Your face is scanned by AI when entering the store to monitor your shopping and prevent shrinkage. So once you enter, you have to wait to be scanned and then security will let you in. Racist and rude employees have RUINED the Ross shopping experience for me. I've been shopping there for over 7 years and I noticed AFTER the PANDEMIC their staff has dwindled and is now EXTREMELY lackluster. I understand it may be a difficult location, being in Downtown, however Ross should hire individuals equipped to handle stressful situations properly. There is a young male gay latino manager who simply hates his job and takes his micro aggressions out on customers of color. It makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE that he is in ANY managerial position. Today I watched him throw a fit because he had to clean the stairs, apparently someone spilled something on them and the escalators were not working. This man was LIVID! He needs to keep his attitude at home, because it makes people uncomfortable. He then went around the front counter to take a call. The line was long, but since there weren't any WHITE people in the line he didn't find it necessary to say anything to the waiting colored. We were looking at him wondering if he was going to open a register. I was disgusted at the internalized hatred being displayed to be honest. When it was my turn, I had a question about an already reduced Holiday pet toy, which was missing an additional piece. I attempted to ask the cashier to ask the manager, but before I could even ask she stared to tell me NO. There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON for your cashiers to make ANYTHING personal. NO ONE goes to Ross looking to make friends with the employees or even talk to them. She proceeded to tell me what she knows and didn't listen to a word I said. Unnecessary, VERY immature and unprofessional. I told her to allow others to use their own voice and kindly go ask for me. The problem was I didn't know she was going to ask the upset guy on the phone. She returned ELATED to tell me he said NO as well. I felt like I was on an elementary playground, not an adult making a purchase. I even told her to stop making it personal to which she got defensive and facetious...TRAINING IS IMPERATIVE! I don't understand WHY Ross is hiring UNPROFESSIONALS who DON'T want to work. My ONLY POSITIVE experience has been the security guards. They are 100% more professional than the manager and staff. The black KING with some golden dreadlocs, is the BEST EMPLOYEE in there. He sticks out and I APPRECIATE him. He has little experience yet manages to be MORE professional than the manager! TRAIN AND DEVELOP HIM INTO A LEADERSHIP POSITION! HE is an ASSET, the others are LIABILITIES! I advised him to not allow the bad seeds to dim his EFFERVESCENCE! I took my time to write this because ROSS Dress for Less is RUINED for me because OF BAD EMPLOYEES! WHERE DID GOOD SERVICE GO...OBVIOUSLY to Burlington coat factory on the next block I believe! I even called to address this on the phone BEFORE writing this, but THEY DON'T CARE about a black person's review, my complexion doesn't stress them. No apologies, no accountability, no respect. SHAME SHAME SHAME ON ROSS DRESS FOR LESS IN DTLA! GO TRAIN YOUR EMPLOYEES TO TREAT AS THEY WANT TO BE...
Read moreI had the worst experience at this store. I’ve visited several times, but this one specific time they over charged me, I did not receive all my items, and they claimed i was lying. which turned into a two hour affair to get my money back. I was accused, and discriminated against because i am neurodiverse. I spoke with two managers who wouldn’t take me seriously, and caused me to have a break down in the front of the store. It took me having to personally look at the security footage MYSELF, that the manager recorded on her phone, before they finally said “oh yeah, I see now, I knew we would get to the bottom of this” and gave my money back. AND NOT EVEN ALL OF IT. Three people came in and stole multiple items and security let them walk right past while I was standing, & crying. Yet I have proof, pictures of all my items, the receipt, and it takes two hours, a mental break down, a manager to verbally abusing me, and accusing me of lying, all for $23 that your store tried to steal from me. The manager even went out of the way to go after the cashier that accidentally over charged me?? This is the worst store, and pray next time you get your act together because it’s a lawsuit...
Read moreBeautiful store. I'm visiting Los Angeles for 3 days now and I've been taking pictures of all the incredible architecture from the late 1800's and early 1900's. I stumbled upon a Ross Department store on Broadway. I entered the store, asked to be directed to the men's clothing and the nice sales lady said it was downstairs. I made my way down the stairs and it suddenly occurred to me that this Store was the former Woolworth's built in 1920 and the place of my very first employment in 1979( we moved there for three years with parent in the late 1970's) I absolutely could not believe it! You have no idea the amount of nostalgia that hit me right there and then. I took pictures of those beautiful stairs I use to trek down to report to work after high school. I also took pictures of the built in mirrors against a wooden art deco wall. Incredible. Back then, Broadway was quite different; street and curb sanitation was a big priority and there were not the massive crowds I noticed today. I'm so glad that building is still there. Much has happened since then. Just think- those stairs are 101 years old and have not been renovated or restored. They are untouched since then....
