HORRIFYING! I WAS ROBBED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT in this place and the staff only tried to hide it and made it seem like nothing happened, with no measures taken to improve safety. I am honestly shocked to see this place still has good reviews and I’m noting my experience here to help avoid Hoi through the same I did. I also see there are other people who posted they were robbed here, unsure if this happened on the same night. Here’s my experience:
Besides the pictures not matching the actual dark, loud and smelly rooms, with no lock or security system to enter whatsoever, the staff (especially the woman who seems to be the owner) is rude, patronizing and overall unprofessional to the limit.
Back to the robbery: I was robbed together with 3 other people in different rooms by someone that was let in past midnight, allowed to walk around various hostel rooms even though there’s cameras all around, and then allowed out easily by the staff (????). The staff’s initial response was to ask us to keep quiet so other guests wouldn’t react… of course! Why wouldn’t they alert other guests to attempt to get evidence, catch the perpetrator or at least clarify what had happened and help others who may not know yet they were robbed?? Oh and they blamed me for not putting my valuables in the locker, while I actually had them in a small purse by my side, next to the wall in the upper bunk. YES, the thief CREEPED INTO MY BED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND TOOK MY PURSE FROM ME. I’ve never had such a creepy experience and such little care from the hosts. Disgusting.
I’d highlight as positive that one man (who seemed to be the other owner or manager) was the only helpful person that tried to help us an actually supported us in the process. He was kind and helpful in the end. However, it wasn’t until I got the police involved that I was taken serious and action was taken. The only decent thing about this place is the price and the fact that a basic breakfast with good coffee is included. This was unfortunately at the beginning of our trip to Vietnam and wasn’t the most welcoming experience. We felt terribly unsafe after this and it’s not fair given the lovely country we found it to be.
I’m positing this to prevent those who expect a smooth experience and actually enjoy the city, from booking this place. My biggest concern with this place is safety, with rooms not having a lock or security card, which means essentially ANYONE can walk to your room even in the middle of the night when the staff allows non-guests to enter the hostel (???). It is cheap, but honestly not...
Read moreThis place did the job but I would not stay here again. To get to your room you must climb up about 8 flights of stairs and there’s no lift. Not much of a hostel vibe as there isn’t really a communal area, just 2 bench seats in the reception area. I stayed in a 4 bed dorm, they are double beds and reasonably comfortable. The bathroom had no shower curtain - any time someone has a shower the whole floor is wet. Door to the bathroom is frosted glass and you can see someone’s silhouette while showering. Shower gel is provided. We stayed a few nights and the bin for our toilet paper was not changed. The power points in the room are difficult to use and half falling off the wall. In the storage cupboards in our room, one was full of linen in a garbage bag, and another was full of crap that a previous backpacker had left behind. Free breakfast is ok. We booked an airport transfer when leaving vietnam at 5am and paid for it beforehand. Mid way through our ride we confirmed with the driver (it was a taxi they had organised as our transfer) that we had already paid. Driver pulled over and stopped the car - he had not been told this from the hostel. Had to call the hostel to sort it out - very frustrating as this delayed us going to the airport and it was also quite scary. Don’t bother booking tours through the hostel - they will show you pics of a nice fancy bus as part of the tour and then conventionally you get booked on a different bus. Staff at the hostel constantly calling and texting unnecessarily. Aside from all that, it is in...
