While I’m sure it’s a much smoother time shopping in the physical locations their online store experience is severely lacking. I’ve never used Shop Pay before and when I went to select the option to buy with Shop Pay I assumed it would take me to a cart to check out, but instead it automatically purchased the item and I didn’t realize at the time that it selected the default size which was a small. I’m 6’2 so I was attempting to purchase an XXL. I also ordered an ‘ie faitaga. I had to make 2 separate purchases due to the Shop Pay mishap. I contacted the store and they seemed understanding about the situation and agreed to combine the orders and refund me shipping on one. Amazing. However, when the items arrived the shirt was a size Small and the ‘ie faitaga didn’t fit. As someone who’s never worn one before it was not apparent to me to go up a size to have a longer belt to thread through the buckle. Something that might be worth mentioning on the website which I later saw noted on other websites that sell them. I opened refund requests for both items with the intention of ordering the correct sizes and exchanging the items, one of which I didn’t even try on for obvious reasons. The shirt was considered ‘final sale’ and they refused to refund or exchange it. I paid for return shipping on the ‘ie faitaga and did not purchase replacement items out of frustration over the return policy. I’m now stuck with this small shirt. I hope the $20 you got out of me was worth the negative review and losing a...
Read moreI spent almost $200 at their Aiea location Wednesday night buying some cute outfits for my sisters back home (Utah). I ended up needing to exchange one top for the correct size, but had no time to go right away. Friday while shopping at Ala Moana mall with my mom (who lives here) I decided to exchange the top at this location since I was already there and done with all my shopping. Older Asian looking women who was the cashier at the time kept telling me that it was wet under the arms of the top?? Ummmm….my mom and I felt it and didn’t feel or see anything. Mind you I never even tried it on because these are gifts and not for me. I assured her that it was not worn at all and that I was actually buying it for my sister who wanted a smaller size. This top had its original tags, receipt & no stains whatsoever. I was so confused, shocked and embarrassed because she kept on insisting that the top was worn and wet under the arm area while examining it over and over. I honestly thought she was going to bust out a magnifying glass and UV light just to be sure. I’m much bigger than my sister so it would not make any sense for me to try it on or even wear it. My mom had to come over and confirm I never wore or tried on the top and got super irritated with the cashier before the cashier was able to do the exchange. I know she was probably just trying to do her job, but she also made me feel like...
Read moreAs a regular to the former Ohana Hale Marketplace, I'd often get distracted by the striking Polynesian/Pacific Island prints and jewel-toned fabric apparel at Tanoa Hawai'i while en route to one of the many eateries. I was impressed by their massive inventory of men's, women's, and children's basic or essential styles, but their Polynesian designs drew my eyes to their clothing. Tanoa Hawai'i also offers handmade or artisan-made accessories to complete your look.
However, I detoured to Ala Moana Center while on my way home from a walk in Waikīkī and discovered Tanoa Hawai'i had opened a storefront on Level 3 next door to No'eau Designers. I walked in and got a delightful eyeful of Polynesian apparel. The staff was amicable and attentive, and the prices were quite reasonable. Although I didn't buy anything from the store on the day, I stopped in because I was returning from a brisk walk to Waikīkī Beach through Ala Moana to Kaka'ako. Still, I plan to return for the gorgeous Swing Tunic ($55.95) or Flutter Top ($45.95) from their Tiana Collection that caught my eye.
Welcome to Ala Moana Center, and I think you'll find Tanoa Hawai'i has appealing Pacific Island dress or casual wear for...
