Update: I appreciate the response and offer to help make my next trip better, which is indicative of a business that cares. Raised my rating to reflect that and look forward to trying them again.
Original Review: I stopped in here this weekend for the first time. I'm fairly new to crocheting, and have done a few afghans with yarn I've grabbed from Michael's. A few of the crochet web groups I'm in always talk about fancy, all natural yarn so I was excited to stumble across this shop. I walked in and other than a woman in the back doing one-on-one with another lady (think it was a class or creative session), I appeared to be the only customer in the store. There were what appeared to be two employees who were photographing a finished piece, and trying to maneuver their dogs out of the way. My "welcome" was an offhand comment about how they didn't want the dog in the shot. I even bent down to pet the dog and comment on its cuteness, in the hopes that would open them up to talking to me. No dice.
I was shocked at the prices of the yarn. I saw a lot of $28/skein price tags. But I realize that buying blended acrylic yarn with 50% off coupons from the craft store is a far cry from hand-dyed cotton yarn from Germany, so it's likely normal for the quality you get. If I wanted to make a shawl or scarf for my mother I'd justify paying the higher price for great quality yarn.
To the other poster who commented on the dog smell- you're not alone. I smelled it too, and it was off-putting. Maybe not pee, but a distinctive "dog" aroma filled the store. Maybe I'm just super sensitive to it, but I even commented to my husband (before reading reviews of this shop) that I was so excited to find the store, but so grossed out by the dog smell inside.
Overall this store has so much potential, but it fell really flat for me. My first impression was a sour one. I could have coped with the smell and the prices. But for a small-town shop with no other customers I really expected it to be more welcoming. A simple "hi", questions about what I was looking for, if I knit or crocheted (or both), or even the smallest of small talk would have gone a long way towards endearing me...
Read moreSIMPLY AMAZING. Best yarn shop in the triangle. Friendly and helpful owner. Wondrous assortment of yarns. The whole 9 yards!
I am your stereotypical introverted WFH homebody type of gal AND I actually look forward to coming in and shopping for my next project. I dread going shopping and I usually avoid salespeople and all eye contact with anyone in public like the plague but there’s something different about this store! The owner is always interested in what I’m making, always has recommendations as to what yarn to get, and loves talking about future projects for inspiration. She is a delight (and I usually do not delight in the company of strangers). All of the other customers in there are also a treat. Cute elderly ladies and others sharing in a common hobby. Everyone is so nice to chat with and I always leave the store in a better mood than when I entered.
Also, huge bonus is that they offer free cake winding as long as the shop isn’t too busy. Enjoy the company and continuing to touch all the yarns while you wait :)
Can’t say enough good things about...
Read moreI don't typically write reviews, but feel compelled in this case. I went to this shop for the first time to pick up some nice yarn as a gift for a friend. I was initially greeted pleasantly, but as I was browsing, the employee started talking - loudly - to another woman (maybe an employee?) about a phone conversation she had just had with her "least favorite customer ever." She went into quite a bit of detail about how annoying and unreasonable this person was, though from my perspective, it only seemed like she was frustrated and confused. Regardless, I was horrified that a business person would insult a customer over and over while another customer was shopping. The employee even tried to loop me into this pile-on. I was planning on buying yarn for my friend and also hoped to find something nice for my next project. Instead, I purchased the gift yarn and got out as fast as I could. In hindsight, I wish I had walked out without buying anything. That was my first and last experience with...
