Almost forgot to leave a review on this place. I came for the first time on the evening of Oct 20, 2023 (reservation saved on email) and Ameen comes out with a very dry attitude asks for my name twice, then just points me to walk to the very back of salon. I had to ask where I could put my jacket and he just points at the seat where they polish shoes, really unprofessional and nasty accommodation and attitude but I thought whatever so far.

He asks how I want my hair, I said same haircut I already had just shorter (obviously right?) I tell him I like my top length so just to take off like an inch on top . He asks how much off I want from sides, I was like idk how much do u recommend, and he goes “if you’re taking an inch off top I recommend and inch on sides too. My sides were like 5 inches long! I look at my hair and say maybe like an inch and a half. Mind you I was very intimidated the whole time so even saying something different than his opinion was hard. I tell him I have a side part style now but I also slick it back sometimes and that I want for it to look good both ways, he says he can do that and starts cutting.

He asks where I got my last haircut done, my last haircut was done like 3 months prior in Mexico with a very professional, sweet, friendly, hairstylist of mine that owns her own salon and has been a stylist for years, my hair was looking beautiful even after 3 months. And he goes oh, it’s just it’s a little uneven and they left too much density on back part. I think okay definitely not uneven maybe extra density on back part sure let’s see how he does. He starts cutting without parting my hair, barely even holding it up to cut, he just passes scissors through my hair just as it’s sitting.

I ask if I’m gonna be able to slick it back, just because I see he is cutting way more on right side then left side. He goes “do you have any worries brother? You’re in one of the best spots of Chicago.” In a very dry dirty tone. It was dark and I was the only customer, I felt very intimidated by his response so I go: oh no I just wanted to make sure I had told you that before.

He finishes cutting and my hair barely looks like it had a change, the back and sides were still so long nobody at work could tell I had gotten a haircut, the only thing he cut right was the top, but for the very dirty attitude and unhappy moments while there and after plus paying 50 bucks on top (I tipped back some first time discount), I felt robbed without a gun. And money is not even the issue, it’s the money I paid to be mistreated and leave with pretty much no haircut, wasted time, and unhappy. I didn’t tell him to cut back and sides again because with his previous aggressive responses it was just too intimidating to tell him it’s not what I expected. Ameen should learn to treat people nicer and stop being so arrogant if he’s gonna keep working in the PERSONAL CARE INDUSTRY/ Customer Service. Normally I don’t do reviews like this, but this one is well deserved.

It’s a bummer because I loved how nice the salon is, but it took one barber to ruin it for me and make me not want to come back.

It was my first time a Goodman’s today. I had never had a fresh shave from anyone, so I spoiled myself with a razor shave, and Facial. I booked online, and ended up with Yousef. He was quiet, but extremely friendly. I am hairstylist as well, so it was nice to sit there, getting pampered without the small talk. When I tell you, it was one of the nicest experiences I have ever had, that is an understatement. Yousef started with my razor, beard clean up. I was scared, knowing he could cut my Jugular at any moment. Lol. I trusted him completely. He was gentle, and made me feel very comfortable. After the shave, I’m not going to lie, I didn’t want to get a facial in front of Chicago Av in broad daylight. I was surprised when he brought me to an extremely calming spa/type space. I was relaxed, and at ease. He is the man! The facial was rejuvenating, and so relaxing. He could be a little heavier handed though(I love a deep scrub), but it was completely relaxing. After What seemed like 7 rounds of hot towels on my face,(loved every minute), I passed out. It’s hard for me to calm down, always anxious. This beautiful place made me feel at ease. I work at a 5 star hair salon, and we pride ourselves on customer service, and professionalism. I walked out of this amazing space wondering if we should team up. Lol. I can’t rememeber the last time I have a top notch service like that. 20/10, unbelievable. I’m so glad I found this Beaut! Also Yousef, you are GREAT at...

After coming here a couple of times, I’ll say Goodman’s will not disappoint! Today is a perfect example of why.

I was tired of the large chain haircuts where you pay $25 for a 10 min haircut that looks terrible. So I looked for a solid barber shop with good reviews across multiple staff. My schedule’s a bit crazy so sometimes, like tonight, I’ve got to get a last min haircut.

Came in for the final slot at 8:30 with John on a Friday night. I felt bad for holding someone back on a Friday, but his approach to the cut showed that this is where he wanted to be. Got a low part pompadour done exactly how I wanted with great recommendations along the way. Between the clippers, scissor, and razor, everything was on point. I think I’m at that point where quality and attention to detail are what matters the most. John delivered that and more. As a relatively shy guy who tries to be extroverted, it’s always great to have a barber who can balance the conversation between listening and picking up the convo at the right moments.

For something like this, a term like “customer service” feels like it devalues the actual service. But I’ll tell you, the service you get here is amazing. The prices are steep, a bit too high for someone on my paycheck. But it’s now the easiest bill and tip I’ll make all month.
