I arrived quite late on a Saturday- within 30 minutes of their closing time. I’d called earlier that afternoon to inquire, and the proprietor said they even try to sharpen knives the same day, especially if there is just one knife. I arrived so late that I wasn’t expecting any such service… but the proprietor did not complain a whit- he only very graciously took my knife to sharpen (for a reasonable price), then wrapped it in a cardboard sheaf for greater safety on my trip home.
While there at the shop, I took the opportunity to purchase a second paring knife (for friends to use, since they sometimes offer to help prepare a meal while visiting). And then Blackstone’s proprietors gave me some suggestions of where I might like to celebrate my unexpectedly productive and pleasant late afternoon with a dinner out (which is likewise lovely, btw!).
I would just want to correct any listing online that states Blackstone’s offers classes: They apparently haven’t for the past year or so, due to COVID concerns, I learned today, and the proprietor said they don’t have a kitchen on the premises. So that info just needs to be corrected (at least, for...
Read moreKitchenWares is a great resource. It's located in one of Boston's most expensive shopping streets, usually not a place to look for deals. But KitchenWares is perfectly stocked with items of all prices. I went in looking for a soup ladle, and the manager showed me a nice strong one for $20. That's kind of expensive for a soup ladle (though I'm sure it would last you forever)! He then showed me a great collection of sizes, all for around $5. That's more of my price! I poked around the shop and was able to snag all sorts of things…a squirt bottle (for syrup or oils?) for $1.50, a set of beautiful measuring spoons (pricier at $15, but strong stainless steel with engraved numbers), and an offset spatula ($6, for all your frosting needs).
I could have spent a million more dollars, but thought my fiancé might be mad. The store is beautiful, not too cramped, and stocked to the ceilings with all sorts of ktichenwares. I'll be back to look at their gorgeous collection of...
Read moreJudgmental and rude staff. You will be judged from the moment you walk in the door. You could have a millions of dollars to spend, but if you don’t “look the part” then it won’t matter. Your greeting and the service provided to you will depend on how you look. I have tried to visit this store multiple times to give it a chance but each time I’m served with nasty looks directed my way, snarky comments, and just and overall unwelcoming feeling directed from staff.
The items in the store are cute and can all be found else where, some are from larger companies and other smaller companies. I would much rather support those companies directly and likely receive a better service where my business feels welcomed and where my worth isn’t judged based on appearance.
When I came online to look to see if others had the same experience, I was shocked to see none on Google. But at last I found others who had similar issues. Peep yelp for...
