It is with a heavy heart that I write this review. I am so incredibly disappointed in James (owner). I have been a loyal customer to Pura Vida for almost four years. My hairstylist highly recommended James for my bridal hair. I booked a bridal consultation with James back in July, I was very excited to get the process started. He mentioned he may have a conflict for my wedding date but he said could make it work and verbally agreed. Fast forward to September, I reach out to the salon to confirm that James can still in fact do my hair, the salon says they will get back to me and I have to continually follow up. I am able to get James cell so I text him and ask if he can do my hair for my wedding on two separate occasions no response. I call to setup a hair trial with James and my appointment is confirmed with James. I show up the morning of my hair trial only to find out James is not there and I am put with another stylist. My hair does not turn out how I’d imagined, I should have voiced my unhappiness but I let it go because James agreed to do another trial at no charge since he couldn’t be there (after the matter). I continue to follow up and try to confirm from James but to no avail. Finally last week I was at the salon for my regular haircut and I ask Bobbi if he could please ask James if he is doing my hair for my wedding (I am 3 months out for my wedding). James comes up to to me as I am getting my hair cut and tells me he can’t do my hair for my wedding. I was shocked at the way the dialogue went. No apologies, again no apologies or the slightest bit of remorse only offers up other hair stylist so I can do trials with and see who might work best, while casually mentioning some of the stylist have minimums that need to be met. I have expressed to James that I was willing to pay for his minimum despite not meeting it if it met I got the best. Clearly that wasn’t even enough. Read moreI had an appointment with Glynnis scheduled one week prior specifically on a specified date and time and with whom my appointment was to be scheduled. I scheduled with her based on referrals, and I was already hesitant since I'm very particular on who I have work on my hair. PARKING - if not informed, you will drive around a couple of times before realizing it is in the garage, but there are designated spots for the salon. ACCESS - front door is visible and right off of Mckinney Ave. I arrived on time for my appointment and the young lady at the front desk greeted me right away and asked with whom was my appointment. I told her it was with Glynnis, and she mentioned she had not arrived yet, but would check on her availability. After an obvious phone call, she mentioned that my appointment with Glynnis was supposed to be in Colorado Springs. I corrected her and showed her my confirmation via email that clearly said my appointment was in fact in Dallas on Mckinney Ave. The young lady got back on the phone to speak with Glynnis and told me she's not sure how the miscommunication happened, but Glynnis was on her way back to Colorado Springs, which is an hour behind, so 1 o’clock had already happened over there if she was so exact about our appointment!! Glynnis obviously had no regard for my appointment and will perhaps have no regard for this review, but for potential new clients - BEWARE! Albeit, the young lady did try to set me up with someone else at the last minute, but was unsuccessful. Read moreI’m a 57 year old guy, so do the math and I’ve had well over 500 haircuts already. I’ve also lived in lots of different places, so I’ve had a long list of hair stylists. Hands down, Pura Vida is the best salon that I’ve ever been to. Starting with the first visit, where James took the time to understand my goals, through every visit where he asks how things are going and what type of changes I want to make.
James DeFrange is outstanding at what he does. He takes the info you share with him, and creates amazing results with scissors and technique. I recently made a significant change in style, and James took the time to text me to ensure I was pleased with the results. I was having trouble replicating what he had done, so he took the time to have me come in and demonstrated exactly what I had to do. James is seriously focused on client satisfaction.
