Atmosphere is a casual beautiful. There's different sections of the restaurant with different atmospheres. There's parts of the restaurant that look like you're out on a cobblestone pavement with beautiful foliage around, another where it looks like you're in cozy Italian city, and there's also an outdoor patio.
Servers were great. Accommodating, friendly, anticipates our needs.
Prices are a little higher ($19 for a big plate of salmon bagel with fruit, $13 for a whole waffle topped with whipped cream and fresh cut strawberries, and $15 cold brew old fashioned) but you're paying for the atmosphere and the quality of the food.
Despite this being in Dallas and having a nice atmosphere, the food is actually good. I didn't expect my salmon bagel to fill me up but it did. Very meaty, they packed the salmon on it. It was also topped with red onion and what looks like mini olive seeds, comes with cream cheese. The bagel was a nice crispy exterior. The salmon does get a little salty after awhile. The fruit was sweet and refreshing, very complimentary to the bagel and acted like a palate cleanser after the salty salmon.
The chicken fried steak topped with jalapeno gravy, diced potatoes, and over easy egg was amazing. Tasted wonderful. The chicken fried steak was pretty big. Everything on that plate tasted great. My spouse loved it and said he would come back and order this again.
The waffle is where I gotta give my compliments. We had our waffle split between the two of us so that way we each get our own plate. The waffle itself (without any butter, syrup, whipped cream, strawberry) tasted GREAT. It was fluffy, bouncy, had a nice sweet but not too sweet taste to it. And then when you top if off with the whipped cream and the fresh strawberry.. oh my lord you are in heaven. The Whipped cream isn't some cheap whipped cream you find from a can, it seems like they make their own house whipped cream. It's not too sweet and somewhat heavy but tasted soo good along with the strawberry. Syrup adds a little something extra. I would highly recommend the strawberry and whipped cream waffle to someone and would definitely order it again. Hell I would order a plain waffle and add some additional fruit to it. It's that good. Probably one of the best quality waffles I've ever had. The waffle also wasn't burnt or greasy. It was perfection.
My spouse had the cold brew old fashioned and it tasted stronger as you get to the bottom of the cup. He said it killed him. He said it felt like they gave him a double shot and it was worth he money ($15).
Parking is hard to find. There is some free parallel parking that you can find alongside the streets of the apartments. There is paid for parking behind he building. A lot of people walk to get ...
Read moreI am visiting family here for the winter and I bought my brother who lives up the street and a friend who was visiting from Canada around Thanksgiving.
Atmosphere: You walk in and see beautiful cakes and other pastries you can buy at a counter that draws in you in. People also were ordering take out so you smelled the food right as you walk in and out stomachs were growling. We waited for our host to seat someone before us were just taking it all in because the night before we had horrible service at sports bar the night before. We were sat inside and the building was beautiful with these brick walls and plants. Every photo we took the background looked so cute and aesthetic.
Parking: no comment as we walked there
Service: After having a bad experience at a sports club the night before, we were nervous walking in but literally everyone said hello and we instantly had smiles on our faces. The server (wish i remembered her name and when we go back this weekend I hope she is working!) was so spectacular. I am a person who likes options so I was asking like most popular item vs her favorite. She had an honest answer for everything and I really appreciated the honesty because she mentioned it was just her opinion. I am a server and understand upselling so if that was the intent, the way she described the most expensive French toast had my mouth watering. It was personable and not just describing what came in the plate. We had some jokes and she came by multiple times to fill up our water and ask our honest opinion on the food multiple times. When the bill came and you have the awkward moment of tipping in the machine in front of them, I didn’t even feel weird about tipping over 20%. We felt so welcomed there by her (I want to say she had brown hair. Curly or wavy?😫) anyway, she was amazing to the point we talked about her even after we left. I am going back with another friend who is visiting from Canada for Christmas. Miss my bestie who know we are besties
Food: Since we had a bad experience the night before we had low hopes and WOW. Day and night- food was hot and every thing on the plate had its own flavor. Everything she recommended was so so good. We took our leftovers to go and warmed it up and it was still good! We didn’t get anything but water.
Price: my bill was higher because I ordered the most expensive French toast with a side waffle and add-ons. She split our bill but I cannot remember the price but it was higher but I didn’t even care because it was completely worth it.
Can’t wait...
Read moreBreadwinners Uptown was our go to place to grab breakfast after long grueling hours at work. Unfortunately, my recent visit was the worst experience I have ever had as I encountered an incredibly rude, unprofessional hostess/manager.
I went there for breakfast/brunch after work to meet a group of friends at 8AM on a Sunday morning. Unbeknown to me, nobody made a reservation for our group, and the rest of the group were not there yet. The hostess/manager placed us on a waiting list and told us that she won’t seat us until everybody is there. Understandably, we agreed because it is a Sunday and also, brunch is their focal point. After a while, members of our group started arriving, and some are minutes away. At that time (8:45 AM), there were a few customers that came in, and you can count how many there were with all the fingers on both hands. We politely asked again if we could at least sit and start ordering since some of us have to leave early anyway, and then those who came later can fill in the seats. The manager/hostess was adamant that she cannot sit us because of how busy they CAN BE during the brunch rush. Then, she gave us two options, either we wait for our entire party, or those that need to leave can have a table. We opted for the latter since we were on a time crunch.
Our server (he was good by the way) sat us at a table, where he took our drink/ food orders. Then the hostess/ manager came around the corner YELLING at us that we could not sit at THAT table, where he (our server) had sat us, and she insisted that we move. This was all happening while she sat another party at the adjacent table. SO AWKWARD. Our server apologized and said: “…she's my boss, so I have to do what she says…" That same table we initially sat remained EMPTY until we left at 9:15AM.
As for food, I ordered my usual which was the avocado toast, and a chai latte. Both which I typically enjoyed, but after that whole ordeal, I’d say the food alright/unremarkable.
Maybe it was me asking the hostess/manager again if we can have a table? Or maybe I just don’t fit in the typical Uptown Dallas brunchers? Maybe it’s Maybelline? Who knows?
I’ve dined at places with however many stars they want their names attached, and those that have none but yet so humble and simple. But, Congratulations Bread Winners, as this is a first for me. I have NEVER EVER been yelled at while dining in a restaurant. Needless to say, this is the last time I will ever step foot at your establishment again. It was fun until I was...
