Where do I start. I live for new and innovative Halloween events every year, so we were super excited to check this one out.
PROS!
*Actors and dancers were very committed, all great! Bravo to the cast.
*Set design, art direction, atmosphere was amazing! Venue was decorated perfectly. It looks like a lot of money was put into the show.
*The maze portion was pretty great, reminded me of Halloween horror nights! Very well done, and scary!
CONS! (and there are a lot)
*Handicap accessible isn't a thing here, which is really disappointing. If you need ADA accessible or have mobility limitations, they make it very clear you are NOT welcomed here. It should be called 'Stairs' the Halloween horror show. Website claims there is accessibility, but only for a certain portion. Not cool.
*Severe lack of diversity. Not a good look when the ONLY black performer in the cast was the 'zombie shoe shiner' who continuously yelled "shoe shine sir??! Shoe shine anyone???" Who thought this was a good idea?? No, really?
*Safety issues. Lots of steps, up, down, all around and blind spots that someone can easily trip over as there is not one person with a flashlight helping to guide you the right way. I guess you want someone to trip and fall?
*Storyline was disjointed. No idea what was happening. At one point it appeared to be set in the 1930's, then there were nuns and priest, then half naked dancers running from demons. Um....ok
*There was a hold in the middle of the "show" with no clear direction that there was going to be a hold or break and that there would be a second part of the show. Very strange. No one seemed to know what was going on.
*Inflated hallway portion, you know when you have to squeeze through inflated airbags? The same space that hundreds of people walk through every half hour? Omicron will probably make a 2023 return due to this terrible addition to the show. Maybe scabies too. Gross.
*Lots of employees breaking the 4th wall, you could hear what was going on in the kitchen, actually see what was going on backstage, behind the curtains. See regular dressed employees storming around, walking through the set etc etc
*Outside (of theater) lack of organization. No one knew which line to go to. Not enough employees outside. And the ones out there seemed confused as well. Also, if someone on staff is not friendly or isn't customer service oriented, please do not put them outside to check hundreds of people in. Bad idea.
*If you are prone to epilepsy, do not attend. There was no warning and there was INTENSE flashing at the end of the show. I couldn't tell if I was naturally glitching or if they were purposely trying to make us glitch.
Overall this show actually has a lot of potential with some reworking. Better training of the staff, wiser story choices and a producer attached who actually has years of experience doing haunted theatre type productions. And also to avoid issues, they should consider a better experience for those ADA accessible as well as smarter casting choices (black shoe shiner? Really? Wave your ignorance flag harder...
Read moreThe venue is stunning on its own but this production falls extremely short. The premise is entirely unclear. In the first room where I assume it is being explained you can not hear what the actor is saying at all. There is a fairly decent “scare maze” that follows (with a graveyard oddly on the mezzanine of the theater). The finale is incredibly short but the dancers give it their all. It would just have been nice to know what was happening. Not worth close to $70…not even close.
When half of the audience sits in silence after the main performance and inaudibly hear someone say “THATS IT!?” There’s a problem.
Before you buy go and watch people as they exit. There’s no energy. Nobody is pumped. People just kind of walk out the door and back onto Broadway confused as to what...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to experience Angel of Light and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. The cast was truly amazing, delivering performances that were both captivating and chilling. The attention to detail in the props and set design added a level of realism that immersed me completely.
But what truly sets "Angel of Light" apart are the scares. From heart-pounding moments to spine tingling surprises, the fear factor is dialed up to the max. This experience is not for the faint of heart, but if you're a fan of intense thrills and exceptional production quality, Angel of Light is a must see. It's a hauntingly unforgettable experience that will leave you...
