Alaska Railroad Review – Gold Star Class Experience
We had an absolutely amazing experience with the Alaska Railroad and their tour services. From the very beginning, the customer service stood out — we live in Florida and spent close to two hours on the phone customizing our trip. The staff was patient, knowledgeable, and eager to help us create the perfect itinerary.
We chose to upgrade to Gold Star Class, and it was worth every penny. Meals on the train were included, along with unlimited soft drinks and two alcoholic beverages per person for each leg of the journey. The food was surprisingly good, and every staff member we encountered was friendly, professional, and clearly passionate about what they do.
Our route took us from Anchorage to Seward and Talkeetna, with periodic returns to Anchorage. We spent two nights in Talkeetna and loved every moment. The excursions we booked through Alaska Railroad were fantastic and perfectly coordinated with our travel schedule. They truly excel at helping guests customize their adventures.
We did encounter one small hiccup when weather prevented us from completing part of a glacier plane landing excursion. Initially, the refund didn’t appear on our credit card statement, but after one quick call to Alaska Railroad, they contacted the excursion provider and the refund was processed within four hours. That level of responsiveness really impressed us.
Overall, this is truly an A+ operation. The scenery was breathtaking, the service outstanding, and the whole trip felt seamless. I would highly recommend Alaska Railroad to anyone looking to experience the magic of Alaska in...
Read moreWe traveled from Anchorage to Seward to take a cruise tour of Resurrection Bay on Kenai Fjords Tour. The train and the tour company collaborate their timing together to make it possible to travel there by train, do the tour, and return by train without missing a beat. Suny, who was the barista on-board, was very personable and attentive. Genuinely kind. Kayla helped us board and stood out to us with how she connected with my teenage daughter. Just when you thought you saw the most beautiful sight you could ever see, the train would go through another canyon and you'd be wrong. Absolutely breath taking views of mountains, waterfalls, glaciers, wilderness, and fjords. In terms of comfort features, the train does not have wifi, and only certain seats have outlets next to them. If you need to charge your phone, or for someone with medical equipment that requires charging, it is possible. The train travels at a leisurely pace. We had one stop between Anchorage and Seward at Girdwood. There is also an observation car with panoramic windows you can sit in. They ask you to limit sitting there to 20 minutes so other guests can as well, but our train was about 1/4 full and people were able to sit there the whole time. They also have board...
Read moreRode this train from Anchorage to Whittier on July 16th. The ride itself was fine and enjoyable. However it's what happened at the end of the ride as we were getting ready to disembark at Whittier that I can only give this company 2 stars ...and maybe it should be just 1 star. As we pulled into the station, the person in charge of car 7 made the standard arrival announcements but then proceeded to tell everyone to remain seated after the train had stopped because she needed to help a disabled person off the train first. I'm not sure what her exact words were but it shocked both my wife and me as being very unprofessional and insulting to single this person out as being the cause for delay to everyone getting off the train. I'm sure this person was horrified for being singled out like this. If she would have just asked everyone to remain in their seats when the train stopped while the crew took care of some business, that would have been so much more professional. This employee needs to be reprimanded and provided with some...
