The reimagined Goldfinch is stunning! I had eaten there many times before and was eager to check out their new look and menu….wow. It was a lovely evening and we ate on the patio. When the falafel came to our table I thought for a moment I was in Brooklyn….the plate was like a miniature work of art. The two large patties were on a swirl of delicious yogurt sauce, with a curvy drizzle of honey and some herb flecked oil…..so lovely. And SO delicious. Perfectly balanced. I left not a drop nor a crumb. The table next (in a very correct, socially distanced way) to ours heard our moaning and told us they had eaten there the previous night and had come back to have the house salad again…they loved it so much. I feel that way about the falafel…I will order it every time! The courtyard is spacious and graceful….it invites you to relax and enjoy being taken care of by the charming staff. It is such a luxury to have a menu full of choices that are designed to be primarily vegetarian. You can certainly add in an animal protein, but each dish is complete without it….plenty of flavor and texture and pizzaz without meat. Many choices are also vegan. The roasted veg and bahn mi bowls were great. I tried a raspberry shrub…..so perfectly tart and sparkly, totally satisfying for a non drinker…. and my companion enjoyed one of her favorite IPA’s …Surf Wax. We finished our meal by sharing the Lavender Ganache….amazing dark chocolate bliss!!! Can’t...
Read moreGoldfinch is located on Cherry Street which is the large patio with the big tree. We were greeted by Amber with her joyful, fairylike personality. She seated us immediately and provided sambal coated almonds while we decided on drinks and food.
VIBE The patio has a casual ambiance with great music. If you ask nicely, they’ll share the Spotify playlists with you. The patio is dog friendly and beautifully lit in the evenings. They also have a very cool interior area where you can chill and have drinks, the interior area reminds me of a speakeasy.
DRINKS I had a Black Dahlia which is a charcoal infused gin, rose syrup, lemon, and egg white. Jackie does an awesome job mixing drinks. My drink had a light, refreshing flavor. My BF got a mule with Tito’s vodka, it was also good.
FOOD The tacos were flavorful! I enjoy tacos with corn tortillas and Goldfinch does it right. We ordered the jerk chicken and carnitas tacos, both were delicious, Amber offered a pineapple salsa(?) to drizzle on top and it brought the flavors out even more. To balance it out we had the house salad with salmon and it’s my current favorite salad. Compliments to the chef, whose name escapes me.
We extended our stay in Black Mountain because we love the vibe and especially enjoy coming to...
Read moreHave not yet tried so I'll reserve an actual review for when I do. I just wanted to share with others that this place closes during winter. They didn't update their google hours, their website and on site signage make zero mention of it being closed during winter.
We left Asheville to come here for dinner on our way home so very disappointed and having to dig to find an alternative with certain options. Please put a notice on your site and update your hours on google! I hope to try your food soon!
Edit: I left a 4 star review from the start to ensure it did not negatively affect this business and as stated initially, only wanted to alert others that it was closed temporarily. That said, the response of the owner is unappreciated and it's put a bad taste in my mouth so I have no intention of visiting. I do hope others will still visit as I've heard good things about the food and service. I just personally had an all around bad experience with going out of the way to find it closed and then getting a response that I understand comes from a place of pain through a difficult situation, but certainly made me feel as if it was intended to guilt me into...
