I work in the immediate vicinity of The Quarter Bar, and I've been heading over here after work once or twice a week for the last couple of months. That alone ought to say a lot.
The first thing that drew me here was that I've never heard music blaring from The Quarter. They have music playing, but it's nowhere near overwhelming. The atmosphere is cool and calm, matching the sister restaurant Bread Winners next door. Fist pumpers, please go elsewhere; you have plenty of choices further south on McKinney Avenue.
The bar situated in what appears to be an old house, probably from the early twentieth century. Lots of Victorian decor. They have an excellent rooftop patio that's open until 01:30, and an equally amazing atrium on the lower floor that's open until 02:00. Smoking is permitted in the outdoor areas.
There's more to do than drink at The Quarter. They have juke boxes with a limitless selection of songs. There's two - one upstairs and one downstairs, playing in those respective levels. Upstairs features a fully equipped pool room. Both levels have massive Connect 4 games. There's an abundance of flat screen televisions showing sports highlights (I'm sure they play live games during the day/evening, but I'm never off work early enough to see).
They have a pretty good selection of beers, and the stuff they have on tap seems to rotate every few months. Unfortunately, I can't speak for their hard liquor or mixed drinks.
What keeps me coming back is the staff, though. They're all excellent people who are good at their jobs. I work a very visible job in the area and they've all remembered me by name and wave hello as I go by during working hours. Once I walk in, everyone has a handshake and hello, from the doorman to the big boss Be warned, though: just because they work at a kicked back bar doesn't mean you can screw around and nothing will happen. These are the most fair guys I've ever seen, and will squash a drunk with a bad attitude in a heartbeat. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
In a mixed blessing, there's plenty of opportunities for transit around The Quarter. There's always a boatload of taxis sitting outside on Friday and Saturday nights, and the free M-Line trolley has one stop about half a block away (McKinney Ave. and Hall St.; in between Barter bar/restaurant and Cafe Express restaurant) and another just to the west (Cole Ave. and Hall St.). Tell your motorman (the person driving the trolley) where you're going and they'll point out the best stop for you. You can ride the trolley from Cityplace station to Cole and Hall in less than ten minutes under normal circumstances.
As long as The Quarter has good beers and one of the best relaxed rooftop scenes in town, I'll keep going back. Write me down as a very...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreAs a guest for Bread Winners, we were suggested to grab a drink at Quarter (bar) while we waited to get seated. We thought that this was a great idea so we went to the bar. We approached the bar and the bar tender looked as if he was not having it today. We didnāt get greeted at all and he never looked at us as he continued to clean cups. We ordered a Sangria and before we mentioned our next drink ( a mimosa ) he mentioned that they donāt do sangrias. He stayed quiet and never mentioned an alternative drink in order to keep our business. Keep in mind that he never once looked at us. We thought so far it was bad service already and we decided to leave.
I then called to make a complaint to the manager and he ended up being the MANAGER! I canāt believe that a manager would give such service to their customers. I would never recommend this place to any of my friends. He didnāt even tried to make it up to us....
