Poi Bowl is a solid choice for a quick, satisfying meal in Ala Moana, offering a delicious, locally inspired take on a Hawaiian classic. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

In depth review:

Poi Bowl in Ala Moana offers a fresh take on classic Hawaiian comfort food. Their Loco Moco features a base of rice and smooth, earthy poi that complements the savory elements of the dish.

The hamburger patty is juicy and well-seasoned, with a tender, not overly thick texture. The fried egg is perfectly cooked, with a runny yolk that blends into the gravy. The gravy itself is lighter, letting the other ingredients shine without overwhelming the dish.

The portion size is generous but not over the top, and it’s reasonably priced for the quality. The dish is balanced, flavorful,...

For a mall food court takeout line food establishment, this place is pretty good. They focus on local kine grindz plate lunches. They have classic Hawaiian and to mixed culture dishes that get tossed into the mix.

If you want classic lau lau, kalua pork and cabbage, to chicken long rice, local style beef stew or a gut filling loco moco, Poi Bowl has it all. Even some Filipino classics like tripe stew and pork guisantes. You can get a mixed plate of local favorites or order ala carte if you have a favorite dish.

It is still mall food, but tasty and hot. They give decent servings, so you won't go hungry for sure. However, if you are on a diet, probably not the best place to go unless you are on a cheat day.

Support a local business and avoid the corporate chains. This place is going to give you a good meal and you won't be...

We got our food off of DoorDash, I’m a local and I am very picky with my Hawaiian style food. 10/10 with the laulau it’s not just pork it is real laulau with fish in it not too much kalo leaf I love the stem and they had that. Hot and ready to eat! My husband got the loco moco, now it’s his place to go next time we visit. He said it was the best loco moco he had in his life! My son is not a pork eater but loved the Kalua pork and rice. I’m picky with my chicken long rice I would say 8/10 cause it needs more ginger and green onion but it was still soooo good! We got kanak attacks after eating it. The poi just want to add in here is a bit too runny for me but still good. 👍🏻 and the last part the lomi salmon that one was a bit too salty but still 10/10 ! This is true local food and I will be back to try the...

This trip to Oahu was my chance to tackle the food courts at AMC as it was an extended, non-vacay stay. ATMOSPHERE: Located inside the bustling Makai Market food court, they share indoor communal seating with close to 30 other eateries. MENU: Hawaiian and local Hawaii fare served on a hot foods line. FOOD: 3 Choice Combo I chose chicken adobo, chicken long rice, BBQ chicken, and mac salad. Both chicken dishes were made with four bone-in thighs, with the adobo version being my favorite. The BBQ one tasted more like shoyu chicken and was pretty dry. The chicken long rice was okay as it wasn’t very gingery nor loaded with chicken. The mac salad was good. Huge portions! SERVICE: Counter service was friendly and quick. OVERALL: Not bad. I may try the Hawaiian dishes another time.

Poi Bowl has been at Ala Moana a really long time. I remember because I worked at Ala Moana for a good number of years and it was always there. It’s good to know some businesses are still around but in order to stay that way you gotta have good reasons for people to keep coming back. Unfortunately offering another scoop of rice when the mac salad ran out isn’t going to cut it. Especially when paying $18 for a plate with a piece of dried hamburger. The curry with it was decent, the potatoes were cooked good and the plate had a decent amount meat but considering the price, it’s not enough to bring me back I’m sorry to say. Just my honest opinion.
