Rude staff, awkward interaction. Left a bad taste in our mouths.
My wife and I were walking around downtown on a Sunday afternoonāNovember 9. My sister had introduced us to Truffle Pig earlier and so we decided to make a stop to check out their selection.
First off there's no ramp or easy accessibility to the front door, so I had to carry my newborn's stroller up the stairs to the front door. If you're in a wheelchair, or have mobility issues, I don't think there's an easy way to get inside.
Once inside we started to browse and look around. It is a cool shop with lots to take in. After about three minutes in the store I hear a small crashāuh ohāit sounded like glass breaking. I looked over at the source and see that it was my wife, and she had mistakingly and accidentally knocked over a Xmas ornament that was sitting on a very low table, in an over-flowed box with many other round Xmas ornaments. Again, total accident and could've happened to anyone. She was embarrassed and felt really bad, understandable, but it was how the staff member working that day handled it that made it so awkward and un-sympathetic.
My wife apologized, and stayed near the glass to ensure no one would step on it while the staff member huffed and puffed a bit and went to go look for a broom or dust bin. While looking for something to clean the glass up with the staff member said something along the lines of, "well, you can pay for it, if you want. It's $5." It wasn't so much what the staff member said, but the passive aggressive tone in which she said it, as if to say, "you should be more careful."
Again, these 'cheap' ornaments were not displayed somewhere that makes them safe and out of harms way, rather, they are literally 16 inches off the ground in an over-flowed box, and if anyone walks by with a long coat that could accidentally brush up against the merchandise, or not paying super careful attention to the narrow walkways in a crowded store, it could easily happen.
My wife didn't want to feel bad or have bad karma so she did pay the suggested $5 for the ornament. She felt bad, like it could come out of the employees salary, and she didn't want that.
Mistakes happen. A small cheap ornament breaking shouldn't imply the customer is stupid or did it maliciously. The staff member could've handled that much better in my opinion, and because of that interaction I don't see us going there ever again. There are much nicer store fronts around downtown we'll choose to shop at...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreI stopped into this consignment store recently and was initially impressed by the selection and layout. They have a decent variety of vintage and designer items, which makes it a fun place to browse. However, I feel itās important to share a concern that came up during my visit.
I came across what was labeled as a 1990s Coach purseāsomething Iām fairly familiar withāand unfortunately, after inspecting the details (stitching, hardware, āleatherā, and creed stamp), I realized it was a counterfeit. I even snapped photos and had it authenticated online as I was hoping it was real. So BUYER BEWARE!
I understand that with consignment inventory, it can be hard to authenticate every item, but when it comes to vintage designer pieces, accuracy and transparency are key. Selling counterfeits, even unintentionally, damages buyer trust and can have legal...
