Thurston Woodworks — Local services in Black Mountain

Had a very awkward space to fill in our new home in black mountain. When driving through the town months ago we noticed the woodwork shop and thought he might be able to help. I provided the dimensions and viola we have a beautiful cedar chest. Superior craftsmanship. Also the turn around was about 2 weeks. Really didn't expect that.

Finally, and ironically, I saw the review of his business regarding the vaccinated folks who said he was super rude to them in the store. I was actually present at that very same visit and their description is NOT how it happened. I don't understand folks who review negatively based on a perceived experience and didn't actually have any business done. I digress... I love the work and I'm sure I'll be back...

Visited this shop Sunday with my husband and a sign was on the door indicating “masks required if not vaccinated.” My husband and I both entered without a mask since we have both been vaccinated. The man in the shop (I assume Rick) rudely admonished us about the sign on the door even though we were following the instructions even carrying our vaccination cards with us. HOWEVER, the irony is that he stood there without a mask. Newsflash: the mask mandate applies to you too, Rick!!! How do your customers know that you have been vaccinated? Way to welcome tourists into your “shop.” Thankfully, the other Black Mountain shop owners use the same sign, follow the guidelines and provide a pleasant...

I purchased a cutting board from Thurston Woodworks that actually was crafted by DC Woodworking in Montreat, NC. The day before I randomly walked into his shop inquiring about his work and that's when I saw the collection of cutting boards. The next day AFTER his store closed, he allowed me to enter since he was still working on an other order and i purchased a Ambrosia Maple and Walnut (red heart) cutting board. Great customer service and I would love to purchase more work...
