I booked a fishing trip in December 2021 as a Christmas present for my husband and his brother to go fishing with Reel Alaska Fishing Charters/Scott Edgar in July 2022 while we were in port on a cruise. This was a trip of a lifetime and intended to be a one in a lifetime fishing experience for my husband & his brother. We traveled to Alaska from SC and will probably never be able to afford the trip again as we are now in our 60âs and retired. When we arrived in Ketchikan that morning, I received a pop-up message that the fishing trip had been cancelled with no explanation. I tried to call Scott, he did not answer or return my calls, or respond to my text messages to the phone number where I had called and texted him over the prior 6 months. I had spoken with Scott by telephone on several occasions between Dec 2021 and July 2022 and everything was in order- including the $80 worth of fishing licenses I purchased for this fishing trip. My last conversation with Scott was about 2 weeks before our trip and I confirmed with him that I had purchased the fishing licenses. The last minute cancellation did not allow time to rebook a fishing trip with another charter. I paid for the trip in December, so over $1000 I paid for 1/2 day of fishing was effectively loaned interest free for 8 months. Did a higher paying opportunity come along when there were 3 cruise ships in port and my trip got cancelled because I booked so far in advance and during the winter months when he needed money? He didnât call and ask to âshareâ the charter with others who fished that day. We would have been happy to share the charter. I canât say for sure, but I do know an opportunity of a lifetime was missed and I am extremely unhappy and totally embarrassed that I gave a gift to my husband and brother-in-law that turned out to be a sham.
REPLY TO YOUR RESPONSE: I am truly sorry you were short handed due to COVID, and I hope and pray you are well. I donât know who left you a vile message, but it was not me. Do you know who left the vile message? I never received any reason for your cancellation- not from you or Viator. When I called Viator to ask about why the trip was cancelled (because I did not get an answer when I called you) they said you did not provide a reason. Your post responding to this review is the only communication I have received since the cancellation. I only received a âpop upâ notice from Viator the morning of the fishing trip saying the trip was cancelled. When I had planned a âbucket listâ fishing trip as a gift for my husband, surely you can understand how upset I was that morning and how disappointed I remain. Your post says you received messages as you âcame back inâ that afternoon and were able to get reception. I do not see anything rude in my text messages to you. I understand you donât like the low rating and need to try justify not calling or texting me by accusing me of being rude, but even though I was extremely disappointed and upset over the last minute cancellation, I do not believe I was rude. I might have been crying, but Iâm not one who yells or says rude things. Money/refund is not the issue here, the last minute cancellation with no explanation or suggested alternative arrangements was the issue, together with the lack of communication or even at least an apology. You mentioned email notice of cancellation, but I did not receive any email notice -only the pop up âyour trip has been cancelledâ when weâd arrived in Ketchikan that morning. Iâm pretty sure you had my cell phone number because I had a text from you about 2 weeks before we left home for Alaska. I am sorry I had to leave this review to get any communication from you. I cry every time friends ask about our trip to Alaska and my husband says that he didnât get to go on the fishing trip he had been looking forward to since Christmas. I spoke to you several times by phone after booking the fishing trip. I think you know how excited I was and that I am not a mean person, just a wife who wanted to give her husband a...
Read moreTitle: Extremely Disappointing Experience with Capt Scott Edgar Unreliable and Unprofessional
Rating: â ââââ
I recently had the unfortunate experience of booking a fishing charter with Capt Scott Edgar from Reel Alaska Fishing Charters, and I must say it was an absolute disaster. I am compelled to share my frustrating encounter to warn others about the unprofessionalism and lack of reliability displayed by Capt Scott Edgar.
To begin with, the communication with Capt Scott Edgar was abysmal. He was terrible at keeping track of email communications and rarely replied back in a timely manner, if at all. It felt like pulling teeth to get any information or clarification regarding the charter. This lack of responsiveness was both unhelpful and highly unprofessional.
What's worse is that Capt Scott Edgar canceled the charter out of the blue, leaving me stranded and extremely disappointed. There was absolutely no prior indication or warning that such a cancellation would occur. It was a complete surprise and a major inconvenience for all of us who had planned and eagerly anticipated this fishing trip.
It was evident that customer satisfaction was not a priority for him, and he did not seem to care about the negative impact his actions had on our experience.
I would strongly advise anyone considering Reel Alaska Fishing Charters to think twice before booking with Capt Scott Edgar. The unreliability, poor communication, and unprofessional behavior demonstrated by him make for an incredibly frustrating and disappointing experience. There are plenty of other charter options available with professionals who prioritize customer service and satisfaction. Save yourself the headache and choose a more reliable and customer-focused charter company instead.
I sincerely hope that Capt Scott Edgar takes this review as constructive feedback and works on improving his communication skills and professionalism for the sake of...
Read moreVery disappointed! there were six of us who booked a fishing charter, while on an Alaska Cruise. We all feel like we paid $2900 for a boat ride instead of a fishing charter. Our guide Colby, seemed was nice but kept insisting that we drop our lines to hit bottom them crank 3-4 times up. My husband and brother in law both decided that they would not follow this and they caught 4 Halibut. The rest of us who followed the guides instructions did not catch anything. At the same time the sister boat was always near us, they were also people off our cruise but were supposed to only be a 4 hour charter. Our charter was for a full day. After 2 hours Colby said we were going to start Salmon fishing. We caught 6, we wanted to keep going over the area where the Dalon were hitting. But Colby said that we needed to start back. My husband told him several times that we did not need to be back until 3:00 or 3:15 since the ship was not to leave until 3:30. Colby mentioned that he needed to take his boat in to have it checked for maintenance. We all felt so let down and short changed on this fishing trip. I am so unhappy with Scott, for the last 10 months since I booked this trip he kept saying you are going to be so happy with this full day charter, you are going to catch so much fish. So unhappy would not...
