Overall it was ok, still a long long way to go. We booked for a private room with 25,000 baht deposit (which I thought was outrageous, but who am I to say, I was not the one who paid). Anyways, the restaurant itself looked nice and nothing to complain about that really. However, a waitress suddnely came in and informed my aunt (after we've had already ordered) that there is a min spending of 50,000 baht which we weren't aware of. It was not stated in the confirmation. This really left a bad taste in our mouth. We thought this was improper and rude for them to say in the middle of our meal. We told them how unfair this was. Of course, the staff had nothing to say, except for the fact that she will ask someone else to deal with it. Nothing else was said during the meal until the end where a staff member came to explain. She came to apologize and basically gave us a 'one time thing' as she called it, that we didn't have to reach the 50,000 baht min which we were glad about but now looking back the way she said 'one time thing' was not as good as it sounded back then. How can you interpret that, if not 'I'll let you of this time, but only this time'.

During the meal, there was a waitress in the room with us at all times. She was ok and here are my reasonings for the ok. she did explain to us about the menu but not well enough. I think since we are familiar with the restaurant, it was fine for us but I felt that there were some things that would have been beneficial to mention. and this was not only her but also other staff members as well. We went out our room to look at the oysters, and we just wanted some suggestions on which ones to get but they couldnt really say much about the oysters but the fact that 'P Fluke chose them all, so they're all good!" This is what the staff said. It was not helpful so we just chose the one with the promotion and the one they recommended the most (which also happened to be the most expensive one, they were both great) she did tell us about the promotion of the oysters but she did not tell us that it was only for one of the 5 or 6 oysters types. she did drop a cutlery and apologized but also picked it up with her hands (with gloves on) and immediately grabbed another plate of food to serve. she did make a lot of noise grabbing cutlery in the drawers.

Towards the end of the meal, there was this waitress who seemed to be in at a higher position came to talk to us, I along with 2 more person agreed that she was a little rude and too friendly for how the restaurant positions itself to be. Too friendly, meaning that she talked to us like we were friends and were not in fact customers?

Food wise, it was good, the prime rib was good. Although some stated that the gravy and yorkshire pudding were a little salty but some enjoyed them very well. overall the food was good but the only thing that I did not like that much was the creamed spinach. just not my cup of tea. did not order wine nor any other alcohol so cannot give any reviews on that. the creamed corn, which they advertised that it was made with thai corn tasted sweet and good. The only thing that bothered me was the plating of it. It came in a small plate, like a dessert plate which made it difficult to scoop up the corn. Actually for all the sides too. One of us ordered medium well for the prime rib and it was interesting to see how the chef cut a piece of meat and basically cooked it in the gravy which is heated in the cart. I thought that was cool And now here are some suggestions, please fix your reservation systems I have seen how the owner was promoting the restaurant, how the cart costed like 3 mil baht and how he invested almost 100 mil baht for it and I admire his passion for the restaurant but I wished that they would use the money to train the staff more honestly. Lastly, I hope that this review is informative for everyone, including the restaurant. I hope that the restaurant will take constructive feedbacks (not just mine) and improve soon and maybe we will go back...

I almost had the chance to dine at Lawry’s in Singapore but missed out due to time constraints. When I heard that a famous celebrity was bringing it to Bangkok, with an excellent location. The interior is more spacious than expected. The ambiance is much more luxurious than what you’d expect from an American-style restaurant.

I ordered the restaurant's signature roast beef, opting for the California Cut, 180g, which is just the right portion for one person. What caught my attention even more than the food was the steak cart. The large, silver cart, resembling a mini oven, was wheeled to the table, and the chef meticulously sliced the meat before serving it with mashed potatoes and sauce. I requested medium-rare, and the roast was cooked evenly throughout—tender and juicy, perfectly complemented by the sauce. However, I have a concern regarding the temperature of the meat. Despite having such an expensive meat-warming grill, the meat is not as warm as expected. The mashed potatoes were creamy, fragrant, and melted in the mouth, especially when paired with the Yorkshire pudding, a traditional Yorkshire-style bread. I couldn’t resist dipping it into the restaurant’s special butter that was originally served with the bread—it was divine!

Another highlight was the Whipped Cream Horseradish, which the staff recommended to cut through the richness of the meat. It had a delightful wasabi-like flavor with a clear kick to the nose. The black pepper and salt seasoning from Lawry's was superb, but the packaging didn’t match the restaurant's luxurious decor.

I was particularly impressed with the salad, served in a Spinning Bowl with ice underneath, while a female staff member spun the bowl in front of us. I was even more delighted when they served a chilled fork, giving a refreshing touch to the crisp, cold salad. The bread in the salad was delicious, and the dressing was perfectly balanced. Well..almost everything was perfect during the salad course, but I must point out the staff's handling of the utensils. When they gave me two cold forks, I initially assumed both were for me. It wasn’t until after I finished my salad that I realized the other one was meant for my friend. This was the first time I’ve encountered a situation where a staff member handed two utensils to a single guest, expecting them to pass one to a companion, even in a more casual restaurant. I found this quite confusing.

