Easily one of the best restaurants to go for a flavorful and filling meal that is equally light and simplistic. From the handmade onigiri, comforting soups, flavorful miso, and wonderfully complimenting side dishes, the variety in each meal is perfect. All of the items on the set menu work wonderfully together to create an unforgettable meal.
Located right near Sensō-ji and Nakamise Shopping street it had a great location for filling your day with amazing food and sightseeing. It works as a great spot to stop any time of the day (especially in the mornings!). My brother, friend, and I went here for our day in Asakusa and it was one of the best decisions I made all trip. The restaurant is a quiet, comfortable place, that sits 5 people on the first floor and more on the upper levels. I’d say it’s best to go here solo or with a small group as it’s not a huge place.
The wait when we got there was less than 10-15 minutes. Once you get inside, there is a variety of onigiri on display, and a line of cooks that make your food in front of you (providing you’re on the first floor). There is also an English menu and one of the staff I spoke with was very capable in her English ability.
You can order the soups by themselves, but I highly recommend the set menu for the variety of authentic Japanese cuisine. After ordering you sit down and wait at individual seats lined on a bench. The bottom floor sits a group of 2-3 really well, but more might be harder due to a pillar dividing the 5 total seats. Most of the seats were spacious, although my friend on the left side closest to the door didn’t have a lot of room on his side. Nonetheless, the slightly “cramped” area is made up for by the comforting atmosphere of the food and staff.
The food came out relatively quickly (5-15min IIRC) and had a vast variety of dishes from the main choice of soup and onigiri (you can get more than one!), and the side dishes with tea, pickled vegetables, salted tofu, and extremely flavorful sliced turkey. I had the Tofu soup which had miso, a sizable tofu cube, and nori(seaweed). The dish was extremely filling and was really well balanced. My only qualm would be that getting the tofu soup with the tofu side dish is really filling and might be too similar in flavors. While slightly different, I’d recommend eating them after tasting a side dish as to cleanse your pallet. Nonetheless, the food was excellent!
While my group and I ate, the woman who had taken our orders told us about our dishes, and the varieties of miso used for the soups, as well as the other side dishes. Her interaction with us was very pleasant and informative, and made the experience that much better!
After my group left we were extremely satiated and happy. It was easily one of the best meals I had during my stay in Tokyo, and I would happily go back. I 100% recommend visiting if...
Read moreWent here for breakfast before visiting the shrine, and it was one of the best decisions we ever had. Not only is Asakusa an amazing place for the overall day trip, Misojyu made it even better. The staff is extremely friendly and engaging, as well as the menu accommodating for English and Japanese speakers. One of the staff even spoke to us about the different types of miso in the soup broths, as well as other information about our meals - she was amazingly friendly!
On top of all of that the food is amazing and gives great portion sizes. I’d recommend the set menus as the onigiri, soups, and sides worked really well together. The variety and flavors of the soup are really nice. The tofu soup was very light, yet filling, and didn’t make me feel weighed down. I had the salmon onigiri and it was a really nice addition, as well as the side dishes.
Not much of a criticism, but if you get the tofu soup set, you will still get a side of tofu with salt. While it wasn’t bad, it was hard for me to finish.
The inside of the restaurant is extremely comfortable and works with small groups (2-3 people). I really enjoyed the small, yet inviting bottom floor, and they seemed to have an upstairs as well.
Overall, the atmosphere, staff, and food were amazing. My brother and friend that I went with were similarly pleased with the experience, and we’d easily go back if we were in...
Read moreThe best soup and rice ball I have ever had in Japan! MISOJYU is super popular among my friends in Tokyo but seats are limited so there is always a line even on a weekday. The wait wasn’t too bad about 30 minutes (10 people in front of us).
The decor of MISOJYU is artsy and adorable with industrial plain wall. The ambiance is cozy and passionate because of friendly service.
You choose 1 soup and 1 rice ball for their regular set, we had Chunky Vege & Pork Tonjiru set with spicy tuna rice ball (¥1,380) and White Miso Soy & Scallop Potage with grilled salmon rice ball (¥1,380).
Everything is astonishingly amazingly, especially the white miso soy & scallop potage, delicious, thick and rich but not greasy at all. There was a great amount of ingredients with a variety braised in the soup as a healthy and light set. We also love their plain tofu, one of side in the set, the best tofu I have ever had in my life, super soft and creamy.
You can tell from all the details in your set how much the chef and staff care about & are proud of their food.
If you are a tourist and get tired of all the heavy food during traveling, MISOJYU is definitely the best choice to take a rest for...
