I was displeased after my service because I arrived during the 15 min grace period for a 12pm appointment, but I feel my service was rushed because the next appointment was already there when I arrived at 1209pm. I specifically booked online for sugar waxing but the esthetician switched techniques in the middle of my service from surgaring to pulling strips of wax to rush my service. For clean up I was offered a wet wash cloth and left to clean up myself.I have since developed folliculitis and have required antibiotics. The process itself wasn't painful, but rushed to accommodate another customer as if I wasn't important as a first time customer. No residual hairs were plucked, the mirror was not offered to ensure my satisfaction, and no after care instructions given. To top it off I realized later that I was over charged. I paid 10.00 to book online so my fee should have been 50.00 not 60.00 and not to mention I tipped the esthetician out of thankfulness for having a virtually pain free service. I was hoping to love going to a black owned business getting an upscale sevice but my experience ended with infected hair follicles and being overcharged. I know nothing about waxing but i expected after care instructions and being told what to watch out for. I don't think I will be returning to Velvet for future services
Follow up to my original review... I would like to thank you for your response that has come some 6 weeks after my review and even longer since my service. I am a health care provider in which i would have never come to receive a service if I had a issue brewing with my hair follicles, I am not a perpetual shaver, nor have I ever had an issue before. Besides that I am fully aware that any time you open a area of skin there is a possibility for infection to occur. While it may not have been preventable after care instructions for caring for the waxed area, signs to indicate a problem, or even a follow up call to new clients to your establishment or waxing in general would have been nice to have. You mentioned that you had already refunded my deposit but that strikes me as odd being we have not spoken, nor has there been any credit to my account from your place of business. You also mentioned taking a closer look at my skin but usually this is carried out before providing a service to ensure the service is safe to perform and I would hope your esthetician would have been sure to do so even if rushing the service and before making a choice to switch techniques mid procedure. I am not looking to discredit your work just the manner in which it was provided and to be honest about my experience. I will still stand by the fact that my service was still virtually pain free. The wealth of great reviews is what led me to choose your establishment and my desire to spend my money in a small business within my neighboring community. I did not contact you directly because the loss of 10.00 is none to great for me to be troubled over. I hope my experience will not be the experience for any future customers and maybe this will spur conversation and training to improve customer satisfaction. Be blessed...
Read moreI'm new in town and decided to give this place a try because it has five stars. At first glance, the place was kind of cute, but upon entering wax room 2, I felt different. Room had barely anything in it, ceiling tiles were worn and brown in the corners and the walls dingy. I ask for a sugaring and it was literally the worst wax type experience I've ever had. I'm not sure if it was because the woman was new. But my appointment was at 1, and I left at about 2:15. Also the longest wax type experience I've ever had. She began with sugaring, then finished with wax because it was too "difficult to get the hair" as well painful for me, but I was charged full sugaring price. Normally I wouldn't mind, but as I got home my girlfriend pointed out the patch of hair in the right corner of my bikini area, AND I had asked to get the top of the back before I left because people normally forget it, and she STILL didn't get it. $68.90 for a wax, and I get it because I work for tips too but for you to charge that much and not do a good job, as well as charging for sugaring while you actually waxed too was pretty unprofessional. There wasn't even any paper towel in the bathroom. AT A PLACE WHERE THEY CHARGE $70 A WAX. Definitely won't be visiting again, and I wouldn't recommend to anyone. I would have just settled for someone else to maybe finish off what she didn't, instead of writing this review but they won't even answer the phone. Spend your...
Read moreVelvet was so nice and patient. She was very professional and made my visit an easy one! I got the sugar wax and let me tell you...the sugar wax compared to the regular wax was such a breeze. I got my regular wax from a different business who seemed to be inexperienced. They pushed for promos more than they did for customer satisfaction. She waxed the same area multiple times and still left several hairs everywhere. Needless to say I left feeling disappointed, so when I found Velvet online I was expecting some of those same things I had previously experienced. However, from the time I walked in and walked out, my experience there was nothing short of amazing. She was prompt and ready to go as soon as I walked in. She talked me through the process, periodically asking if I was okay and even made sure she got every single strand of hair visible to the eye. It was quick and painless. I’ve even already pre-booked her for my next appointment, which should explain how well my first appointment actually went. Issa regular...
