I love this library!!
The library itself is quite big, on the 6th floor of a mall, if I may say, and has so many good points.
The staff, even if I didn’t requested anything, seems very professional and always ready to help in case you’re looking for something specific.
The variety of books is incredible! No matter what you’re looking for, Books Kinokuniya Tokyo will have it. This is so convenient and pleasant to get all the best books from any subject you want.
And last but not least, right next to my favorite sections, there are a couple of chairs which are the only thing, after books, that I am always looking for! And they do have chairs to sit while reading!
Honestly, just for the chairs I would give a 6/5 rating, but unfortunately I can’t.
Oh and they’re opened almost all the day every single day. How amazing is that?
Anyway, I didn’t find any bad points in this library which I believe is one of the best, if not the best, in Tokyo.
I strongly recommend...
Read moreIf only imported books weren’t so expensive! For Japan, this place has a great selection of English-language books, from classic literature and more recent fiction to history, science, self-help, etc. etc. I particularly enjoy their well-stocked shelves of fantasy and sci-fi, which include both the series you’d expect, and also quite a few popular recent publications. It’s hard to resist bringing home a whole stack of books, but averaging around 2,000~3,000 yen each, it would be a bit much. The store also has sections for other foreign languages. (The French area looks especially extensive!)
Edit: Recently I’ve actually seen more books here at a slightly lower price! I’m not sure which of the factors mentioned in the response below might have shifted (maybe just my taste), but I’d recommend the store now...
Read moreVisited a few book stores around Tokyo hunting for English manga. While a couple places had some small English section, they were very small compared to this Kinokuniya! Honestly stepping into this store felt like I had found a small piece of home in Japan. They have so many manga titles, some commonly known others less so, and stock newly released manga too! They also have alot of English fiction/non-fiction books, with some French, Italian, and German books too. I even passed some popular French manga!
Honestly I am so so happy to have found this place. Sure the prices may be higher than in an English-language country (they do have to cover the import cost so it's understandable), but the selection for Japan is the best I've seen so far. Be sure to check it out if you're a bookworm...
