great selection for global visitors. Eggs are made to order, and the selection of food reflects a broad offering.
I have always left a tip for housekeeping; I left 4 different bills of currency for the housekeepers (they clean rooms as a team of 4) as a tip when I left to tour the city my first morning, returning later to find the room cleaned, and the money I left for a tip stacked neatly, placed back on the bed where I had left the tip in the morning.
Where do you find such honesty and integrity these days? I had to ask Anna, the concierge, to tell the housekeeping staff that it was a tip for them.
There is a review here from March 2024 stating money was stolen from the reviewers room, suggesting or claiming hotel staff stole their money. I am calling BS on that for several reasons: First, it is a team of housekeepers that clean the room. They get in and get out, with 3, more likely 4, staff working in the room at the same time. Second, the door is wide open while the cleaning occurs. Third, let's look at this reasonably; something the hotel can not say, but I will - not every guest is an upstanding individual - and lastly, there are two sides to every story.
This hotel is run like a tight ship.
I used to consult and lived out of hotels at one point in my life, and I know a great hotel when I see one - and this is...

This hotel had some great reviews, so we were very surprised and disappointed with the quality of our room. The hotel staff is very nice and helpful, the food was fine and the bed was comfortable, however our room was horrible.
First of all, it was tiny. We could barely fit our two suitcases in it. Secondly, there was no windows. From the windows we saw in photos one was to the bathroom, and the other one opened into the inside of the building (with mouldy walls). This meant that there was no fresh air, and the room was dark, hot and stuffy. Everything was moist and smelled like mould. Every morning we woke up with a headache and after a couple days started getting ill. Our clothes were constantly damp and smelly. Every evening we dreaded getting back to that room. Our toilet broke on the 3rd day and we were put in a different room for one night while they fixed it - that room was much nicer and didn’t smell, but the windows weren’t soundproof and we couldn’t sleep all night because of how loud it was. As we were pretty jet lagged we wanted to sleep in and left the Do Not Disturb sign on our door every morning, but every morning we were woken up by staff being loud outside our door. From around 7am to 11 there was always someone shouting, talking, making phone calls, hoovering etc, and we could hear everything like they were in our room. There were little ants everywhere. The shower door didn’t close. The room was cleaned every day but not very well. In the end we couldn’t stand it any more and decided to check out early. We managed to find a much nicer room in a different hotel and could finally enjoy the remainder of our trip.
I believe there are nice rooms in this hotel and the reception staff is lovely, but we’d never...
