I am a young female solo traveler and ended my group trip in Ho Chi Minh City. I had one night to spend on my own in that bustling capital of Vietnam and therefore was careful booking a place where I would feel comfortable, but most importantly safe. This turned out to be my worst hotel experience ever! I arrived at the hotel (Na Nue Hotel), which didn't have a lobby, it was just in the back of a restaurant only to find out they overbooked the hotel and therefore I would have to stay in one of their other hotels. This seemed to be normal, since I appeared not to be the only young woman, that then got walked to another hotel, where I found myself standing in front of a desk in the back of a restaurant. The hotel staff was ignoring me for 10 minutes, trying to find the one key to my room, which was on a key ring with another 100 keys. My room card wasn't prepared either, so they rolled some tape around a plastic card and wrote down my room number with a pen. My question of how much i would have to pay for my room the next morning (I couldn't pay online and wanted to make sure that I would have enough cash), got answered with: You will see tomorrow. The unfriendly guy also took a picture of my passport. When I then go to see my room I was speechless: the room was everything but what I booked. Really small, dirty, the bed uncomfortable and small, furnitures were broken, the bathroom didn't have a proper wall (so i would basically shower and poop outside) and had a window to the hallway of the hotel (?!?!?!). But worse: the entire room stunk terribly of cigarettes. I got back to the reception to ask for another room or simply for a room spray to remove some of the smell. His answer (while he was pointing towards the door): If you don't like it you can go and find another hotel. Well, it was late evening and I did not want to walk around alone, after sunset, with all my belongings, hoping to find another place to sleep. So I stayed and ended up not sleeping, since the hotel was so close to a pub street, that I had the feeling I was lying in the back room of a club. The music was so loud, people would walk past my room all night, and I could even hear the people vomiting outside on the streets. Communication was horrible, since none of the people working there spoke any good english, so I ended up paying for a family (3 pax) room. I don't know how they would have fit 3 people in that one small room. Well, never ever again is all I can say. Thanks for ruining my last...

Despite being located among the hustle, there wasn't much noise to disturb your sleep. There was also a bus stop nearby, Bus 109, that can take you to the airport for 20,000 Dong.
The room was huge and exceeded my expectations as I was expecting something smaller since it was located in the backpacker's area. My room had a single and double bed, a small balcony, and even the toilet was huge. Everything was clean and came with the usual toiletries, hairdryer, fridge, free bottled water. Really nothing to complain about.
You get to choose your breakfast from a list of options, kind of limited, but it didn't matter since the options were decent. Had egg omelet and pho ga which was delicious and filling.
The reception staff was really nice and helpful. The hotel kind of shared a space with the next door Asian Kitchen Hotel, which also ran a hotel and restaurant which offered a 10% discount. And I am not sure if the room I was in belonged to Asian Kitchen Hotel or Na Nue Hotel since I went up the stairs from the Asian Kitchen Hotel.
Well, there's no lift here, but it wasn't a bother for me since I was used to...
Read moreUpon my arrival at Na Nue, I was worried that I made a wrong choice because I had to access the hotel through a hotel on the ground floor (that was the case with most hotels in town). However, the rooms were clean and comfortable, I have access to 10% discount for the meals I purchased in the restaurants. The staff were friendly, even though they don't understand English very well, they were calm and interested in talking to me and helping me understand. The internet was so great, I didn't expect it. They offered breakfast, water and coffee as complimentary and I enjoyed these.
The location was great, shopping malls, stores and markets were less than 5 minutes walking distance. I didn't have to spend a lot on transportation when going to museums and for tours.
Disliked · My hotel room was on the fourth floor, which means I have to climb the stairs frequently because there was no lift. I limited my going out, I won't go up to the room except I was done for the day. I asked for a room on the first two floors but they had limited rooms and the rooms start from second floor.
There were no telephones in the room, which means if there were any emergencies, it would be difficult to get help, and possibly going through...
