This place is hands down one of the best fast service casual restaurants in downtown Columbus, as well as many times better than the other hot-dog-based establishment in the half-mile radius
Food: The hot dogs at Tasty Dawg are wonderful. They have great flavor and texture, and I've never encountered any sort of quality or freshness issues with the (pretzel!) buns or other ingredients. The owner (and most if not all of the employees I've met) are kind and friendly.
The other food, mac and cheese bowls (with hot dogs added) and ice cream, are both excellent as well. I think there might be a salad option and some other things as well, but I've never had them. The ice cream is Perry's, and the 10? flavors seem to rotate as Tasty Dawg runs through them.
Service: Service is great. As previously mentioned, employees are nice and typically chatty if you want to be chatty. There's never a long wait for food even when other people are there. Great for both take-out and eat-in, and if you eat in and don't finish then they're always able to give you a take-out container for your leftovers.
Atmosphere: Notably, and extremely positively, Tasty Dawg is very visible supporter of queer and other minority communities. I believe that they hire under-housed or otherwise down-on-their-luck folks, and are absolutely a gem in our local community.
The decor is a bit eclectic, like you might expect of a diner (though without the booths), bright colors and kid-friendly props, including a human-sized hot dog statue thing at the door. The decor doesn't take away anything at all due to the fast-casual nature...
Read moreNot so "tasty." Walked in and the girl at the counter immediately asked me to put on a mask (not required where I live, or places I frequent, so sorry). No problem. Ordered the South of the Border Dawg, with no avacado. I asked the girl which side she thought was better-the old bay tots or white cheddar mac. Was met with an awkward blank stare. Finally, the older lady (very nice) working register said the mac, so I went with that. You can see in the photo what I got. I went back up to the counter to the original girl to say wasn't I supposed to get all of the listed stuff on the dog? She seemed to be ignoring me-had to say excuse me several times loudly until the older lady came from the back. They remade my order, but still no shredded lettuce, a scant few leafs of cilantro, and NOT crema sauce-a large amount of plain sour cream. Girl who I assume is the manger also added a double chocolate cookie. Nice, I thought; until I tried to eat it with my coffee this morning. It is a hard hockey puck. Threw it away after one nearly tooth breaking bite. Bottom line: unless they get some better customer service and menu live up to what is advertised,...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Tasty Dawg recently, and I was thoroughly impressed. The food was delicious, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was inviting. I started my meal with a Taco dog. The dog was perfectly grilled and loaded with all the fixings. The bun was soft and fresh, and the whole thing was just mouthwatering. For my main course, I had the mac and cheese. It was creamy, cheesy, and perfectly seasoned. The portion was generous, and I left feeling completely satisfied. The service at Tasty Dawg was also top-notch. Staff was attentive and knowledgeable, and they made sure we had everything we needed. He was also very friendly and made us feel welcome. The atmosphere at Tasty Dawg is casual and relaxed. It's a great place to meet friends for a quick bite or to enjoy a leisurely meal. Overall, I had a fantastic experience at Tasty Dawg.
