
I've been using this gym for the last 5-6 years. I've had plenty of good experiences throughout the length of my membership in the Anderson, SC location. I used to work out 3 times/wk and I would tan once or twice a week at the Anderson facility. I relocated jobs to Easley SC and began using their facility in Easley - I was shown amazing Customer Service and their cleanliness and willingness to ensure everything exceeded the customer's expectations was TOP TIER. I recently relocated jobs back to Anderson and regretfully began using their facility again for tanning. A couple weeks ago, I went in to tan, a girl scanned my phone, asked which bed I wanted (stand up or lay down). I told her I prefer stand up, but if they didn't have a stand up bed available then a lay down bed would be fine. She didn't acknowledge anything I said and just turned around and walked away. Literally about 3-4 mins later, a polite male employee walked over and asked if anyone had helped me yet. I told him I really was not sure because a girl asked which type of bed I wanted and then she just walked away and I hadn't seen her since. He apologized, (I believe) he went and found her, then came back and asked what type of bed I'd like. He then sent me to tan. Last week I went into the Anderson facility - same girl was at the counter & had the same attitude and miserable look on her face. She scanned my phone and asked which bed I'd like to lay in. I told her the same thing as before. She was taking her precious time at the computer and without even looking at me, said "I need to see your goggles" as she's still standing at her computer. I took them out and waved them and said "here they are." She obviously wasn't in a hurry to look then either so I said "here they are, do you see them??" She then cocked her head fast af and said "Excuse me?? What the attitude for?" I replied with "Everytime I come in here you have a terrible attitude. The last time I came in here I actually complained about it then." She said "we're not talking about last time, we're talking about right now." I said "Oh you don't want to talk about your attitude, but you want to talk about mine??" She still just stands there and then begins typing a book on her computer. I said "Ok, I need to lay in the tanning bed, I don't have time for this." She then proceeded to tell me that I was not going to lay in the tanning bed!!!! I asked for a manager AND GET THIS - SHE WAS THE MANAGER. She absolutely LOVED the fact that I asked for a manager and she was able to say "I'm the manager." So all of these responses on each and every complaint in the reviews, can basically guarantee that any complaint will not be handled in a professional manner or even be dealt with. I asked for her name and she mumbled her name "Makayla." I said "Makayla?" She then began to sound out her name and annunciate it like "MI-KAY-LA." She's a miserable person who has no business being in a customer service position or a job in general with the way she drags her feet in everything she does. I understand that my "attitude" could have provoked her to be ill towards me as well, but being in a customer service role and BEING A MEMBER OF MANAGEMENT, her behavior is unacceptable. How she became a manager and still has a job with this company is beyond me. Especially since reading previous reviews with her name specifically being complained about. Planet Fitness, you need to choose better employees.
**updating to say that I went in to tan today and was greeted with kind, smiling faces and great customer service from the girl named Faith and the other guy who has been there for a while. THATāS the customer service you need at a front desk and running an establishment. My plan was to go in and cancel my membership today if I had to see Makayla again, but as long as I receive this kind of customer service, Iāll continue giving my business to them and Iāll continue sending people their way - as I always have. But something needs to be done about this so...

Well early this year I decided I was going to cancel my membership because it wasn't doable at the time. I was then told by the location I was at I can only cancel at my home center a good few hours away from me. I hadn't even lived in that area for over a year at the time. I was finally in the city yesterday and was able to cancel my membership. Today I got a charge for 39 dollars to my account, their annual fee. I called inquiring about this charge as I had literally cancelled the day before receiving a document saying I had no balance due, (naively I think this means I owe nothing and am good to go). The manager on duty told me that the policy is you must cancel the 25th of the month prior or the fee will be charged either way. I hadn't used a Planet Fitness Gym since maybe March (Iprobably longer, I really don't even remember how long). I get that things happen and there are policies but honestly not being able to refund the annual fee is ridiculous and the manager wasn't very helpful. Her responses sounded rehearsed and like they have to say this all the time. None of this is her fault but as a company Planet Fitness does not care about their customers. If they did refunding a 39 dollar fee shouldn't be a big deal. I certainly will not be returning ever again. If you don't mind blowing money every month then they are certainly the place for you because they will make it as difficult as possible to cancel and charge you anyway when you do. Maybe one day they'll be more inclined to caring for their customers then just the money in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI moved here from Atlanta and this is the worst Planet Fitness that I've been to. The staff is nice and that's the only reason for the two star instead of one. The water fountain cooling unit has been broken and putting out warm water for a month which is making people nauseous while working out, multiple machines are out of commission and have shown no signs of getting fixed, they have almost no AC and these tanning beds are the most antiquated machines I've seen in years. I repeat, the tanning beds are extremely old, nowhere near the same models used at other Planet Fitness's, they get extremely unbearably hot, and instead of having fans inside the beds like in Atlanta they have one big fan at the end that only cools your feet. It was a miserable and downright frightening experience and my back was in excruciating pain from the bed getting way too hot. If the local people around here had ever been to a different Planet Fitness, there is no way this would have so many good reviews.
Update: Planet Fitness keeps coming on here telling us they're sorry and asking if we told anyone about this stuff like they weren't aware and it's our fault for not telling someone. I told them about the issues and the nice and honest staff members said they've put in tons of work orders for everything I said and nothing ever gets...
