Smart Columbus Experience Center — Local services in Columbus

During June 2016, the City of Columbus became the U.S. Department of Transportation's "Smart City." Since then, Columbus has received $50 million in grant funding from the federal government [and from other sources] to develop Columbus into a "test track" for intelligent transportation systems.

That means that, soon, driver-less vehicles will roam parts of Columbus, access to electric vehicle charging stations will increase, and more cars will be able to communicate with traffic signals and with other transportation infrastructure.

On June 30, 2018, the Smart Columbus Experience Center opened in a first-floor space at the north end of one of the very few triangular parking garages in Columbus. That triangular parking garage had been one of the four parking garages that had been operated by the former Lazarus department store in downtown Columbus.