There were only two disappointments. I didn’t order the creamed spinach and creamed corn because I hadn’t realized they were available on the steak. They looked so appetizing but the staff did not offer any recommendations at all! Instead, I ordered grilled asparagus, which I found a bit plain for the price. In hindsight, I could have ordered both spinach and corn for the same price (I secretly think the restaurant should include all three side dishes shown on the cart in a set, rather than having them ordered separately).

The second issue was with the staff. While the overall service was ok, the staff showed effort in their work but still inexperienced and lacked confidence in recommending the menu. They spoke quickly without making eye contact with the customers. Also, while I was enjoying a conversation with a friend and sipping wine, my meat dish was still halfway finished when the staff reached out as if to clear the plate, even though I hadn't placed my knife and fork together yet. What’s really bothered me more was the reception staff. When I arrived, I took a photo in front of the restaurant, but the two female and one male staff members were busy chatting among themselves and ignored me as I walked by. I had to approach them and mention I was here to dine. I believe they should provide better training, especially to a female receptionist with a ponytail, bangs, glasses, and a black suit, as she didn’t pay any attention to the customers.

Overall, I’m grateful to the restaurant’s owner for bringing this legendary...

If you are here in 2024, don’t set your expectation too high. Not the experience you would expect from a Lawry’s establishment.

(update: Owners responded to my review on Facebook. They acknowledged the points I mentioned below and promised improvements. I have since pushed the stars rating up to two. My review still unchanged)

(Update 2: I just left Lawry’s Prime Rib Osaka. I just have to confirm with everyone that Thailand branch is still a total failure. Star dropped back to One.)

TL;DR: Too many customers. Severely understaffed. Services are totally unorganized. Foods are either a no-show, very slow, or too fast. Side dish portions are cute. Meh Prime Ribs, Workflow & customer experience standards have not been set. Kitchen team had to run around and help with serving. Forgettable experience and will not be returning.

We booked ahead and paid deposit. We arrived 10 minutes before our time slot. We got a table in a hole next to the kitchen door. Table cloth was black. It was as black as my experience here tonight.

Foods were “acceptable,” to say the least.

Signature rolling salad and its dressing is as advertised. Crunchy, rich, and chilled cool.

Welcome bread & butter was nothing special. Bread arrived dull and not warm. Butter was average.

Prime Ribs arrive after 30 minutes. My cut was a little thin but okay. My SO’s cut was dry and overcooked. Thank god mashed potato & gravy was splendid. Nothing special regarding the meat. 😑

We ordered four side dishes: two arrived ridiculously early we wondered if it was suppose to be for another table. The other two were forgotten and lost in a black hole until we almost finished with our main dish we attempted to track them down. A reminder was then sent to the kitchen. Phew. Glad we saved a portion of Prime Rib to enjoy with these two forgotten sides.

Service staffs worked their butts out and still could not keep up with the demand. The kitchen team has to help run the food out and sometimes serve on the table. One kitchen staff left the ENTIRE SERVING TRAY along with the bread basket. I was in awe and forgot to take a photo.

Professional.

I, however, did not vent, nor blame the staff, nor did I file an official complaint to the service team, because I knew they were severely overloaded way over their capacity.

All in all, my first introduction to Lawry’s was less than satisfactory. We spent 5,000 baht per person tonight. It is very very very disappointing when we consider what we get for this price.

I hope my detailed review will be appreciated by the mgmt team and hope they will reconsider their opening...

The service is incredible, the food delicious, and you can’t beat the ambience of the Grayson building. Five stars. This makes for a great date spots, and is easily gettable-to on the BTS.

- she did explain to us about the menu but not well enough. It was not helpful so we just chose the one with the promotion and the one they recommended the most (which also happened to be the most expensive one, they were both great) - she did tell us about the promotion of the oysters but she did not tell us that it was only for one of the 5 or 6 oysters types. - she did drop a cutlery and apologized but also picked it up with her hands (with gloves on) and immediately grabbed another plate of food to serve. - she did make a lot of noise grabbing cutlery in the drawers. Food wise, - it was good, the prime rib was good. Although some stated that the gravy and yorkshire pudding were a little salty but some enjoyed them very well. - overall the food was good but the only thing that I did not like that much was the creamed spinach. just not my cup of tea. - did not order wine nor any other alcohol so cannot give any reviews on that. - the creamed corn, which they advertised that it was made with thai corn tasted sweet and good. The only thing that bothered me was the plating of it. It came in a small plate, like a dessert plate which made it difficult to scoop up the corn. Actually for all the sides too. - One of us ordered medium well for the prime rib and it was interesting to see how the chef cut a piece of meat and basically cooked it in the gravy which is heated in the cart. I thought that was cool And now here are some suggestions, - please fix your reservation systems - I have seen how the owner was promoting the restaurant, how the cart costed like 3 mil baht and how he invested almost 100 mil baht for it and I admire his passion for the restaurant but I wished that they would use the money to train the staff more honestly. Lastly, I hope that this review is informative for everyone, including the restaurant. I hope that the restaurant will take constructive feedbacks (not just mine) and improve soon and maybe we will go back to dine again.

Overall, I’m grateful to the restaurant’s owner for bringing this legendary steakhouse to Bangkok!
