Like others have mentioned — the pizza is great, but the service is lacking. There are two entrances into Home Slice and when you walk in you’re not sure whether you walk straight to the counter to order of if you sit and there’s table service. No one tries to help you either. For people who came in the back entrance we had to repeatedly direct them to the front to order because otherwise they would just be left standing in front of our table. I was basically the hostess for Home Slice during lunch that day. And as someone else mentioned the man with the beard was rude. He made sure to service the table behind us checking on them repeatedly, but he completely ignored our table. We were finally acknowledged by the gentleman with locs and I appreciated his service. We love the Austin location and have been going for years so we’re familiar with the Tried and True. We got the pepperoni and mushroom pie and it was delicious — not as good as Austin, but so close it’ll satisfy your craving. The interior design is kitschy and has a 70s vibe with signed autographs from celebrities on the walls. There’s even a Lionel Richie painting on the wall outside of the restaurant. There’s both indoor and outdoor seating. There’s bar seating for people ordering a slice on their lunch break, booths just big enough to seat a couple, and booths large enough for parties of four. There is next to no street parking outside of the restaurant so your best bet will be to park at the garage half a block down Travis and before Holman. I’m not sure I’ll return and will probably just drive to Austin for the real thing because if I’m paying $22 + tax, tip, AND parking for just a medium pepperoni pizza I expect better service. Since we also ordered a meatball sub and three drinks the total came out to $60. We were waiting for this Home Slice location to open since the beginning of the pandemic. This was such a huge let down!

The atmosphere is unique and very downtown. The service is excellent. The pizza is some of the best pizza I have ever had. the price is fair for the size of the large pizza. During this visit we got a salad and it comes out to be a Caesar salad which was very fresh, crisp and Hardy. We got two large pizzas for our party of eight which was more than enough. The first pizza was pepperoni. All those and mushrooms which everybody loved. That was perfect. The second pizza was pepperoni and sausage which the sausage pieces are quite large and that pizza was very heavy compared to the first pizza. The drinks that we got were one root beer, one Mexican cola at the majority of us got black cherry drinks. Which were very good with the black cherry but they were sweet and the mostly tasted like syrup but the kids loved them. The root beer was unique cuz you didn't taste anything like at first it was like water but then at the end that's when you taste the root beer and it taste like root beer candy almost. The Mexican cola was right on. It was very good. Very sweet but it did taste like Mexican cola. These were all drinks that they have there in house they make themselves. For our group of eight, two large pizzas, one with two toppings and one with three toppings and 8 fountain drinks. I have one small salad. Was 109 and change not including tip.. to feed that many people downtown, I want to say it was a fair price and the food was very good. We weren't able to finish all the pizza. We did bring a lot of it home. The slices are very large. The pizza itself is very large. If you go there on your own for lunch I think one slice with a drink would be okay. Even if you go on a date both of you can one slice each and a drink and I feel that that itself should be very filling. Due to the size of the slices.

Home Slice Pizza originated in Austin (3 locations). A location has opened in Houston's Midtown within the last few months. The parking situation is a nightmare. But, that is typical of the area (it is next door to Breakfast Klub). The outside of Home Slice is kind of kooky. The inside is super cute. There is indoor and outdoor seating. All of the staff were so nice. They seemed genuine. All of the food comes out pretty quickly. We started out with the cheese calzone (mozzarella and ricotta) with marinara. That blend of cheeses is reeeeally nice, and the dough is dreamy. Great combination. The marinara is so good that I bought extra to take home. Then we tried the pepperoni Sicilian pizza. Let me say: the photo does not do justice to the enormity of this pizza. It is gigantic. There is a description on the menu to describe what to expect of this pizza. It's square, with a thicker crust with crispy edges. It was okay. Honestly, I was underwhelmed with this one. After splitting the calzone, we were only able to eat one piece of the Sicilian pizza. We took the rest home. Pizza always makes great leftovers! I ate my half for 2 days! On the way out, the pizza on the table next to us caught our eyes. We asked about it, and they informed us that it was the clam pizza. They admitted that it sounds odd but confirmed that it was delicious. We will certainly be back to try more!

Happy to finally say that Midtown has a phenomenal NY Style pizza place - Home Slice!

Menu: So far I have tried the Margherita/Sausage Ricotta and Roasted Red Pepper/Pepperoni and Mushroom pizzas. Their crust is consistently delicious where the exterior is crisp, yet the crust is light and pillowy allowing for superior folding techniques. Each large slice has the appropriate amount of topping to cheese/sauce ratio too! The Insalata Caprese is a tasty fresh appetizer loaded with thick hunks of Mozzarella. If you want to indulge your sweet side, I was a huge fan of the Cannoli as the mascarpone cream filling they use has a light hint of cinnamon to compliment the chocolate and pistachios.

Atmosphere: You can tell they poured a lot of love into the refresh of this building as it looks nothing like it used to with the previous restaurant. The outside covered patio is huge with unique custom architecture, sculptures, lighting, graffiti art, and fun seating wonderful for families or groups. Once you walk through their custom-made doors to the inside counters, you get an expansive view of the pizza oven and by-the-slice options. The booth seating inside is very romantic and would be great for a casual date night. Bathrooms are usually tough to keep clean but theirs are immaculate!

Parking: Their actual lot is very small, however there are a multitude of other options. If available, you can park on Winbern but you need to check the meters depending what time of day you park. The EASIEST ample parking is in the Mid Main garage. It’s actually free for the first 15 minutes – great if you are picking up a to-go order! After that it is a minimal charge per hour and no one ever thinks to park on the basement level which is just a short walk over to Home Slice. Big trucks that have trouble parallel parking will have no issues here.

Convenience: There is a walk-up window for ordering quick slices or desserts as you go which is great if you are seeing a show at the Continental Club next door. When you walk inside, it is a quick order-at-the-counter where they accept cash or card. You can also order online ahead of time for the whole menu, even including drinks to go like local beers or a soda. Once your order is ready, they bring it out and yell the name taken for the order. Kudos on their very convenient and fast service!

I think it’s safe to say that while Home Slice has a home in Austin, it very much belongs in Midtown Houston and is here...
