Prior to coming to Japan, I was looking for a kimono rental location close to Chazen.
The goal was to wear kimono, attend the tea ceremony, and then walk around Asakusa before returning the kimono.
Unfortunately, due to the timing of the day and opening hours of Nanako, the kimono hire was not possible.
None the less, I still visited the store with 3 people to get dressed up in kimono. We were there on a Monday, around 11am. We did not have an appointment, but the staff were very adaptable and got everyone dressed within about 20 minutes. It took time to pick the different components but everyone was able to be dressed in a kimono in the end.
There are lots of styles of kimono to pick from with different price ranges, so depending on your budget, there is something to suit everyone.
This place is still conveniently located along the main street. You need to look out for the white sign with black writing - we almost missed it - even though there were 4 sets of eyes looking!
There is a seat with a bear outside. You have to go upstairs to reach Nanako Kimono Rental.
Nanako Kimono Rental was very well priced when I was comparing what all the different kimono rental companies were offering. To get this better pricing, you just need to walk a bit further. If you are coming from Asakusa station on the Ginza line, go out of Exit 1, walk straight (past the kaminarimon (Thunder gates)), then Nanako Kimono Rental is just 2 more blocks.

Read moreHair was included in the standard plan, and there’s a large variety of patterns and fabrics. There’s a student discount if you get the basic plan. I think my total was about $55 CAD/¥65,000 including some extra costs like obi accessories and a purse. You can stay in the yukata and walk around senso-ji and asakusa for quite a while, so I think the experience was...
