Blown Away Hair Studio — Local services in Key West

Very sad to be posting this as I can honestly say I never have such horrific experiences as I did in this salon today. I was highly recommended by a local friend to this salon and I called and made an appointment no problem.

I came in and was greeted by Laura who coincidentally was the person doing my hair. I sit down and the normal - how’s your hair convo starts and I explain about my hair being thin and falling out but I would love to cut all the split ends and do a blow out maybe even a hair treatment if she could recommended one. Immediately her demeanor changed to very unpleasant. She went into “don’t tell me what your hair type is or how to do my job” mode and I am still very confused as to how the conversation got there. We were about to start and I kindly said “whatever you recommend thank you hun” she immediately told me not to call her hun and she’s not okay with my communication skills”

At this point I’m already uncomfortable and very confused as to how a first time customer (who was very excited about her appointment) is now sitting in a chair being talked down to like a child who’s done something wrong when I was just thanking her for her service. I got up in a rush - apologized for the miscommunication (still don’t understand where it came from) and left in a rush as I was not comfortable being in that establishment anymore. Even more so upsetting that there went at least two other employees working who witness this and no one kindly chimed in to help.

I left in such a rush I forgot my purse I was so upset and had to go back for it. Upon going back for my purse that’s when Laura decided was the right time to I guess “try” and make things right - I got a “you could tell this was forced” apology. Got my purse and left.

I made an appointment weeks in advance for an all over color. When I showed up for the appointment, the stylist thought I was there for a haircut. I said no, that I had made an appointment for an all over color. She said she didn't have time to do it. I said that I had made the appointment for an all over color weeks before. She looked at her calendar and said "oh! I have you down for a base color ". I told her no again and repeated that I needed an all over color. She said she couldn't do it that day. I told her I was not happy and her response was "well bye then". Super rude and unprofessional. She didn't even offer a reschedule or apologize so I just walked out. Now I'm stuck trying to find someplace that can get me in before we go out of town. They might be less expensive, but with service like that, you get what you pay for. What a...

I’ve come back to Key West after living away for years I grew up here, but after many years had no idea who to get high quality foils and a cut/blow dry. In typical Conch style I asked a class mate and she lmk Missy/Melissa White a former classmate of ours also relocated back was At Blown away salon. I was able to get in the following week she’s pretty booked I took that as a good sign.

The highlights are natural but defined, the tone is perfect and her cut was on point. I’ve been blessed twice on referrals in this town thankfully.
