Truly disappointing stay. Unsure how this place is getting such good reviews, our stay was littered with small inconveniences and frustrations.
Firstly, we booked a room with a city view. Upon arrival our allocated room had a window which was boarded off. The other smaller window had a less than pleasant back alley view. We were subsequently offered a different room, which had a window that was not boarded but I still wouldn’t describe it as a city view. This room was clean and the amenities were as described. Wanting to relax, we attempted to turn on the TV only to find that the remote had a missing battery so wanted to working. Defeated we turned in for an early night. We were informed that the manager wanted to speak to us the following day to apologise. Decent customer service we thought, however when we went to reception, the manager was dismissive saying that they were busy. This simply isn’t good enough as they were the ones who asked to see us.
After exploring Hanoi, we wanted to come back to our room to freshen up. We were frustrated to learn that the card to the room was reset so we couldn’t enter. We had to go downstairs to get it reset, a fairly quick job but inconvenient nonetheless.
Since my partner and I weren’t well, we refused housekeeping as we wanted to sleep. So we called down for two bottles of water to be sent to the room. The receptionist tried to charge us for the water. The hotel manual states two bottles of water are complementary every day. I had to quote this to him before he backed down and soon they arrived with two bottles. Even the simplest of tasks seems so exhausting with this team.
Lastly, we called the reception in the evening stating that we will be checking out early at 5am the following morning. As we had breakfast included in our stay we requested two bowls of cereal and fresh milk in a separate container to be sent to the room so we can have breakfast before we leave. Initially they agreed to this and the bell boy arrived about 5 mins later with two empty bowls. There was no cereal or milk. We waited 10 mins before calling again, to which they respond the kitchen is now closed, despite the fact the request was made before the kitchen closed. How they expected 2 empty bowls to satisfy our hunger in the morning I’ll never know. Grasping that we were frustrated, he said he will come up to the room to discuss, nobody turned up. I called the reception twice more, no answer. I went downstairs myself to speak to them, and they said that the kitchen was locked and they couldn’t get in - I gave up. As it was Tet New Year we ventured up to the 12th floor (restaurant) to watch the fireworks, and you can imagine my surprise when the cereal containers were laid out as they had been for breakfast. If they had told us, we would have happily gone and got it ourselves. We don’t understand why this situation had to be so complicated.
In summary, we had a disappointing stay here. Staff had several chances to redeem themselves, but didn’t. The room was comfortable, clean and the breakfast nice; but our stay was nothing short of...
Read moreAuthentic recreation of Vietnamese old world charm. This hotel has been lovingly built using the wooden beams, carvings and materials from two historical Vietnamese heritage homes. The owner and her architect husband designed this to showcase the beauty and historical architecture of Vietnam. They are even building a museum on one of the floors. ||The rooms are so beautiful! Every little detail is incredible! The beds are firm but comfortable and we had a good nights sleep. The bathrooms have a rainfall shower as well as a hand held shower head. There is a safe, a hair dryer and a mini fridge. The outlets are universal so you can charge your iPhone. The items in the fridge are actually very reasonable if you want to purchase them. ||Breakfast is on the 10th floor with view of the city all around. The beautiful wooden benches and tables are antiques. It is truly beautiful. The staff are so genuine and ready to assist you. If you ask they will prepare you an egg cooked anyway you like. There is always a variety of dishes authentically prepared so you can taste the local foods but there are also small pancakes, breakfast sandwiches, sometimes muffins and a great selection of fresh fruit. Of course there is Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk or regular if you like. You can get a glass of fresh squeezed juice or detox water. ||Take a walk up to the sky bar for the best view in the evening. It’s so amazing.||We didn’t book any tours through the hotel as we did them before we arrived but the staff will eagerly assist you if you like.||There is only one challenge with this hotel and that is the location in the ally/street. It’s not on the main road so you can’t see it from the road or drive up to the door. It is in the heart of the old quarter and surrounded by the hustle of the street vendors. it’s actually quite crazy. The amazing staff will come out to the street to meet you and help you with your bags if you let them know when you are arriving. They do the same thing when you leave. They carry your bags out to your car/van/grab car when you leave. ||My husband and I loved staying at this hotel. I would return in a heartbeat. It...
Read moreA Heartwarming Stay Thanks to Anna!, Soul of the Hotel We recently stayed at this hotel as a large vegetarian family group, and while the property itself has both pros and cons, one person truly made our experience memorable — Anna at the front desk.
From the moment we arrived, Anna welcomed us with genuine warmth, a bright smile, and remarkable politeness that instantly made us feel at home. Her friendly demeanor and attentive service were truly the highlight of our stay, and honestly, the reason we decided to continue staying at the hotel when we almost considered checking out due to a concern (explained below).
The hotel is located in the heart of Hanoi’s Old Quarter — incredibly central and convenient for exploring the city’s charm. It’s not a luxury resort, but it’s full of character, designed with antique-style decor and artistic flair that captures the essence of the historic district.
However, we did face one challenge: the entrance is tucked inside a narrow alley where multiple meat vendors operate, which was a bit uncomfortable for us as a vegetarian family. At one point, we seriously thought about changing hotels. But again — Anna’s kindness, patience, and professional hospitality won us over.
The rooftop breakfast area was a nice touch with a great view, and while the vegetarian options were limited, the overall setting was enjoyable.
In summary: • ✅ Fantastic service – Anna is truly exceptional! • ✅ Perfect central location • ✅ Charming antique decor • ⚠️ Note for vegetarians – alley entrance may be uncomfortable • ✅ Good rooftop breakfast ambiance
We would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in the Old Quarter — and if you get the chance, be sure to say hello to Anna. She’s the soul ...
