This is my second stint at UP, the first being in Jan 2020. I lost around 12kg before we went into lockdown two months later. Once out of lockdown I found I had a medical condition which put paid to my training for a couple of years. However, once given the all-clear to resume training again I thought I would try my local gym and sign-up with a PT there. Six months later I was not happy with my progress, or my trainer, so I took the decision to go back to UP, and I'm so glad I did. The Personal Trainers at UP are on a different level, from the first meeting with your assigned PT to discuss in depth your goals, to the regular check-ins to track progress and discuss how things are going, making adjustments if required to both the training plan and nutrition, everything is done to a professional and high-standard, and you know that you trainer is totally invested in you and your journey. My trainer Kai has been phenomenal, he has been supportive, encouraging and motivational from day one. I'm approaching a 10kg weight loss, but more than that my body shape is changing, my strength has improved immensely and both physically and mentally I'm in a much better place than when I first walked through the doors. Kai has a great knowledge of the science behind all the exercises and will explain in depth why we are doing an exercise, what muscles it will target and demonstrates the proper technique to ensure I get the best out of all the exercises. Kai will challenge me during our sessions because he wants me to succeed, but also has the empathy to understand if I'm not feeling great and will adjust the session accordingly. When I had a bit of a wobble, we sat down together and discussed everything and with his support, encouragement and genuine interest in my journey we have pushed on and I genuinely look forward to each training session with Kai and I'm looking forward to see what we can achieve in the coming months. Walking into UP, Cabot Place is like walking into a family, all the trainers know your name, you always get a warm welcome and everything about the place is super friendly. If in doubt, I would say give it a go, you will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have now done 3 rounds of 3-month training packages with UP and itās the best investment I have made in my health so far. Unlike many of the UP clients, my goal is not as much to lose weight as to gain muscle mass and strength. For my third round, the goal was to improve the deadlift technique and as always, my amazing trainer has delivered on this.
The trainers at UP are indeed world-class, as the adverts state. Having now been properly armed with a superb training programme and technical and nutritional knowledge, I go to my local bog-standard gym and often just end up shaking my head in disbelief when I see the local gym trainers with their clients. The time it took me once to do a circuit set of 3 exercises x 12 reps each with short breaks in between (about 15-20 mins), the trainer and his client did TWO sets of chest presses. The rest of the time the client was complaining about his work and his wife while the trainer was just nodding with a sad face. Never mind the idiotic exercised you sometimes see the trainers make their clients do.
You wonāt get this at UP. You pay premium buck, and you will get premium no-nonsense training. No one will be cutting you slack and if your idea of a personal trainer is a buddy you pay to listen to your moaning, then you are better off at your local gym. You also HAVE to go into UP training with the mindset that it will be hard and you will have to suffer ā on the gym floor and at home while counting your calories and consuming proper amounts of protein. If you donāt take care of your diet and train hard, you just won't shift your body composition. If you go with this in mind and are prepared to make sacrifices, know that you will achieve extraordinary results with the help of amazing...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHitting my late thirties, I've always been fit and active, but I'd long wanted to see what I could achieve through a fully focused transformation effort. When I saw UP had opened a gym near my office, I thought the time for saying I'll do it next year was over and i'd invest in myself...
8 weeks in, I've been blown away by what I've achieved. I've lost approx 6kg and halved my bodyfat to under 10%, whilst gaining a couple of kg of muscle at the same time. My physique has been totally transformed, none of my trousers fit and friends and family keep commenting on my improved appearance. I'm really motivated to see what I can continue to achieve in partnership with my PT - Ryan.
I can't commend Ryan highly enough. Our sessions are intense and laser focused - every rep is purposeful and done with proper form. When i use to train alone, i'd v rarely achieve that. The biggest thing i've learnt is on the nutrition side - i just didn't appreciate how easily i was overconsuming vs. what i was burning previously, which over time really adds up. Tracking the nutrition took some getting use to initially as i'd never done it before, but even in the calorie deficit stage, I learnt with just some basic planning i could get on top of it and genuinely couldn't claim to be hungry. It's been a genuine partnership with Ryan - i've really felt he is invested in my progress and success.
The whole environment in the gym with the other trainers and clients is collaborative and welcoming. There is very little ego.
In my experience if you put the effort in on your side - follow their guidance - the results will follow. It's been a great...
