Before signing up for the 200 HR Axis Yoga Teacher Training, I attended the practicum presentations of the Fall 2018 graduating class and was very impressed with the students’ knowledge of yoga beyond asana. The students were fully prepared for their practicums and lead us through yoga philosophy/theory, asana, pranayama, and meditation - it was in that moment that I knew that this program was the one for me. After the practicums, I was able to talk with Derik and submitted my application the next day!
My initial hesitation came from Axis not being affiliated with a specific yoga studio in Denver, although they have several partnerships with yoga-based organizations throughout Denver, such as Yoga For The People and Newport Street Retreat. The program prepared me to develop my own sequences, theme classes thoughfully, and teach yoga to people of all abilities - I do not necessarily know if a studio-environment would have provided me with these skills.
Derik and Brenna are the real deal and care deeply about sharing their love of yoga and each of us developing a daily home practice. I’ve developed a completely new relationship with myself after completing this training and attribute this to the number of personal experiments we completed as a part of the curriculum. For example, we did a Yama/Niyama experiment, an Ayurveda experiment, and I also completed Brenna’s 14-Day Spring Cleanse. The time commitment worked great with my schedule and allowed me to take my yoga off the mat and into my life - I will continue to integrate Derik and Brenna’s teachings into my life post-graduation.
I highly recommend Axis Yoga Teacher Training for anyone wanting to focus on classical teachings and dive deep into the psychology of yoga - this program goes WAY beyond the asana and will transform you...
Read moreWhile searching for yoga teacher trainings I stumbled upon Denver Yoga Underground online and I have to admit that I felt pretty intimidated. Their website was very informative and concise about what the program was (and wasn't) and I could sense the deep respect they had for yoga beyond asana and knew that they required a lot of serious dedication from their students. At first this made me a bit nervous and made me reconsider whether teacher training was even a path that I wanted to pursue, I didn’t quite feel like I could overcome the challenge and commitment at the time. After some soul searching and some things that started popping up in my life, I couldn’t deny that this was a part of my path that I was meant to embrace and walk upon. After talking with Derik on the phone and attending one of his classes I knew that this was the right school for me; not only did he share many of my viewpoints on yoga and the world at large I could tell that he had a wealth of knowledge and experience. I am so glad that I signed up for and completed the 200 hour course! This has impacted me in ways that will continue to resonate for the rest of my life! Not only has it taught me a lot of the deeper aspects of yoga and asana, the process as a whole has given me great strength and confidence in all aspects of my life and personal relationships. I feel more connected to my true self and have a better understanding of my place in the universe. I am forever grateful for what I have learned from my time with Denver Yoga Underground! I would recommend this program to anyone who is serious about personal growth and willing to put in the work.
Thank you for the support Derik, Brenna,...
Read moreIt's hard to put into words all that I received from DYU's 200 hour YTT. I moved to Denver under very difficult circumstances, and was questioning my decision until I enrolled in this program – and now I firmly believe I found exactly what I needed, or perhaps it found me. DYU's no-frills, "underground" setting and curriculum was far more enriching than I expected, and there is a well-rounded balance of asana, theory, and meditation/pranayama. I couldn't have asked for better teachers – Derik, Beth, Tushta, and Brenna are incredibly wise, compassionate, and dedicated to their students. I learned so much from them and only wish I had time to learn more, especially from the teachers we didn't get to spend as much time with. Additionally, the level of support and care I received took me by surprise, which is so important to me as I live with chronic illness. I found that the majority of expectations were self-imposed and that -my- yoga had to involve taking care of myself as things came up; DYU absolutely gave me the space and community to do that, and I know I have a home here for...
