I never write reviews, but today was my last straw.
I have been a member of this specific gym since 2022. It used to be an amazing gym, and I was ready to pay any price for it. Fast forward to 2024, and it went downhill to the point of no return. I even canceled my membership for four months in 2023, but they came back to me with an offer, and I thought to give them a second chance. That was my biggest mistake.
I’ve had multiple issues with them charging me extra and giving me misleading information about charges. They never take accountability for their actions. It’s quite the opposite. The management tells you a million reasons why you never got the money in the first place. I had to request for my credits to be applied to my account twice, and it took them two months to do it. Extremely rude and ignorant managers. I can say that Jack Massari was always the only one who went back and forth to make my experience great. Can't say the same thing about others. Don’t forget about the 12-month obligation. I knew about it and was prepared for it. Management now uses it as an excuse to charge you the full price when you freeze the membership. So you freeze your membership, and they still charge you the full price for the frozen month. They then say you'll get your money back by the 13th month (as credits). Why would I freeze it in the first place? It is supposed to be a premium gym, but the way they do business is not better than any other gym in the area. I would say even worse. Shower gels, shampoos, and cleansers - all diluted with water. To the point where all of those products are unusable. Even if I wanted to use it, I would never be able to. If you can't afford it, it would be better to put the most basic shampoo in the bottle. But to put 30% shampoo and 70% water seems like a mockery for the price we pay. I wanted to book a one-on-one Pilates class, and their trainer came back to me with available slots. The funny part is that she sent those dates to me a month after I requested the session. Then the day I was supposed to have my session (a month later), she sent me an email saying she double booked and asked me to reschedule. It happens, but is it professional when it took two months to schedule it in the first place? All basic things need to be replaced. I started bringing towels with me from home, because their towels looked like someone mopped the floor with them. Hair dryers are almost non existent, as it’s going to take you an hour to dry your hair with it.
The only good thing I can say about Equinox Seaport is its gym staff. Every single trainer is amazing and extremely professional. Pilates class with Olivia is unbeatable and the only thing that...
Read moreReally felt the need to write this review so maybe someone could get an unbiased opinion. Is this the worst gym Ive ever been to? No. Is this the worst luxury gym that you have to pay $230/mo for that i’ve ever been to? Actually yes.
Let me start with the good so I can highlight some things that were nice: Gym equipment looks clean and the place is spacious. Good area in seaport close to everything. The lotion, face cleanser and body care was a great touch in the women’s locker room and smelled amazing. Nice lounge area right by the workout section in case you need to work or study RIGHT after your session?? Lol
Okay unfortunately that may be it. For the negatives, I want to preface I did get a free trial as I am new to the area. Immediately upon entering the front desk staff asked if I have been before and when I said no, instead of showing me around, they just said “third floor, locker room to right, gym on left”. Okay I don’t love a tour anyway but would like to be more comfortable with the setting and just felt super dismissed. #2 they chose to clean the gym at probably the busiest time on a Saturday morning. I do love a clean gym but for wires to cross OVER the squat rack WHILE SOMEONE WAS SQUATTING was actually really funny and just seemed so unnecessary especially when the gym was super busy already. -#3 if they want to argue “we clean all the time no matter if it’s busy because we want it to be a luxury experience” i would argue the showers in the women’s locker room, though nice and up to date, were riddled with hair and some pink substance through the tiles (not shampoo because that was white), and again, for $230/mo I would maybe like a cleaner space to clean my body. -#4 the juice bar that they advertise was closed. Not sure if it is all the time but the perfect time to be open seems to be a Saturday morning after all the classes get out and it seems if it’s not open at the busiest time… is it ever?
Overall this was a super busy gym, cardio equipment is great and new and I'm sure the classes are well run, but the staff was not friendly, not enough machines for the amount of people AND you do have to pay for parking AFTER validation (goes from $42 to $6.25- but again… i am already paying $230/mo and if I go every day, that adds up). I would skip this gym honestly and spend your money on an independent yoga studio, cycling class or something of that nature if that is the pull. Otherwise if you are going to lift- there are plenty others that are cheaper and likely more worth...
Read moreI just learned Equinox Seaport released one of the best personal trainers they had, Jaskee. He was the only male trainer who cleaned up weights and actively walked around conversing with new and seasoned members. He’s certainly the only trainer that’s ever come up and spoken to me. The bulk of the other male trainers never wore their masks during Covid, they train as a little group, they don’t ever clean up and their generally unfriendly. The one trainer that was friendly, helpful, and extremely fit, Equinox decides to let go of? I can’t stand this gym but there aren’t other options. There’s no accountability here. They let guys bring their gym bags onto the floor, drop weights, shadow box, yell and generally do whatever they want without ever keeping people in check or kicking them out. During Covid, after Adam left, only a couple of the trainers wore masks and masks certainly weren’t enforced by management who cast a blind eye. Machines are getting rusty and poorly maintained, there’s also a surprising deficit of advanced leg training equipment. This gym is also super busy because there’s no other options in the area. The new assistant manager is awesome, he should replace the...
